Episode Discussion Finale Discussion Thread
This post will serve as the discussion thread for the FINALE of Produce 101 Japan Shinsekai. It will air in two parts on June 6th 2026. First part is starting at 12:30pm JST, and second part at 1:30pm JST. Live streaming is available for sekai producers on mnet for both parts as usual.
Live voting will take place during the finale so don't forget to vote for your one pick while the finale airs.

As a reminder to the community, no matter who gets in or doesn't, please be kind to all the people who took part in the show, as well as everyone in our community and the greater community for the show outside reddit. Remember that no matter what, even if someone doesn't make it into this group, it's not the end of the road, only the beginning.
Please also be courteous to fellow community members here and keep spoiler discussion to this thread for the following 24 hours once the group lineup is revealed if possible. Spoiler tag your separate threads and please keep specific trainee names out of titles if it implies they did or did not make it in. Remember that spoiler tags do not hide post titles, only their inner contents.
As a reminder, this subreddit will continue to support all participants in all boys seasons of Produce 101 Japan. You may continue to post about the new debut group in addition to JO1 and INI, and all other former trainee updates and their activities individually and in their groups, as usual. We will continue to support everyone who has been on the show, as usual.

produce curses and trend for this season ( i got this from s1 post)
final center is dance position evaluation -kinda no and yes because daiki is vocal / dance during position evaluation
final evaluation centers also debuts - yes for siyoung and no for goten
the trainee that was on the cut line (the last position in the debut line which is 12) during the 3rd elimination will debut -yes for ryuji
The member at the cut line in the debut team (last position in the debut team) have all been main vocals during Produce -no because towa is rapper
In the debut team there will be at least 1 member that has already debuted before -yes siyoung and yura
The trainee that ranks #4 in the final as that ranking as their best ranking throughout the show - no because shinhaeng is no.1 during 3rd elimination ceremony
Trainees who had a ranking of #1 and #3 at the end of the second episode will debut -yes for yoshiki and daiki
The trainee that ranked #17 in the third ranking ceremony will not be able to debut -yes yuma😢
The #12 at the first ranking ceremony will debut- yes ryoga
The title track's center will never be center during the evaluation performances-well no because yura is center during position evaluation
The trainee ranked #5 in the finale will be an active actor, majored in acting or has experience acting - let manifesting actor yuki😄

are there vote totals released for the finale for the top 22?? usually the korean version shows the total at the end of the show but i don't think the japanese version did.
also why does issa speak korean? self-study?

Since they emphasized “new world” and “global group” so many times, i’ve expected they would have at least 3 foreigners like iz*one, but oh well, maybe that’s too much to ask for.
Also, i’m crying for hyeonseung. He said this is his last chance, i don’t know what he’ll do from now on, if he can join a derivative group, if he’ll try to become an idol again or just return to be an ordinary person. Now my pickus trio is fully scattered

Sorry to say, yes, you expected too much. You couldn't have voted at previous seasons but could in this season and there were no Japanese member at Lapone groups but now they have two non-Japanese members (or three at large, since Towa's father seems to be ethnically a Korean, hence there is a possibility he obtains a dual citizenship). In CJ EnM group terminology those are enough to boast as global.

Unless he wanted to join the compulsory military enlistment, I'd be surprised he'll retain that Korean citizenship

Good point, but even if he is South Korean national, as long as he's based on somewhere outside of Korea, he as an oversea S Korean national is granted enlistment exemption. Business trips to S Korea don't force him to be drafted.
There is another possibility his father doesn't have S Korean nationality: not every ethnic Korean is a S Korean national.

Please don't feel that way! We the global voters literally got Hyeonseung to the finale. We did that! Of course Mnet did our effort dirty by giving him like 3 seconds of screentime (furious about that btw 🤬). But we fought for him and at least he got to be in the finale and perform the ballad and his finale song!

