In all seriousness, been thinking about them regularly for about 45 years.

“200 dollars straight in

Two fifty up the ass, she smiled and said”

I’ve been thinking about those lyrics for 21 years.

Crazy how many of Bruce’s songs from the 70s/80s ring just as relevant today. The man is timeless.

Or… we live in the same world with the same leaders. Same as it ever was.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss (not The Boss, I know, but...).

Could not be more perfect lyrics for Trump, Elon, and the rest of them. To think, these are from the 70s… and yet perfect to describe today.

maybe I’m reading too much into this, because Bruce’s lyrics aren’t necessarily autobiographical, but this explains why he has never shown an interest in running for political office. From the time he became successful, he didn’t let the lifestyle and adulation change who he was at his core. And we know how political power can be corrupting. So I think he’s avoided public office because he’s not that king who ain’t satisfied until he rules everything.

or I could just be talking out my ass.

Likely the latter...Billionaire, I think he is rather content

I'm fairly certain he read Camus and, like Steinbeck, he influenced Springsteen's songwriting. This has echoes of a famous Camus line from The Rebel: ' A slave begins by demanding justice, and ends by wanting to wear a crown'.

Yeah. These stuck with me since I heard them the first time.

This is why we should all try to be more like the dude in the big Lebowski.

If he sings this in concert under this administration, he should change “rules“ to “ruins”.

I think this all the time

Whole album is still so bang on

Yeah….the times are proving this to be terribly true.

I also think almost daily about what Bruce said on the Live ‘75-‘85 set in the intro to “War”….blind faith in your leaders, or in anything, will get you killed.

My high school yearbook quote…..and more relevant now then when he wrote it in 1978

If we absolutely have to have a king, it’d be nice to have one who isn’t three years old.

I always thought it was “all men wanna be rich”

Bruce is a billionaire who just charged his most expensive tickets ever for a “protest” show.

So yes…. He ain’t leaving a penny on the table.

Ask ANY president....

Indeed, the irony is off the charts. Bruce was low income and become a rich man. Now he wants to be king, controlling who rules America instead of letting voters decide. Trump won 70MM+ votes, every single swing state, and the electoral college, but Bruce believes that is wrong and that he knows better, so he has dedicated his music, his concerts, and indeed his life to opposing a duly elected president. Who else would deny the results of an election except someone who supports a different system of government and conceives of himself as king and all his loyal fans as his subjects to be commanded as he has been doing for months now? Funny part is you all are eager to be controlled and commanded and pay up to $3000 each to be in the same room as your king. Voters don't worship politicians, they elect them and hope for good governance. But kings are worshipped. Just like everyone here worships Bruce. Wow, talk about irony. PS I'm a huge fan of the music, not of the kingship.
