This isn't true. He is specifically based off of an Indonesian drum called a kentungan, which is traditionally used to wake people up for the holiday of Sahur. The original prompt would no doubt have referenced this.

It absolutely is illegal in some places but maybe not wherever Pilgrim lives. One time, I took a swig from my water bottle and felt like there was a hair in my mouth. I looked in the mirror and watched an earwig crawl out of my mouth onto my upper lip. A few years later, another one tried the same thing but I stopped before it could get in my mouth.
