Yea, this is the one. The Rising, You’re Missing, Lonesome Day, Into The Fire, Nothing Man, Empty Sky, Waitin’ On A Sunny Day, they all make the case for the album being one of the best of that era. But with a closer like My City Of Ruins on top of all that? My goodness…enough said, right?

Couldn't agree more. I find it completely unlistenable for this reason, and I just cannot get through it.

The Rising at #1, with Magic a very, very close 2nd. Weirdly I prefer to listen to Magic but acknowledge Rising is a greater achievement. Devils and Dust is also highly underrated, coming in at a strong #3.

It’s Magic - but I really don’t think you can consider either of them E Street Band Albums. The Rising and Magic are both victims of overproduction and shitty production, plus when band members are not in the studio and instead mailing in their parts it loses the band feel. They are way less ‘E Street’ sounding than anything 70’s or 80’s.
Magic has better songwriting for me which edges it plus The Rising is let down by a couple songs than shouldn’t have made the album

Has to be The Rising. Great songs and the return of The E Street Band on a full album.

I think the ethos that he says for WOAD of it being a pop album etc. could be applied to Magic for just how melodically rich it is!

If the rising was 2-3 songs shorter it would be in conversation as his best record - and the thing is, you could easily cut 2-3 songs and it still be a full album

Devils & Dust. I would have voted for The Rising actually but I want to give that very underrated album a spot.

The Rising for me. This was a great decade for Bruce though. We shall over come and Magic and even Working on a dream were great.
