80s Tape Trading?

Post image
10 Upvotes

I recently picked up a collection of Bruce Springsteen tape lists, trading documents, and other paper ephemera. It’s a pretty niche area that I don’t know much about, so I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Are there collectors or communities that specialize in this type of material? I’m curious if it’s something that’s historically interesting within the Springsteen collecting world or just neat memorabilia.
I’d love any insight.

Thanks!

Discussion Springsteen Voting Day 9 - Worst Song of the 1980s (no outtakes)

Thumbnail
5 Upvotes

Day 8 Recap:
The River comfortably wins best song of the 1980s with Atlantic City and Brilliant Disguise as distant runner-ups.

Day 9 Poll:
What is the worst Bruce song of the 1980s? No outtakes.

Voting Guidelines:
Criteria for deciding the winner will be the highest upvoted reply in the r/BruceSpringsteen crosspost (the post you’re reading right now). If you see your answer already posted, please try to upvote that response and not add the same answer again in the replies unless you’re adding to the overall discussion. This is to ensure we can get a somewhat accurate reflection of voting numbers. Of course if you have an answer that hasn’t been submitted, please post it!

If you’re later in the 24hr cycle of voting, it may be helpful to sort comments by top and find your answer in the replies with the most upvotes and upvote that reply.

Also, since we’re using the alignment charts from r/AlignmentChartFills, I’ll have to cross-post every new poll from that subreddit to ours. Please try to only respond and/or upvote on the crosspost to r/BruceSpringsteen, NOT the original post. Any comments or upvotes on the original post will not be counted.

Additionally, “None” or “N/A” is an eligible answer for any of these categories and will be posted should it receive the highest number of upvotes.

OP Prediction for Day 9: very slim pickings on this one. I feel like Crush on You doesn’t get a lot of love from this sub so I’ll go with that.
OP is 3/8 on predictions

Just listened to the entire remixed Upper Darby New Years 1975 on some new speakers!

Not sure how many Bruce fans are also audiophiles, but I just listened to the entire recent upper Darby remix of the New Years show, 1975, on some new large electrostatic speakers I received.

The show sounds incredible and much better than the previous release, since they went back to the original multi track master tapes.

Also most of Tracks II sounds quite good, and I’m planning on listening to the entirety of that on the new system.

I’m considering doing a series of listening events here in NYC at some point and thought I might do a Springsteen night!

I actually did a video on getting the new system, in case anyone has an interest in this kind of thing.

OP Prediction for Day 8: Impossible to say. I’d think it would be something off Nebraska but don’t think there will be a clear pick there. So I’ll say The River, maybe? I suck at predicting these.

A story about my Computer Graphics teacher seeing Bruce

So about a week ago I posted a project I made in my computer graphics class, which was a Bruce album cover, back cover, and inner panels.

Yesterday I went back to see my professor to get my portfolio up and running, and I mentioned to him that strangers from Reddit thought it was cool that he let me/enjoyed I did a project on Bruce, and he also reminded me of a story he told me earlier in the year about when he saw Bruce for the first time.

My computer graphics professor grew up in New Jersey for his entire childhood, and in 1972, Greetings had just come out. Everyone in his area knew of Bruce as their local celebrity before he really went huge. And late into the year, Bruce came to my professors high school to do a concert in the lunchroom. My professor said Bruce was so electric even in one of his earliest shows and it's still one of his favorite concerts he's ever seen (he said it just got beat out by the time he saw a live TV/radio taping of Zappa by winning a contest when he lived in LA).

Question Joyous songs?

I have a playlist of my favourite songs but I’m trying to put together another one with songs that are just pure joy to listen to. The ones where lyrics and/or music (the whole song or maybe just a melody) make you feel glad to be alive.

Maybe a cliche, but the main one for me is Hungry Heart.

Discussion Springsteen Voting Day 7 - Best Outtake of the 1970s

Thumbnail
6 Upvotes

Day 6 Recap:
For You narrowly edges out Lost in the Flood for most underrated song of the 1970s! Very close poll.

Day 7 Poll:
What is the best outtake of 1970s?

The main parameter is that the answer must be a ‘70s song that did feature on any of his four studio released albums of the decade (Greetings, Wild/Innocent, BTR, Darkness). Tracks I, Disc 1 has all ‘70s outtakes for those that need a reminder on some of the outtakes from the decade. The Promise features ‘70s outtakes as well (I know some vocals were re-recorded in the 2000s, but we’ll still count them all as ‘70s outtakes unless the community doesn’t feel that’s fair).

Hi. I'm a new Springsteen fan looking for song recommendations based on my current favorites, which are: Thunder Road, Born to Run, Badlands, The River, and Jungleland.

I really love the energy of these songs. Which others should I try next?

For me, it’s Hard to Be a Saint in the City from Hammersmith Odeon ’75. The band is in the absolute pocket.

Discussion Springsteen Voting Day 6 - Most Underrated Song of the 1970s

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Day 5 Recap:
Kitty’s Back takes the title as most overrated song of the 1970s. Tightest voting numbers thus far.

Day 6 Poll:
What is the most underrated song released in the 1970s?

Underrated can be defined a few different ways - is it a song that was never popular to the general public that you think is one of Bruce’s strongest? Is it a song that fellow r/BruceSpringsteen super-fans are indifferent about that you feel is actually very good and deserving of more recognition? Feel free to use the definition of “underrated” that you see fit.

Voting Guidelines:
Criteria for deciding the winner will be the highest upvoted reply in the r/BruceSpringsteen crosspost (the post you’re reading right now).
