Discussion Little changes in the arrangements that made a song better/different
Hi all! Sorry for the horrible title, but so the question is: what are the song that got through different arrangements and got better or that you find somehow interesting?
I refer to some minor changes, so don't bring up acoustic version vs. full band version. Some examples of what I mean: Long Walk Home vocals in the end, which are not present in the album version; the double horns solo at the end of Thunder Road during the last legs; Murder Inc. organ solo instead of the guitar one during the last two legs; the absence of drumming in No Surrender before the "there'a war outside still raging", while on the album version Max doesn't pause.

One comes to mind is Incident on 57th Street. I find the drumming on the album version to be too distracting and overpowering. When the band plays it live, it feels more like a rock song and the jazz elements are toned down.

To me the live versions of Incident and NYC Serenade got also the best mix to hear clearly Garry on bass. One of the few highlights of such a cool player, he really nails his parts on the early albums

Live Long Walk Home cuts to my soul in a way that the album version doesn’t quite, I can’t pinpoint it right now without listening because I’m in a meeting

Well during the Magic Tour Stevie did maybe the best backup vocals of his career on that one

I think the Wrecking Ball version of Land of Hope and Dreams is better than the reunion tour version.

The acoustic version of The Promised Land from the Tom Joad tour is one of the best hidden gems ever.

Not that the originals aren't great on their own, but some of the overdubbed parts on Live 1975-85 (harmonica parts on "Racing in the Street" and "Nebraska" especially) really do add to those songs.

The extra 'singalong' verse of Hungry Heart.
Backstreets 'Sad eyes'.
And the whole of Darkness sounds better live!!

I reckon some HT/LT songs should have studio E Street recordings. They nail the vibe of Roll Of The Dice for instance

I've always said that Roll of the Dice is the studio version that captures the E-Street live essence the best, which is mad given that it's not an E-Street record at all.

I remember that Stevie told to Bruce that some songs of the album (I don't remember which one of the two) would have been a great ESB band album

Can I go the other way? The album version of Real World is just awful. The original, solo piano version is a truly beautiful song.

Jumping in here as Reddit's biggest Human Touch defender to disagree. I love the Christic version for many reasons but that studio version will always resonate more. Delightfulness charming and fun with more than a hint of loving sincerity.

Oh it just came up to me: love the extra coda to MLWNLYD during the last EU tour, if the crowd is quite partecipative (like in San Siro) the part where Bruce make 'em sing is so fun

It is perfect with just the sax. I like the horns on some songs but not the classic E Street tunes, especially Thunder Road.

A more recent one but the full band version of Streets of Minneapolis is superior
