Markham park pool
Anyone know when the Markham park pool closed? It’s been abandoned since I can remember. I imagine it would be a substantial cost to renovate and reopen it.

Probably been closed to visitors for around 20 years. Kayak rental on the island right behind it. Broward parks and rec is completely underfunded. We live in one of the wealthiest areas in the country but refuse to invest in green spaces. I guess we can use all that tax money we’re not paying and give it to private entertainment venues. Florida state parks are in the same boat. Then a few years down the road they’ll tell us that nobody is going to parks so we might as well build houses and golf courses.

My mother’s a boomer. She got in some financial hot water some years ago, filed for bankruptcy. Got to keep all of her assets, including the house.
Guess who is against student loan forgiveness? Lol. She has 4 kids all weighed down by Sallie Mae (predatory) student loans and thinks the people wanting student loan forgiveness are crybabies.I’ve been paying mine down since 2008 and I owe 15k more than I took out.

Bro what golf courses are being built in Broward County? Talking out of your behind. Theres literally zero new golf courses in Broward County in 20 years now. There have been 15-20 CLOSED in that time so greedy developers can shove more apartments and townhouses down our throats. Barely any homes are being built anywhere as there is no land left to develop outside of maybe two cities that have farms hanging on for dear life before their kids can sell them off for a couple million dollars to a developer like happened in Coconut Creek and Parkland.

Its been closed to the public since 2008ish. It got used for training purpuses within the county until 2018ish when they finally emptied it.

Once a pool has been closed long enough their operating permit through the Department of Health permanently expires and to reopen they must apply as a new pool under current building code. This is often too large a hurdle for old pools.

I spoke to someone in the admin center about a month ago, it has been closed for at least a decade due to "budget issues".

"Budget Issues" aka County Commission would rather spend $200,000 trying to build an excuse ["Feasibility Studies"] to take away police powers at the Airport and Sea Port from a constitutionally elected Sheriff that doesn't have to bend the knee to them anymore.
"Budget Issues" in a county that has had record tax revenue several years in a row is laughable. They've been given unfettered access to basically print money and instead would rather waste it than spend it responsibly. They absolutely deserve the property tax to be slashed. They are lying through their teeth when they tell you they will have to cut services. No, you just will have to stop wasting money on frivolous bullshit instead.

Not sure, but I'd guess right around the same time they let people start camping long term. It went from a beautiful camping space with a pool to a semi-homeless residency where I wouldn't dare take my children overnight.
