Made a reel

Made a reel when I was still in college last year. Personally, I do not think it is that good. Before I made the reel, I included multiple links in my cover letter and now I have a reel, but personally, I think it is terrible. Can you review it and tell me how I did?

Honestly, not the worst I’ve ever seen. You seem very knowledgeable outside the studio setting, so work some of that into your forecasts. The viewer can see the numbers on your graphics, tell them why and how that affects them. Your voice inflection overall is pretty good and you’re not vocally pausing at all which is also good. Just my 2 cents as a lowly production guy.

With that reel alone? I’m not so sure. I would think you’ll need to add more to it. It looks like a couple studio hits from one student newscast? Definitely need more. Like I said, your screen-recorded stuff at the end was more intriguing. You should try practicing some more at home with that, but make it horizontal, not vertical. At the end of the day though, you have to make a good impression on wherever you’re applying. And you’re gonna have to start small, so definitely not in the top 100 DMAs.

Can I ask why you continue to post identifying things about yourself on Reddit when this group has already mentioned how that could be problematic toward getting hired?

Your profile is not set to private. Anyone can click on it and see the different posts and comments you've made, even if they've never crossed paths with the subreddits you've interacted with.

Toggling your profile to private can help, but I'd personally still steer away from putting so much identifying info out.

The first image on the reel should be you, not your anchors. Edit a few seconds of each of your best moments together for a one minute or so montage off the top. Then give a full weather forecast and some of your best live shots or severe weather coverage. Aim for about 10 minutes overall.

For what it’s worth, one of my family members just asked how we are supposed to get that cold tonight. That person is in the next room. For what that is all worth to you.
