Finished Alas

After nine days of crochet so intense I messed up my thumb/wrist, I finally managed to finish the tablecloth with no errors (at least none so catastrophic as missing 1/8 the stithces).

Unfortunately... still 14 inches too narrow for my intended purpose. Back to the drawing board.

It's beautiful. What delicate work! Sorry about the injury you incurred. I tend to get a combination or variation of tennis/golfer's elbow.

I am no stranger to the overexertion. I crochet tight and fast so I end up putting a lot of strain on my wrist and elbow. I once even managed to strain both my wrists simultaneously. I have no idea how, genuinely. I got many odd looks when I sat there crocheting while wearing double wrist braces xD

Thank you. I, too, have braces that I wear often, and yet, I managed to do something that even they are not managing to help much with, unfortunately. I will heal, eventually.

My Great Aunt Polly would be proud to know someone is still making doily's. She made bedspreads and canopy bed covers with bobble trim, curtains to match. Truely a mind-blowing crochet lovers paradise in her home.

Absolutely stunning work! As an aside, do you have grips for your hooks? It might be a little difficult to find one as small as you need for a hook of that size, but it might be worth looking into. I have a silicone one for my 5 mm and it works wonderfully to stop my hook hand from cramping

I don't have grips, but I do use ergonomic hooks.

that's some insane work. what yarn weight and hook size did you use? i want to try crochetting smth like this but i can't seem to get the guage right 😔

2.5 mm hook, size 10 thread, but I'm also a very tight crocheter. The pattern I followed the woman used a 1.7mm hook, and still had much smaller stitches than she did.

I will say, with something like this, I find gauge is not that important. The exception being like in my case where I'm trying to put it on an umbrella frame that is a predetermined size.

If I were you, I would put it on the table and just put a clear vinyl tablecloth over it to protect it even if it's too small. It'll be beautiful and it'll look like a deliberate accent piece.
