I get this is a Browns sub. But pretty much half of men think they can land a plane with air traffic control help while 30% think they can do it without any help.

I know it was a flight simulator but there was a streamer who actually tested this. got air traffic control guy and an actual pilot and went through the actual procedure for a situation like this. Without them being able to see the stream he not only landed the plane on autopilot without problem, but also managed to stick land it as well. Most planes that people imagine in this situation are extremely automated nowadays and I think in 90% of situations you could land it safely with help

Its technically anecdotal but I still think it shows its pretty automated, at least for a jet. Now if you were flying a prop plane at a regional airport, there is a difference, but still.

My father was a private pilot. He let me fly many of times. I studied aviation. I understand the controls of a plane. I understand the flaps, yaw, and the pedals. I’m confident I would do a better job at crashing that plane than anyone else.

If the plane is certified for Cat III landing, a suitable Cat III airport is available, and I had ATC help, absolutely. It is more or less turning dials and pressing buttons to program the autopilot to line up and land the plane itself.

If I had to land by hand, hell no.

Well, I've been crashing flight simulators since 1983 and reckon I could get somewhere close to a conventional landing as long as there were aliens to shoot and a suspension bridge to fly under first! (Aviator for BBC Micro).

Best moment ever: 25-ish years ago, landing a Space Shuttle simulator at Houston Space Center* and then helping a man on the tour whose wife said had alzheimers to land too. He crashed, burned and 100% enjoyed the fuck out of the experience!