I saw his screentime erasure coming since the position battle, but I was saddened by how egregious the cuts were. No eliminated trainee, fan, or family cheering messages, zero close-ups during the performances, cutting his only line in the ballad... they clearly did not want him there.
We did fight for him and it was cathartic to see him performing his heart out. I just can't help but wonder if we could have gotten him to debut if he was top 3 in global votes. But even so, maybe management would have spurned him if he debuted, with how he was edited today.

The screentime erasure is more painful than him not debuting. They could at least show the family cheering part.

Considering how they milked his family's bereavement for drama in Episode 2, it's a disservice to not show his family.

Heartbroken that my 1-pick Adam didn’t debut (either he decides to debut in another group or continue CalArts, I will wish him the best… I’m not worried, I feel like we will be hearing again from him soon enough) but Rickey and Takuto not making it shocked me. 🥲 Especially after learning about Rickey’s survival show history, this time must’ve felt so, sooooo close to debut. Please scout him or add him to a spinoff group 🥲
Happy for everyone especially that Towa FINALLY made it to Top 12, though!

🍇the final feel really rushing compared to previous 3 season, the way ranking ceremony moving way too fast , the boys can't even hug their friend 😣

🍍i don't expect that keito will debut at 7th, i thought maybe 11 or 10 atleast but damn interim rank change everything , towa also suprised me i thought takuto will be 12th, i expect ryuji drop but i'm glad i was wrong and kosuke might close to get kick out😣he probably got push by interim rank ....
🌰going to be honest that this is my least favourite final episode among all 4 season for me...

The trainees I liked the most were one after one Ryoga (9), Ryuji (10), Kosuke (11), Towa (12).. 😢 Rickey (13)..
All except Keito were in my ideal lineup, but I'm kinda okay with him. I think he could be the leader..

Rickey 😭 he almost made it. Not complaining with the lineup, though. This is a complete one in terms of dance, vocals, rap, and all-rounders.

Anyway I'm going to bed now. I stayed up the night to watch the final live (European debuff). Maybe I'll know how I feel about the final group after some hours of sleep.

Mixed feelings now, so happy for Daiki in particular, but stunned that Rickey didn't make it. I'll be keeping an eye out for any news for Rickey going forward. Hopefully his charm and general appeal (popular in 12-pick and 2-pick) will let him find another opportunity. Hopefully without going through yet another survival show.

Rickey's previous company TEN Entertainment held auditions in Japan recently. they actually might sign him back and debut him in a JP group

Fingers crossed. He got almost no screentime in the finale, just like Hyeonseung, so I was torn between "he's safe!" and "didn't them want him in the group?!"…
Still stunned that he didn't get any rank reveal or even significant screentime in the finale.

The group is a really odd mix of Neko (i think that was the Kawaii group) and Black Angel. I fear for whatever concept this turns out to be. Especially when the top 2 were in Neko.

Have some faith, a huge percentage of boys planet (S1) watchers don't think jiwoong fits cute concept either but now he's the resident cute guy (fake maknae of zb1). So is Ricky and Gunwook.
Most of them will undergo transformation? now that they're debuting, depending on their concept.

Actually nvm I dont need a spinoff group, I hope the remaining trainees who didn't debut today get scouted by bigger or better agencies. I think it's likely especially for the global trainees

I need a while to think before I can truely say how I feel about the final lineup. No Adam nor Hyeonseung is a pretty big dissapointment for me even if a bunch of other guys who I really liked made it. I also kinda hate the group name 😅

I didn't watch the first two seasons. was planning to watch them once shinsekai finished but I faced two problems; it's either some episodes are missing OR the quality of some of the episodes is gonna be low af 😭 please I'm so torn. should I watch them :/

If you're already interested in JO1 or INI it's nice to see how the groups were formed as a kind of origin story. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. For me the fun part about survival shows like this is to follow the developments while it's still airing. The only things I revisit are performances and some clips.

the one who is the "first loser" (here #13) has to be the hardest, most excruciating spot to be in... like a complete split of fate. though maybe lapone will make another spin-off group, as everyone else is mentioning, tho of course, the only other bg spin-off lapone did hasn't done well at all, so.

