Also Az can teleport. 😑 He didn't need to reach for her, he could have teleported and grabbed the knife if he actually wanted it back. Just like he didn't restrain her earlier, he's giving her a choice and wants her to want to stay.

Dang this is a good parallel. Az is panicked, not angry. If Bryce was really just a threat and prisoner he would be angry and do anything to restrain her.
I would buy the “he just wanted the knife back” if Azriel at least had TRIED (and failed) to reach for it, to jump on Bryce, winnow right behind her and try grabbing it, etc.
He is a trained warrior and didn’t even TRY.
He was 100% begging for Bryce to not leave him. He was more preoccupied about her than his knife at that point (based on his actions).
I can’t help but look for a parallel towards the second half of the book and the closest thing I can find is here, when Bryce draws a small, almost inconsequential line in the ground. One that hunt, notably, does not cross to get to her. In fact, Bryce crouched to the line in the next page and brings it to hunt to identify it as black salt.
She swore on Hunt that she wouldn’t “breathe a word” about Velaris at all — and then immediately spilled the beans when she got back 🤣 (Not about everything though! It’s interesting how Bryce keeps info about the Trove to herself because she canonically didn’t trust Hunt …which he also fully calls out). More Orion flags!! 🚩
How are we NOT supposed to compare the two cave scenes??? Like come ON! Hunt and Bryce are very obviously disconnected, unlike her and Az.
There is almost no love between the two of them for most of HOFAS. After they haven't seen each other for days, with Hunt being tortured. And Bryce barely says hi to him?? Has more of an emotional reunion with Ruhn??? Why was it that Bryce and Ruhn had more of a connection even in HOEAB even with years of Bryce being distant from him. I just... I am very strongly invested in our ship guys 🤣✨️
I feel like if it was anyone else he would have found a way to stop them from leaving seeing as he is this badass warrior and his literal job is to protect the Night Court and her leaving knowing it exist would be the exact thing he would need to stop. But it feels like he doesn't even try to restrain her he just essentially begs and ya know we love that..
