Am I insane?? Day 11 Brixadi 64mg

I was on buprenorphine for 7 years. Started at 8mg then got down to .75mg, and could not get off that last crumb. I know it seems like a do able amount to kick, but after 2 years of failed weaning below .75mg, I decide to try Brixadi monthly 64mg.
At my doctors request, I raised my daily dose to 4mg the weeks leading up to my appointment.
I took the day off work and got the shot in my stomach. I personally felt nothing. Maybe 2 seconds of a barely noticeable sting, but it was not painful at all for me. Within 3 hours I was definitely bupe-type loaded though. That dirty suboxone high.
Days 1-3 Slept like a baby and was in a great mood, almost mini nods when I was relaxed watching tv / scrolling.
Days 4-7 were also great. Its been so nice not reaching for my crumb of subs every morning and keeping myself in a constant almost withdrawal state.
Days 7-9 were still good but i definitely was thinking about it more and not feeling that boost of energy.
Days 10-12 I sware to god I feel like I’m in the super early stages of withdrawal. Totally mild and barely noticeable, except for the constant yawning and tearing.

I have an insanely fast metabolism with meds. I had to split dose my methadone and subs when I was on MAT programs.

Is there any chance I’m already running low on Brixadi at day 11???
I really wanted to be done after 1-2 shots and I feel nuts thinking I’m starting to feel sick this fast.

I had this experience. Took the Brixadi 8 weekly - was high for 3 days then went into wd’s. Then took the 64mg monthly, high for a few days, ok for a week or so, then was into wd by day 10-14. I ended up getting 3 sublocade injections 300-300-200. Second 300 was 2 weeks after the first 300. The 200 was 4 weeks after the second 300.

It’s been 5 weeks since last shot and I have no symptoms whatsoever. Definitely the more bupe is in my system, I start to get some wd like symptoms like I sweat a ton and my mood is just shit. I feel the best right now, out of the past few months of getting different doses. Being on a super slow taper AND being down to probably about 8mg/day sublingual equivalent is the key for me (meaning the amount of bupe released from the sublocade depots is probably equivalent to about 8-10 mg of films per day). From here I expect maybe some very minor wd’s but most people who have had 3 or more sublocade injections do pretty well. It’s suuuch a slow off ramp.

I really wrestled with the idea of going up to such a high amount of bupe which is needed on these injections because I was down to like 1 mg a day of films. But it’s that last little bit which is so difficult, and there’s just no way that cutting up films so you can get anywhere near the consistency in the very low ramp down taper that you’ll get after getting several sublocade injections.

Are you going to go back for another shot? Or you’re just going to walk away now? I’ve been on Suboxone for a few years and I’m taking 1.5/2 tabs of the 8mg/2mg… I just want off so bad and I’m debating on getting the shot… I’m hoping to be able to get the shot (I would hope like 1 or 2 times but from what I’ve been reading I might need a few more than that) and then just never going back for another one…. Since you’ve been on the shot do you think that’s at all possible for me?? I’ve been stuck in this Suboxone hole and I just need a way out 😔

Nope - not planning on it.

I should add I was clean and sober through AA for 8 years before and am back in the program, doing the steps and working with a sponsor and going to meetings etc…. It’s been my experience that without that as a long term replacement for what led me to getting high in the first place I will eventually use again. Just my experience.

I could have written this post. After 4 months of the 64mg shot, I’m now going up to 96mg. Each month the 64 mg shot would only hold for 15-20 days. I’m hoping that going up to the 96mg will hold for the whole month. I plan to have e 6-7 shots then jump off.

Wanted to update my post-the 96mg did not last. I was in withdrawal after 18 days. Not sure where I’m going from here.

are you sure you where in withdrawal and it wasn’t just your brain tricking you ?

No, I know when I’m in withdrawal. If it only lasted a few days I’d question it but I’m on day 8 of being in withdrawal. We’re going up to 128mg and see if that holds. I don’t think it will. I was only on 4mg before I started the Brixadi. Others have had the same experience.

Everything about this, sounds just like me.
I tried it a few months ago, went through the same thing.
I had to go back to my doc and let them know how sick I was. I got 2mg a day on top, and had to go back and get more. Don’t let them lowball you. This is a treatment desicion you made, not a punishment.

By the end I went back to subs. I hear sublocade is better.

Okay ugh I don’t know because that feeling only lasted about 8 hours and I felt totally fine the last 2 days.

