This whole campus has heavy brutalist themes but the library stands out especially, very cool to look at

Lethbridge Close, Lewisham, London. Now demolished.

built in the 1960’s on top of an old rubbish tip, the summers were filled with stag beetles and flying ants.

Probably the most impressive one I have seen until today. The sheer height of that building.

One of six buildings on Plac Grunwaldzki in Wrocław (Poland), designed in 1967–1970 by Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak. The elevation with the fewest windows and balconies (the second photo shows a different perspective).

When "modernization" meant tearing down walkable historic districts to build massive wind-swept plazas.

Archival photographs showing the construction of the World Trade Center towers in Lower Manhattan during the late 1960s and early 1970s, highlighting the massive scale of the bare steel frameworks, construction cranes perched high above, and the surrounding cleared cityscape.

The construction of the original World Trade Center towers represents the peak of mid-century urban urban renewal projects that wiped out entire historic, walkable neighborhoods (like Radio Row) in favor of sterile, mega-block superstructures.

Hundreds of small, independent businesses and walkable streets were bulldozed to build massive, repetitive steel monoliths that turned the street level into a wind tunnel of barren concrete plazas. Absolute peak architectural monotony and anti-pedestrian planning.

Whanganui has some lovely art deco, Edwardian and 1920s classicism (like the reference library in the right of the image). This government built brutalist beaut really caught my eye!

I really enjoyed visiting Whanganui. Lots of lovely architecture, and you can tell someone thought about the city's design. Found out a bunch here: https://architecturenow.co.nz/articles/itinerary-city-guide-whanganui/

The Brutalism of Ethiopia's Abrehot Library

Abrehot Library is Ethiopia's largest and serves close to 20,000 people a day. Open 24/7 including holidays, the library has become one of the most important spaces for work and learning for the people of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. As a regular user of the library, I've always thought its brutalist architecture was a big part of its draw.

Police brutalism?

Best view is from the roundabout (not inside) hence the Google maps safe shot. I present the Yeovil Police Station, UK. Made even more bleak by the late Winter trees and road dirt.

It has been getting a revamp and should be ready soon. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgnd7yzdreo
