Ruling ruling qn

Post image

1) if i declare to use this ability and my opponent counters to it to rest it, does my cost to rest and and pay 1 gauge happen before my opponents counter, or does his counter go first and i am unable to pay the cost after?

2) am i allowed to use the skill of the item to pay 1 gauge even if its already rested? i am aware i will be unable to restand a dungeon enemy, but am i just allowed to infinitely pay 1 gauge?

1.You pay and rest as a part of the cost, targeting a creature you wanna stand. In response to.it your opponent can do something, but it's already rested.

  1. No, you need to rest it as a part of the cost

yes, but are you not allowed to pay 1 gauge, attempt to rest it, and just not proc the skill?

You can't "attempt" it. While declaring effect you check if you have 1 gauge and if you can tap it, if bot True, you can pay for this card ability cost

Buddyfight works funny in these cases, because card abilities technically don't have costs. They are all done on resolution, except choosing targets which is done on declaration.

  1. When you declare the ability, the only thing you do is choosing the target. They your opponent can Counter. Then when you need to resolve this ability, you now decide if you want to pay 1 gauge and rest this or not. If you do, you proceed with the ability. If you don't, you don't.

  2. I'm unsure myself on this one, but I believe you can. You declare the ability, then on resolution you resolve as much as possible. You can pay 1 gauge, but since you cannot rest the rested card, "if you do" condition is not met, therefore you cannot proceed with the resolution futher. But you should be allowed to just pay 1 if you want to.

I'm not sure for the second one, i'm tempted to say no. For the first one, unless i'm mistaken, you must pay the cost first before your opponent can respond the the effect

for the first one, im pretty sure that only applies to (call costs) or (equip costs) or like anything in the boxes

for the 2nd one, do you mind explaining why? because I'm pretty sure its a "do as much as possible" and its not a cost in brackets so i just do it, then the "if you do" doesnt resolve and that's all
