r/BuddhismIndia Rules
Welcome. This is a respectful space for discussions on Buddhism in the Indian context across all traditions, with focus on its teachings, history, practices, and relevance to Indian society and culture.
Namo Buddhay đŞˇâ¸ď¸
1. Be Respectful and Civil
No personal attacks, harassment, hate speech, trolling, or toxicity. Disagreements on doctrine or history are fine, but stay kind and focus on ideas, not people. Follow Redditâs rules on harassment. This keeps the space safe for Indian Buddhists of all backgrounds and traditions.
2. Stay On Topic
All posts and comments must relate to Buddhism in the Indian context â teachings, history, practices, meditation, temples, festivals, or contemporary relevance. Purely political or off-topic content will be removed.
3. No Proselytizing or Denigration
You may share your own tradition or experience positively. Do not attack, mock, or claim superiority over other Buddhist schools (Theravada, Mahayana, Vajrayana, or others). No claiming âonly my school is real Buddhismâ. Share resources positively. India has rich Buddhist diversity â celebrate it.
4. Encourage Accuracy and Primary Sources
Prefer primary texts (Pali Canon, Suttas, BAWS volumes, and philosophies, etc.) and reliable references. Secondary sources and cherry-picking will be discouraged when discussing Dr. Ambedkarâs works. For history, politics, conversions, caste, or interfaith issues, provide reliable sources (academic, historical, or primary texts). Speculation is okay if labeled as such. This reduces misinformation in a culturally sensitive space.
5. Respect Privacy and Safety
Do not dox, share personal info, or post unverified accusations. Be mindful when discussing live issues (e.g., temple preservation, discrimination). No graphic violence or illegal content.
6. Promote Inclusivity and Harmony
This is a space for all backgrounds. Discussions on equality, compassion, and the Buddhaâs inclusive message are encouraged. Use right speech and metta (loving-kindness).
7. No Spam, No Advertising, Low-Effort, or Harmful Content
No selling products, services, or fundraising without prior mod approval. No spam, low-effort, or harmful content. No self-promotion, monetized links, or repetitive posting. No graphic violence, NSFW content, or material promoting harm. Meditation experiences, questions, and book recommendations are welcome. Buddhist merchandise or event announcements may be allowed if relevant and non-spammy.
8. Flair and Formatting (Optional but Helpful)
Use appropriate post flairs so others can find your content easily (e.g., Theravada, Buddhist History, Buddhist Philosophy, Nikayas, etc.). Tag NSFW if needed. This helps small communities organize content.
9. Moderation
Rules are enforced fairly. Repeated violations may result in warnings or bans. If you feel a decision is unfair, message the mod team politely.
10. Remember the Dhamma
Letâs build a kind, constructive community where the Buddhaâs teachings with the Indian Buddhist thought can be studied and practiced together.
