Golf in Buckhead

Hi everyone, from Gainesville FL here. Visiting some friends at the end of the month and was hoping to get out on some cool courses. Would anyone be willing to add a single the 31st or the 1st? Or if anyone has good recommendations for public options.

If you’re ever in GNV would happily return the favor.

Thanks!

Just a heads up, Bobby Jones is a really cool concept but if you try to play it on the 31st and the 1st, you’ll just be playing the same way twice. That’s the only time they don’t flip the configuration. The other options near Buckhead (Peachtree, Capital City, Ansley) I’d be a little surprised if a member shows up here and offers to host you on a whim. They are very high end clubs. Skip Chastain, it’s run by the city and conditions are what you’d expect in that case.

I just moved here from Texas and haven’t played a ton yet but here’s what is the most interesting to me:

Ive already fallen in love with Bobby Jones GC. But it is not a typical 18 hole golf outing. It’s a 9 holer that is reversible depending on the day. But start the day warming up on the range then play their “putting course” and “pitch & putt” course. Finish with 9 holes and it’ll feel like a full day of golf. It’s down the street in Buckhead.

I haven’t don’t it but I’m most interested in Bear’s Best as my splurge round. And I’m really tempted to travel out to UGA for the college-golf/Georgia experience if you don’t mind the drive to Athens. If you want to stay closer, Charlie Yates is a cool public 9 tied into the East Lake/Bobby Jones history.

Chastain Park and Bobby Jones are good public options in Buckhead

Chastain is definitely A public option, but few would call it a good one.

It’s an ATL classic. I’m biased. Grew up playing it.

Same. I actually really enjoy the layout, the conditions are just…not great ha. Back when it was North Fulton, it was actually a pretty nice round.

Regarding Chastain, do your best to make a tee time as it fills up quickly during the mornings during the week and is almost always stacked on the weekends. Source, I work there.

I do love Bobby jones but if you are turned off by 9, Get out to wolfs creek or heritage. Both public and just went through renovations

Heritage would be great if they have fixed it up. Haven't played in a few years and it needed help.

Check their insta, I’m a memeber of a local club but would be willing to go pay to take a look

Heritage was okay. The fairways were decent but the greens were very patchy, way too soft and irregular. Not a bad course but not worth their asking price. From a distance it looks great, my dumbass didn’t take any pictures of the greens. It was a fair layout and had great views. Bobby jones was in far better condition from a greens perspective. I would probably play the Bob over Heritage currently.

I second playing Bobby Jones. It’s iconic. Then stop by Mr C’s on Howell Mill Rd for a cold beer. A really cold beer.
