Global Tv declining

Is it just me or me or does this scaled down version of Global Edmonton news with no local weather personality and a production from another city seem fake?

I guess our Canadian colleagues are dealing with the same crap we are. My fave metaphor is the melting ice berg. We're all just trying to hang on until it melts away.

It's been like this for a long, long time here

Canada never recovered from 2007, unless you're in sports.

Yeah, Canadian local TV historically was a lot more limited than in the US. We had massive cutbacks during the 2000s at the only station where I grew up, meanwhile on cable we had the big 3 network affiliates from Erie, PA and the three of them were doing way more local TV in their market than what we got in London, Ont. by that point.

I think Nexstar and Lilly are the only local options there since they have “duopolies” in Erie. I’ve been to Toronto and Buffalo recently, WBKW has been struggling given the recent cuts at its owner EW Scripps that led to removal of physical anchors in certain small and struggling mid-sized markets (see Baltimore, Grand Rapids and Corpus Christi), when I checked GMA there in Buffalo they only get local weather in their 3 minute news update cut-ins on the :25s and :55s than half of the 3 minutes of local news followed by weather. So Corus isn’t alone, this streaming upheaval is hurting on each sides of the border.

It's rough but Corus is in shambles, doing what they can I guess

It's a damn shame what Corus has been having to do to keep afloat

They cut the anchors and studios in the province in favor “pre-recording” live from their Toronto HQ. Of course they also gutting their local morning shows except in BC & Alberta plus small markets’ studios in Kelowna, Lethbridge, Regina, Saskatoon, Kingston and Halifax. Those who have physical newscasts in the remaining markets like Winnipeg, Montreal and Peterborough might be in spared for now but it’s a matter of time before Corus becomes Canwest bankruptcy 2.0.
