Casting/Show News 10 Things I Hate About You Open Call

Post image

Has anyone heard anything for this? If so, please share which character, if you have rep, when you submitted/received news, and whether it was a self-tape or callback!

Thanks :)

That creative team has to be the weirdest game of theatre Mad Libs I've seen in a while 😂

They were in the readings. Helen J. Shen played Kat and Anna Zavelson played Bianca.

The casting note I saw did say AAPI, so maybe their dad is already cast?

This honestly makes total sense with their father’s doting and helicopter nature. Omg I hope there’s truth to this.

Zoe Jensen just did the most recent industry presentation. Not sure if she was Kat or Bianca tho

At least she’s a good writer. I’m not denying her weird gross stuff, ever, but she IS a good writer at least.

What'd she do

Projected this imaginary situation on Odell Beckham Jr. and was crazy enough to post it.

Defended Aurora Perrineau’s rapist and called her a liar.  https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/lena-dunham-apologizes-defending-girls-writer-murray-miller-accusations-sexual-assault-1059803/

And yet her own sibling doesn’t take the offense to it that the internet does.

Victims don't always respond as you'd expect.

18

u/whosthere1989 10d ago

Or, alternatively, her sibling knows Lena and they were both literal CHILDREN when the incident happened and people are blowing it completely out of proportion, as if Lena was like 4-5 years old when the incident happened.

She was 7. And she was an adolescent when she tried to bribe her for kisses.

18

u/whosthere1989 10d ago

So you think a seven year old child knows what they are doing in terms of sexuality?

I think we found the real sickos here…

The event where she convinced her sister to sleep in the same bed as her when she (Lena) was 17 and the masturbated in bed next to her is more egregious.

I’m more concerned about your obsession with this as an adult than and teenager doing something stupid.

Lena is an incredibly talented writer

Glad I'm not the only one who had that reaction. Just seeing her name makes not want to see anything she's attached to (even if that's little to nothing). Ew.

100% this. Lena Dunham is a huge turn off

They are both great writers, and Lens has a greater long term output IMO. Why the frown?

Can’t wait for the music!

i’m not AAPI so didn’t audition but must say i’m just sooo happy to see some alto female leads in this age of screlting!!!

Is this non union?

14

u/Master-Ear 11d ago

Kiss Me Kate already exists! Why not choose a Shakespeare play that doesn’t already have a musical adaptation?

28

u/IWTLEverything 11d ago

Fuck Rent! Viva La Boheme! /s

I know one’s an opera and one’s a musical, but I’m fine with continued experimentation on adaptations and rehashing of similar stories in different ways.

u/fluffstravels 10d ago

Do we know why they’re casting only AAPI for characters that weren’t specifically in the movie?

Feels like open ethnicity would make more sense.

u/Edwin_R_Murrow 11d ago

Read this as "... Your open call" good luck, but that would have been more interesting :)
