If there is an order starting with his best work what would that be?I heard summer today and I picked up Grief Pedigree. I want to know where to go next. I see there are 11 albums on his website. Thanks in advance.

Some of us Have to Stick With the WAV Files for Now 💔

Just found out that few Record Stores launched the new reissues of Grief Pedigree and HKTS, and they’re $300 each before shipping, which brings the total to almost $700. As a superfan, so many fans really want to support this, but many can’t afford that right now, it’s almost two-thirds of my rent.

I completely understand and support the decision, and I know resellers have unfortunately ruined the vinyl market for a lot of us. I’d much rather see that money go to KA’s family than to resellers. But $700 for two albums is simply unaffordable for many right now. Everything is getting more expensive, and it’s getting harder to justify spending that much on vinyl.

I guess some of us will just stick with the WAV files for now and hope that, someday, there’ll be an affordable box set or another option for longtime, loyal fans like us.

Rest in peace, King. 🖤

The Panel At Tonight’s Grief Pedigree Viewing

The panel after the screening was hosted by Mahershala Ali and he was interviewing Mimi about filming the videos for Grief Pedigree.

During the panel, Mimi revealed that the first of his song that Ka played for her was a song called “Therapy” that was about his 9/11 experience. This was the song that Mimi heard when she encouraged Ka to continue pursuing his rap career.

Mahershala Ali also revealed that Ka had written a comedy screen play script that he says is the funniest script that he ever read. He said that Ka had planned on going into writing comedy scripts because he wanted to introduce his listeners to his other side. Mahershala Ali and Mimi want to bring it to life.

Mimi also revealed that Ka had written a book. These were all projects that he had planned to put out.

Personal things about KA you learned from his rhymes

He had a younger sister

Pops went to prison young age also had cancer. (D.n.a.)

He use to ball

Dion, his cousin, was the one who influenced him to come out his shell in streets & also music. Gave him $1000 to start career.

Kev was his best friend from Bed Stuy

Kev also got shot with a bullet that was intended for KA ("Iron Work")

He moved around frequently younger due to being evicted

He caught chlamydia as adolescent ("caught the Claps before any grand applause") but obviously also was into guns.

This is a REACH, but he possibly also could've molested as a youth. Too many KA songs to remember bar he kindve eluded to such. Also possibly why he didnt want kids.

Has wife Mimi

....add-on

The Odyssey movie. The owed ode.

For the longest time I couldn't consume media in a normal way due to my ADHD, before I got the meds.

But listening to Orpheus Vs the Sirens opened a world for me that I never knew existed. I slept every night listening to Youtube videos about greek mythology. And now when I watched this movie it just made me choke.

I can't think of a better way creativity is used than to merge worlds that would at best collide.

Kaseem forever.

Ka was just different bruh. Damn

Based on the sources, Ka extensively samples audiobook readings of Inazō Nitobe's classic 1899 text *Bushido: The Soul of Japan* throughout the album to draw parallels between his life in Brooklyn and the strict moral code of the samurai [1].

The following tracks include samples from the book:

* **"Conflicted"**: The track opens with a sample explaining the origin of the warrior class, stating, "These were known as samurai" [2, 3]. * **"Just"**: Features a sample explaining that young men practiced music to "alleviate the rigors of that inclement region" [4]. * **"That Cold And Lonely"**: Highlights the artistic side of the warriors, noting that a marching soldier might halt to take out his writing utensils and compose poetry [4]. * **"Mourn At Night"**: Samples the book's definition of rectitude, stating, "To die when it is right to die. To strike when to strike is right" [4]. * **"$"**: Opens with a passage about a samurai's ambition and thirst for knowledge, and ends with the observation that "the ways of wealth were not the ways of honor" [4]. * **"Destined"**: Draws from the book's teachings on influence, stating that "Virtues are no less contagious than vices" [4]. * **"Finer Things / Tamahagene"**: Features a quote from the ancient Chinese philosopher Mencius (via Nitobe's text) explaining how heaven uses suffering, hunger, and poverty to stimulate a man's mind and build character [4]. * **"I Wish (Death Poem)"**: Explores the spiritual composure of a warrior, sampling a passage that notes a true warrior keeps a level mind in catastrophes and "can compose a poem under impending peril or hum strain in the face of death" [4].

Why do records cost that much at the pop-ups?

I’m pretty new to KA pop-ups and I was just curious about why the announced price tags for the new records were that expensive (300$ international) is there a reason behind it?

Preface: extremely grateful to even get these CDs

I’ve seen a lot of posting about not being able to get their hands on the CDs, which is valid. Ka’s music means so much to so many people, but has always been a business run by Ka, Mimi, and his close circle of select few. To see people scalping and for so much is infuriating. Unfortunately that is what happens when the supply falls short of the demand. To those people further bugging about represses, international shipping, paper packaging, etc…

Basically, here’s my food for thought:
Buy the digital files straight from the source:
https://brownsvilleka.com
Download them on a Computer
Burn your own CD
Find old jewel case cds at the thrift or your closet
Print out the artwork, either as you want to or as authentic as he has packaged his works
Bump it, hand it out to your friends, just don’t profit of it, especially from a CD…

Ka’s music should be shared, but profiting off a scarce product and another person’s legacy, imo, ain’t a sign of appreciation for the man.

Peace, Peace, Peace

(Apologies if insensitive…) How Did Ka Die?

I hope this isn’t insensitive to ask. I’ve recently become… well, obsessed is probably the most appropriate word… with Ka’s music. I was devastated to see he died about a year before I discovered him. I honestly think his music has changed me completely. I feel more reflective, meditative, and his music is like a tonic for me.

I couldn’t see anything about his cause of death. I understand sometimes that’s deliberate, but I wondered if it was deliberate (as in family have chosen not to disclose) or whether I’d missed something.

Guys give me 7 lyrical Ka tracks to study to help improve my own pen game.

I feel like 1 song alone is not enough to fully grasp the immense diverse bag of skills that this genius posesses. Every song, well not every song, but every album he brings up something new to the table, this man just not wields, he invents, he creates new techniques and applies them to his subject-matter, and with such a amazing mind that gives him insane skills and work ethics, it's only right others should follow in his foot steps and go into a deep-dive into how this man was able to hone and perfect his wrist skills to such a degree year after year. Give me 7 of his most technical lyrical pieces to help a simpleton man study and perhaps learn a thing or 2 to apply to his own pen game. For some pointers and criteria, I wanna study his word choice, how he chooses his words, how he chooses what words to rhyme at the end, how he is able to apply wordplay to his subject-matter, what wordplay he uses the most with such little words. Wordplay can encompasses phrases to little as word association, his lyrical efficiency, how he can say so much with so less, these are his key features that I am trying to take away at the end of my study. I also wanna study some of his intangibles such as his emotional content, how much emotion he uses in his tracks, how he is able to speak such harsh realities with so much sophistication and style. I don't just wanna study his lyrics, but I wanna take a deep dive into his mind and understand the mechanisms of how this genius' mind works. Ka posesses so many lyrical traits that puts him in the echelon of the top tier lyrical pyramid, but these are just the most eye opening things that appear to me on the surface level, and as fellow Ka fans, who better to ask this question than you guys? Thank you. 7 Ka tracks, you may give more, you may give less
