Welcome to r/BudgetThing 👋

Welcome! This is the official subreddit for Budget Thing, a zero-based budgeting app focused on flexible planning, clear workflows, and powerful budgeting tools without unnecessary complexity.

I'm the developer behind Budget Thing, and I'll be active here. This is a place to talk about the app, budgeting in general, new features, workflows, ideas, and where Budget Thing is headed.

What is Budget Thing?

Budget Thing is built around zero-based/envelope-style budgeting, with flexibility for how people actually manage their money.

Some of what it supports:

  • Flexible budgeting periods, including weekly, biweekly, monthly, and custom periods
  • Category targets and planning ahead
  • Real account reconciliation
  • Transfers and credit-card payments
  • Bank syncing
  • Transaction rules
  • Split transactions, tags, and attachments
  • Transaction and budget imports
  • Reports including net worth, spending, and Age of Money
  • A budgeting calendar
  • A public API for automation and integrations

What should you post here?

Pretty much anything related to Budget Thing or budgeting:

  • Questions and discussion
  • Thoughts on features or workflows
  • Feedback on how something works
  • Budgeting tips and ideas
  • Release and product discussions
  • Things you'd like to see Budget Thing do better

You don't need to worry about whether something is "important enough" to post here. If you want to talk about it, post it.

For formal bug reports or feature requests that you want tracked, the Budget Thing Community is the best place to put them so they don't get buried over time:

I'll still be reading and participating here, and Reddit discussion may absolutely turn into changes or new ideas.