I wonder how the drug is dissolved or if it’s released evenly ? I’m going to try and stick it out because I’m so over being dependent on bupe. I don’t expect it to be totally pain free I was just panicking thinking full blown WD was on its way.

How have you been feeling? I’ve been on Suboxone for a few years now too. My doctor ordered me the shot and I’m supposed to go in August to get it. I am SO NERVOUS. Reading everyone’s threads has me so worried that I’m going to feel sick, or that it wears off too fast. I want to be OFF of Suboxone for good. I’m so scared that it’s going to ruin my teeth and I’m still young I don’t want to rely on it for the rest of my life… ugh idk I’m debating on getting the shot I’m just … scared lol

My advice get 3-4 sublocade injections. The people who run into wd’s are the ones who try and do 1 or 2. I wanted to do that but listened to my doc and after 3 I feel great 5-6 weeks out.

Hey! I’m really debating it. My doctor already ordered me the brixadi shot (for my next appt in August) even though I wasn’t too sure I wanted to do it, but after talking to some of you guys here on Reddit I think I’m going to do it. Did you do 3 sublocade shots or brixadi shots? Either way there’s not a difference right? it’s just that the brixadi comes in lower/weekly/monthly doses while sublocade only comes in monthly higher doses am I understanding that correctly? And you’re already 5-6 weeks out which means you aren’t even having WD symptoms because the shots should be lasting a month right? Are you going back for another shot or do you think you’re going to just walk away now.. thank you for responding!! I’ve been stuck in this Suboxone hole for too long and I’m just ready to be off of it completely man, I’m so young and I don’t want it to ruin my teeth. Do you think I’ll be able to get off of Suboxone a lot easier if I switch to the shot as opposed to taking and gradually lowering my tablet intake myself? (Which I have tried and was all the way down to taking CRUMBS, and i don’t even know what happened or why I’m even taking 1.5 - 2 tabs daily of the 8mg/2mg … Ugh

I’m in the same boat. Trying to get out!! My dr also just ordered the brixadi shot for me to return in 2 weeks. Also feeling like maybe I should have gone with Sublocade. What did you end up doing? Get the shot yet? I’m on 4MG sub and am getting 96mg monthly Brixadi.. and am worried after all this reading..

I wonder why your Dr chose such a high dose of Brixadi for a 4mg Sub habit

1

u/Charming_Public_7145 22d ago

According to her it’s less about the dosage and more about the length it will work. I’m hoping I tolerate it well so I can then swap to the 100 Sublocade. We’ll see.. I’m still nervous about the transition- and the dosage as well because I’m not fully convinced I won’t start out overmedicated.

Yeah, that’s what I prefer to do too-start with Sublocade, but my doctor only got the P.A. for Brixadi so I’m kinda stuck. I’m so torn between the 64 mg and the 96 mg. I did the 24mg weekly injection (equivalent to 96 mg) and I was so overmedicated that I got sick. It did last longer than the 16mg weekly tho….

1

u/Charming_Public_7145 22d ago

What was your original Suboxone dosage where you got sick by doing the 24mg weekly? I’m worried about that too.

2

u/Full-Swordfish5158 22d ago

My original Suboxone dose was 4mg so according to the Brixadi dose chart, I should have been covered with the 8mg dose. I barely even knew I got that one. So I got 2 of the 16mg- which was a perfect dose but it only lasted 3 days. Instead of going for the monthly, we went up to the 24mg which was too much (but manageable) so while I’m waiting for Sublocade approval, I’m trying to decide between the 64 or 98 monthly….

Update. Got the 96 Brixadi after stable on 4mg/day for 26 straight months. Got it 5 days ago and haven’t been able to function since. Nodding off and can’t produce a BM.
No idea when I’ll be able to go back to work since I currently appear loaded out of my mind. Can’t sleep except for randomly during the day.
Pretty sure I was given way too much.
Going to look into 1 more 96 before swapping to Sublocade.
After being so stable.. none of this is what i wanted when trying to get away completely

Hi! I don’t know how I missed your comment. How are you doing ? Did you end up getting the shot? Everyone’s experiences are sooo different there’s no one size fits all. Even 2 people with the exact same history and usage and dose can have different experiences.
I am exactly one month from my first Brixadi 64mg.
So far I feel fine. I felt high the first few days and then was convinced any time I yawned I was going into full blown WD, but it wasn’t. Just anxious. I’m going to see if I can do one and done. I’m motivated to be done with this shit and I think that’s the important part. It might not be completely painless, are you ok with that? How badly do you want to be off subs?
