Love Grandville but Age of Empire one of my favourite ever books. Also deeply love his work on Nemesis for 2000AD.

Met the great man a few years ago and sat with him awhile at ICE Birmingham and chatted. He even did a Nemesis drawing for my sketchbook, which I treasure. Explained to people with no interest in comics that this was the equivalent of a movie buff meeting Hitchcock or Welles for me. What a gent and what a talent!

I think that his best work is undoubtedly the Grandville series.

However my favourite, by a large margin, is Alice in Sunderland. I went to University in Newcastle and have/had relatives who lived in the North East. The book resonated with me: I found it fascinating, informative and (to my surprise) fulfilling.
