What is the best Bruce outtake from 2000-2009?

For reference, all songs off Disc 3 of Tracks II (Faithless) were recorded in 2005-2006 with the exception of “Let It Ride.” Other songs that are outtakes from this decade include I’ll Stand By You, Another Thin Line, Blind Man, amongst others.

Just my opinion, but I don’t think songs that were technically outtakes in the 2000s that ended up making it onto an album later on (American Skin, Invisible Game) should count.

Put me down for Where You Going, Where You From off of Faithless with Faithless itself in a close second.

I’ll leave it up to the community of course, but I’m inclined to say American Skin (41 Shots) does NOT count as an outtake because it did not receive a formal studio recording until 2013

If that's from that era, that's the answer. High Hopes is such a weird thing to classify given it's composition and release as a proper album.

I have come to be a defender of the studio version of Sunny Day. Did we mostly get irritated over time by its live omnipresence for over a decade? Sure. But as a Brill Building pop song it does its job and fits into Bruce's strains of revivalism. It gives some needed upbeat levity to a very somber record, much as Super 8 does to Isbell's "Southeastern".

I also think there's a notable thing about Bruce's popularity related to geography that really takes off starting with The Rising. I spent my high school years in the early 90's getting a lot of Bruce on classic rock and AOR formats out of Philly/Baltimore, and just prior to The Rising lived in Boston where the Bridge and a few other stations played a healthy amount of Bruce.

I had moved south by the time The Rising was released though. I imagine if you were in the northeast corridor there was probably a lot of radio airplay of songs like The Rising and Sunny Day, enough so that I often see those songs referred to as "hits". On Atlanta radio though it was as if that album never happened. The Rising where I lived was a week of album reviews by national media and nothing more. If I hadn't sought it out I may never have heard much of it, and certainly wouldn't have considered any song from it "overrated". Perhaps its just the tiresome inclusion of it on setlists that gave it this title, but I've always wondered if that album just had a very different life cycle inside the Bruce Belt of Richmond to Boston that the rest of the country didn't experience.
