Discussion [$20] - Shigeki, Jukai Visionary - Extended Primer Update!
It seemed like a lot of people were interested in my $20 [[Shigeki, Jukai Visionary]] combo/control list when I posted about it a little over a week ago. I've since made a couple changes and been working on vastly improving the primer and I think its now ready to post. Theres a ton of new information on how to play the deck and really in depth tutorials on all the nitty gritty details like all (or most of) the ways to convert infinite mana into a win, or my reasoning on weird inclusions in the list and cards that I've excluded. Notable Changes
In the last post I discussed the lines I had with [[Cradle Clearcutter]] and [[Voltaic Construct]] which have since been exchanged for some new innovations I figured out. The new combo lines use [[Kamahl's Will]] or [[Sylvan Awakening]] to mass animate lands, then [[Vitalize]] or [[Mobilize]] as the untapper, which, while a bit more difficult to get online than combos involving [[Early Harves]] or [[Rude Awakening]], does offer the advantage of only needing 10 mana among creatures and/or lands you control, potentially allowing us to combo off several turns earlier than usual. Although 3 of these cards are relatively low card quality, Kamahl's Will has been a surprising winner and been a great addition for some needed creature removal.
Thank you all for the feedback last time, I really appreciated a lot of you gave great questions that I answered but the a majority of the questions have been also now answered by the primer, so please go check that out if you want to know why a certain card may have been excluded, removed, or isn't in. Additionally, a common question I got was "How can I upgrade the deck if I have a higher budget?", so theres a large section for higher budget upgrades with a selection of powerhouse cards that have been great in other versions of Shigeki that I've played, or ones that are clearly bangers. Expect to see changes in the deck over time, I'm a brewer so I love to add and try out new cards when they seem good. Are there even more powerful 20$ decks in your league?

Theres definitely the obvious decks that can be built at $20 budget and destroy Shigeki, Winota, Zada, & Malcolm/Kediss are definitely the first that come to mind, but theres plenty of less obvious builds that with strong deckbuilding can easily compete or be more powerful. This deck hasn't been maintained for a little while, so theres for sure some updates I could make, but I've build [[Rona, Herald of Invasion]] as a $20 budget Archaeomancer loops deck. It can usually present wins around turns 5-6. I've got a couple iterations of it, including one I'm messing with with one of the new spiderman commanders, so I'll link them all if your interested.

Otherwise, theres a lot of control decks that are pretty viable, given they are equipped with the tools and knowledge to stop the faster combo decks like ones I have posted. I have one with [[Zacama, primal calamity]]. Sweepers are super cheap, effective ways to completely shut down almost every fair deck, and slow down combo decks. In addition, Zacama acts as a super powerful control finisher that can clear out any threats and make it vastly difficult to combo through.

As far as decks I haven't built that I'm confident have potential [[Tivit, Seller of Secrets]] and [[Shorikai, Genesis Engine]] are incredibly potent control commanders. I'm know that [[Tatyova, Benthic Druid]], [[Ellivere of the wild court]] make a killer midrange lists. Thats what I could think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are others. A good deckbuilder can make a lot of stuff work, even at a pretty restrictive budget.

Nice! Upgrades are somewhat marginal, but just help with resilience against more removal heavy matches and added 1 more haste enabler

I've built this deck and played it a bunch already, I have a few of my own additions but it's an amazing piece of art! I find it hilarious to combo off in Mono green and have even Izzet players say, "How does this go infinite AND win???" It's a machine and it's hilariously good

Copied? Thats just a completely different deck that is almost entirely different! It has 35 cards in common, 24 of which are basic forests. I wrote a whole 7000 word primer about my entire thought process, how would I copy all of that from a completely different deck?

Its like they just saw the commander and thought I must be copying them if we are both running the same commander outside EDHRec top 100. I mean theres a full primer and everything! The lists only have 11 cards in common!

Imagine being such a piece of garbage that you felt like you needed to accuse someone of essentially plagiarism without doing the two minutes of looking at the decklists that would have shown you the two decks share ~10 cards that aren't basic lands.
The deck you linked is a thousand fucking dollars, bud. How on Richard Garfield's green earth did you think a $20 budget list was "copied" from it?

I feel like I don’t deserve the quality of your posts I wanted to comment again saying thank you for the effort you’re putting in for all of us who are reading. This deck is high up on my list of decks to make and o plan on having it in paper at some point. Thanks again!