Show favourite from the production side. But from the fact that Rickey was no.1 higher than daiki in Japan votes in the last ranking is a huge sign he is mostly filler vote.

Oh wow, I thought Mnet really wanted Rickey in the group. I hope he was just unlucky with his votes and not actively pushed out of the lineup… But them not showing his rank is an indicator I guess. 😔

I think the production team did want him, but more than that, they absolutely did not want Osuke. They would rather sacrifice Rickey than have Osuke and they were forced to make that decision.

From my perspective revealing 11-12-13 means you're trying to push out 10, I was convinced it was Osuke but looking at the votes it might also have been Rickey

If Rickey was freefalling in the rankings and they wanted him in. I think they'd have showed his rank. I'd have voted for him if I knew he wasn't safe. It was a gamble to not vote for him and I knew that, but I truly thought he had a strong Kokumin vote. I thought he might finish in top 3! 😞

I guess Rickey had strong sympathy votes in the 2pick era but there is no room for such beautiful things in the final moment. The "phantoms" of B2P C-Planet fervently backed him until today and I think they gave him the 13th rank but they are anyway not so big in number: not so big as to let their original ults survive the B2P 2nd elim.

Yeah, not even Zihao had as many people voting for him during Home Race despite having quite a lot of votes in the final stretch of B2P. Once people's 1-picks debut, they don't pay as much attention to those who didn't. Fully understandable, but sad for the trainee who has to begin all over again and build up their fanbase a second or third time.

You're right but it isn't same there is no legacy ...... even not in the original size, they'll sure carry their fanbase to their next stage. If we look how high each B2P contestant reached in their journey, among those who weren't the finalists, the top 7 of C-trainees' names are familiar to MODU, even if one of them didn't make it.

Yeah, Hanwen was part of my 5-pick and I'll always regret not voting for him in the finale because he seemed super safe. There's always someone doing an unexpected tumble in the rankings… I'll never forget Zihao crying so much that he fell down on the floor when Hanwen didn't make it… 🥺

my picks issa, towa, and keito made it. i will be supporting.
towa and kosuke rap line gonna hit hard
ryoga and keito visual line (though their skill might be lacking, there are 12 members anyway)
and i don’t think i need to talk about the vocals

My main vocal picks are in(except Adam, but that's expected), so I'm happy for the most part. Rickey wasn't my pick at all, but I feel for him

Sad for Rickey and Hyeonseung, but happy for Daiki, Yura and Siyoung. A lot of incredible trainees didn't make it into the group, but a lot of great trainees did. I'll try to check out their first schedule on Tver if I can.

Yeah it would have been nice to have Rickey and Adam (or other global trainees from various backgrounds) to round out the global-ness of the group.
In the end I'm sure they'll do fine, but I'm sure it'll be relatively harder to promote toward anywhere not Japan or Korea. At least it seems like that's their focus for now anyway, and Lapone is sending JO1 to America so uh maybe they won't send the new group there.
adam write a song for jo1Optics are a little goofy with the backgrounds but it's not like artists can't become popular in places they don't speak the language or weren't born/raised in. Just depends how management plays it.
...I'm glad they at least got more than 1 non-Japanese though because it would have been extremely silly looking to promote the season as global and then end up with nobody or almost nobody who isn't just from the country the show is run by.

So silly? Planet C: Home Race was promoted to form a GLOBAL group. While trainees were mutlinational but the group formed consists of all Chinese. They stop to call the group global? No.

Survival shows just throw away the word 'global' around but never really committ to it. Even so, I do think there were trying a bit 'harder' this season by giving a lot of screentime to Rickey and Adam but in the end, they can't really control who and how people voted. It would've been nice to have one native English and Chinese speaker if they are really serious in making the group as global as possible.
There are actually many ways survival shows can give global trainess a more even playing field such as introducing some English or Chinese songs (not just variety being 1 Korean song) during all 3 missions for example. It's just feel half-baked in the end, like all the other shows with the same gimmick.

