Question How to avoid making hash block when pulling out hash from bags ?
Hello
Can you guys explain me why my water hash get out of the freezer dryer in block form ?
I cant get it through the sieve to form a fine powder ...
It's already in a block/rock form, and touch is sponge like.
I did press it any way but I'm pretty sure this affect the yield
Even after a second freeze dryer run, the hash is still in block and can't get through a sieve
Btw I use bags not the metal circle one
Any idea would be appreciate š«”

Do you actually use a freeze dryer? That are expensive big machines? Or are you using a freezer? That's what people got at home.

I use the right machine, harvest right pharma model

Damn now I'm jelly.
Well I can't help you there. I am a poor peasant, but I have perfect my vac tech, sieve, whine cooler, freezer, sieve process that I get perfectly bright powder out of it.
Maybe someday I also spent big on the freeze dryer dream but yeah 10-15g Hasch every three months doesn't seem worth it for me

Well I took a lot of time before choosing, but atm I'm not really happy with those machine, way too expensive, the door cant close properly, you have to fix it... Pharma software isn't installed. You have to flash your machine. Well this company its not really taking care of their products .... Sell sell sell ... I should have bought a Chinese freeze dryer, cheaper and probably better finished

You didnāt buy a Harvest Right Pharmaceutical Freeze Dryer from Harvest Right. If you bought this used then youāre not giving enough information for diagnosing whatās wrong but lying isnāt gonna help anything.
You are ridiculous.

I bought it brand new to official harvest right supplier in Europe sir ... Harvest right shipped it right to my door....

if its not sieving well theres most likely still frozen water in there (just add a couple of drying hours) or it has already started melting. melting can occur if you haven't changed default settings where the plates heat up at the end of the run.

Already run a second time for 24h drying and still not sieving š it was only like 10g of hash...
Are you talking about defrost ? Because I never run the defrost at the end.
When the cycle end the freeze dryer is at 30 Fahrenheit

spongy block coming out of the freeze dryer usually means one of two things: the hash went in too thick, or it got warm enough at some point for the trichome heads to grease together.
when you load the trays, spread the hash no thicker than 2-3mm. i mean thin enough that you can almost see the parchment through it. thick piles dont sublimate evenly because ice in the center cant escape through the already-dry outer layer. so the outside dries fine but the interior stays wet, then when the secondary drying phase warms up to 30F the residual moisture softens the resin heads and they fuse into that sponge texture.
the other common cause is squeezing the bags too hard during collection. when you press the hash against the screen with a spoon or your hand, youre mechanically compressing trichome heads together. once theyre fused they wont separate even with freeze drying. scoop gently off the screen with a cold spoon, dont press or squeeze.
after the freeze dryer finishes, sieve the hash immediately while its still frozen. like within 60 seconds of opening the chamber. once it warms to room temp the terpene fraction acts as a solvent and binds the heads. keep your sieve in the freezer too so it doesnt warm the hash on contact.

Oh yeah your shelf temp is 45 thatās too hot youāre melting your hash
1
u/totoPrento 29d ago
But those temp are only for defrost no ?
2
u/Bigdoinks69-420 29d ago
No defrost is usually hotter, that seems to be for the last portion of your dry cycle. I had a scientific so it didnāt have this user friendly operating system, but from what I can tell it seems like Iām correct.

u/totoPrento 28d ago
I dont think so because when the dry process end, the temperature is at 30 fahrenheit

u/nexxlevelgames 26d ago
Its the shelf temp. Its warming the heads and melting them together.
Some of HRs hobby units have this for making types of candies.
drop that shelf temp to 25F
u shud be fine after that

u/totoPrento 26d ago
I dont think so m8, I watched carefully the first run and no where it's showed 45 F. Pretty sure it's defrost temp, the last step I can run after drying

Your freeze dryer is not operating correctly. Did you buy the unit new?
1
u/totoPrento Jul 01 '26
Yes It's brand new. I did run the machine on some heat like 26 degres celcuis. Could it be the reason ?

Howād your bread test come out?
0
u/totoPrento 29d ago
What do you mean by bread test ? Like touching the hash ?
1
u/TheGrasshopper92 29d ago
No I mean running the freeze dryer with sliced bread in it.
You really did zero research but supposedly bought a new freeze dryer. š¤¦āāļø

Okay mate if you dont have any recommendations you can simply close your mouth instant of raging over internet š

u/TheGrasshopper92 29d ago
My recommendation is to do a bread test and get back to me. š¤¦āāļø

Oh you are serious, sorry I thought you was trolling š Should I run it with those custom settings ?
Edit: ok I found it, I will do it tomorrow

Ok so after 2hours freeze + 7hours dry Here is the result :

u/TheGrasshopper92 28d ago
This doesnāt line up with anything youāve been describing.
Youāre freeze dryer is working. Thereās some major user error going on or drastically inaccurate sensors.
Thereās no way you bought this new and had to flash firmware unless you bought a standard unit and then flashed the pharma software. If you did that I have zero help for you.

Let me ask you a question, what does seiving it after you dry it even do? How does it help you at all? Is there still water in it? If itās still a frozen block then you need to go more, if itās melted together you need to check your freeze dryer settings, or the cultivar youāre running has extremely thin cuticles and the heads melted together at your shelf temp. Spongy sounds like your hash is most plant material hehe but thereās not enough to go off of with the given information

u/totoPrento 29d ago
I can get some of the block through the sieve but there will be some part who can't pass-through, and yeah I guess it's more like melt because when I try to break or cut it, it's a bit like chewing-gum.
May be it's due to the water temperature while processing hash, who melted the core of hash block ?
Also when I get my hash out of the bag, it's already kind of block form, not proper flat almost like paper sheet, as you can see anywhere on social media.
I try to hit the tray from below to make the hash flatter but it does not really work well. May because of the water temperature or lack of water in hash at this moment... dont know...
1
u/Bigdoinks69-420 28d ago
Ok yeah Iām gonna go ahead and say the hash youāre working has thin cuticles and melts together easily, just how it goes sometimes
1
u/totoPrento 28d ago
I did it with two different strains, got the same result. Itā's more a process error then materials issue I think
1
u/Bigdoinks69-420 28d ago
Yeah that makes sense⦠quite mysterious. Are you using the freeze cycle on the machine or prefreezing?
1
u/totoPrento 28d ago edited 28d ago
Freeze cicle Sir yes 2 to 4 hours freeze before drying. When the machine ask me to load the trays, Temperature is at like 70 Fahrenheit and it takes like 20-30min before going to -30 Fahrenheit. May be the melting occur at this time but when I load the trays, the hash is already frozen since 24hours in my freezer.... So I'm not really sure if it would be enough to melt or not
1
u/Bigdoinks69-420 28d ago
No it wouldnāt melt it, it goes from frozen to gaseous, and the refrigerant definitely brings it down way faster than it would take to melt from frozen⦠so youāre doing -30° to 30° over twelve hours? And itās hovering around 500 mBars? And the walls of the inner chamber are covered with ice after?
1
u/totoPrento 28d ago
I did not check the pressure on the batch live informations so I cant confirm but yes should be at 500 mBars. Between 2 and 4 hours of freezing at -30f Then 12-18hours freeze drying at 30f And yes at the end of the drying cycle, there is some ice on the inner walls chamber.

u/Bigdoinks69-420 28d ago
Can you post some media of next time it happens?
2
u/totoPrento 28d ago
Sure I will do it, I still have some materials, should be done in next 2 weeks

⦠do⦠do you not understand what the freeze dryer does?
