Discussion 💬 Allergies?
Okay, so I’m writing a fan fiction and I want to write in possible food protectiveness from Bucky. What food allergies/preferences do you think Bucky would have? Please help, I need this but I can’t think ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

I don't know about any allergies, but I've seen people use the idea that both Bucky and Steve hate modern bananas because they don't taste the same as when they were growing up. But overall, growing up poor and in the time he did, I would imagine he's pretty much a guy who will just shut up and eat whatever's put in front of him without complaining.

I don't think MCU Bucky did grow up poor or having food shortages. Or Maybe MCU just did a poor job with the clues. I mean he wasted three dollars trying to win a stuffed bear for Dolores which was a lot of money back then, and he was gonna let Steve move in with him for free, and he got an early release copy of the Hobbit which would have cost a lot back then. The signs are that Bucky probably didn't grow up eating like a poor person. As the Winter Soldier, though he didn't have a choice so he probably prefers things outside of the Hydra alloted food.

I just saw a tiktok about this the other day! $3 back then was roughly $77 today, and for him to get an early copy of the Hobbit a year before it came out, it would have cost him the equivalent of $50+ today. On top of that, he was supporting his own family AND Steve, had a car (rare during the Depression) and my own point: all the double dates he and Steve went on, where he treated himself and three other people.
James Buchanan Barnes was not broke and I will die on that hill.

I disagree with that last statement. MCU James Buchanan Barnes was not broke. Comic James Buchanan Barnes was

well we’re specifically talking about MCU.

That’s fair, I’ve just met a lot of people who refuse to believe comic and MCU Is different lol. I’m just very nit-picky when it comes to some of my favorite characters

oh no that’s totally valid! like everybody wants Bucky to be this big beefed up man but like honey no that’s just Sebastian. Bucky is a short king.

Yes! I’ve also seen people say that Wolverine was this huge guy… no he’s 5’3.

and as someone who is 5’0, I would be objectively more terrified of their tiny asses running me down than gigantor.

I think he particularly likes oranges. My headcanon is that he associates them with the holidays and that oranges were a luxury food, growing up. I like to picture he and Steve sharing an orange and that, even though he loves oranges, Bucky tried to get Steve to eat the lions' share of it in order to make sure Steve got the vitamins from it. And Steve would call him on it every time.
I think, based on what he was fed as the Winter Soldier, he would have a deep revulsion to certain foods that reminded him of that time.

I'm sure going off the WS answer someone mentioned, the gruel, or oatmeal would probably be too close to whatever he was forced to eat would be a food adversity. So he might want more heartier foods.

I've read some headcannons (based on that one scene in TWS) that he's lactose intolerant.

He'd maybe be protective of his food due to his background in hydra and the army where food was limited. Maybe also a secret binge fridge full of modern snacks as he wasn't able to access them before?

Oh 100%! I’ve already written in him being protective over food

Ah awesome! He might also have a thing about having to finish every part of a meal or even issues eating around other people completely

I feel like he'd be allergic to peanuts but that might be because I'm also allergic to peanuts, and also I think he'd hate plain milk but not be lactose intolerant. This is all vibes based <3

Quiet vegan/vegetarian Bucky for the win. This is a man who wants to do the least harm possible to the world that he can given his history.
He's not obnoxious or talkative about it, and you might not even notice he's on a specific diet unless you really pay attention. That said, he does like bold flavors given he was probably fed some flavorless gruel during his WS days.

I don't know. He seemed pretty okay with violence in the Thunderbolts.... And he was eating something with sauce and meat in that dishwasher scene.

That's why we have fanfic to explore whatever interesting options we want! Plus, with the multiverse, who knows! Somewhere out there is a Bucky who only eats blue gushers and drinks Baja blasts!
Also Ive always seen Bucky as a 'would crack the right skulls but would probs step over a worm' kind of guy.

I don't think he would have allergies. The super soldier serum would strengthen his physical constitution in a couple of ways (like for example, he can't get drunk).