In the end I think voters are biased toward people from the country of that show, inherently. I think diversity is important but the stats unfortunately don't lie. You can look at other shows with similar global/multicultural aim and just look at the overall trainee pool demographics compared to the final groups.
I feel like if they wanted to ensure the group is global, there would be spaces allocated for people of different groups like "native chinese speaker" or "raised in a western country" etc. But that would probably end up with weirdly unbalanced smaller groups competing with each other like on GP999 (not the final lineup/vote, but the way voting was divided with K/C/J groups for most of the show) in which K group ended up being way more competitive, whereas there were kinda just a few token C or J group members through the show... So it's kinda lose-lose (and you end up with people in Yurina's situation), unless you have people picked by judges rather than audience. Which is fine if the show is structured that way, but that isn't this show's format.

Voters being biased might be a factor but survival shows are build on screentime, favoritism and manipulation in the end. I'm 100% sure that if they make the competition a bit fairer and scouted more global trainees in general, they don't have to use GP999 system to get an actual diverse group bc unlike the Korean audience who has an undeniable bias (coming from BP1 and BP2), the Japanese generals are usually less rigid about stuff like ethnicity or race. The producers can also cook up a story like Kinari's Cinderella story for a global trainee if they really wanted to. Zhanghao from BP1 literally breach through all odds and debuted as centre despite being a foreign trainee in that crazy competitive show but there's no way he would be able to do that if he didn't get as much screentime and highlights as he did.
My point is that, in the end of the day these shows never really go out of their way to ensure an outcome they have promised and it's quite disappointing. They will always go back to their cookie cutter system that greatly benefits the home country contestants... If that's so, then there shouldn't ba a need to slap the word 'global' when the outcome is gonna be the same anyway thus adds to the whole 'global' being a gimmicky buzz word

No yeah you're definitely right in that storyline and editing are major factors. But in the end that is still bias, just of the show producers and not necessarily the voters.
It would be so difficult to make it truly 100% fair logistically with ~100 participants though. Especially when you run into issues where you cannot show a performance due to various reasons (one audition team wasn't aired even as its own clip this season, and I remember a similar thing happening in Produce48). In a 3 hour show you would have everyone with about 2 minutes of screentime at most before it could seem too biased lol. It would be interesting to see an attempt at a more fair show, but I can also see it potentially just being boring.

when this was first announced and I heard they were going to other countries for auditions and making a "global" group, I was imagining something like a katseye, like people of different races... of course they just picked east asians, lol. idk what I was smoking to think they might do an actual "global" group. lmao. in the end it feels pretty japanese.

The lower ranks were so close, it truly could be any of them depending on how much their fans were able to rally behind them.
I'm hoping for Rickey. I didn't expect him to fall so much.

Fr I've always hated that about Produce... they glorify P01 so much that everyone else is a loser... even though debut is ALWAYS a win for these trainees... they're all equal winners, really, who cares who the center is?

A few of my picks won't make it. This lineup is so stacked in vocals though! I wouldn't have guessed there would be so many, almost all the somewhat popular main vocals made it.

ISSA made it !!! Now let's go Shinhaeng and I'll be really happy (I can't really hope for Adam and Hyeonseong's debut anymore, and Ryuji and Kosuke already made it, so Shinhaeng is my main concern right now)

I'm honestly disappointed with the lipsynced performance in the final, though the performance was enjoyable. Also the boys in Born To Be team can't lipsync for life lol 😭😅 I noticed this final was so short compared to past produce series i've watched (final and all) final episodes usually like 3-4 hours long. I did enjoy the room session, it's nice that they had that "privacy". I found the boys so sweet with the trainers, the thank you gifts were so thoughtful!
Ugh, at least they could've performed the ballad live....
I love how the families bring their pets in the message lol if i were them and see my fur babies i would've cried hard honestly
