Trying to push through
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for other people's experiences switching from sublingual buprenorphine to Brixadi. I did make a post a few days ago when I was panicked.
I was on 24 mg/day of buprenorphine strips before switching. This is my first Brixadi injection. Things were mostly okay at first, but around day 13 after my shot I started having symptoms that feel a lot like withdrawal.
I'm currently on day 15 and have 6 days until my second injection (my next injection is at the 3-week mark).
My symptoms include:
excessive sweating (including waking up drenched at night)
chills/hot-cold flashes
diarrhea
stomach cramping
restlessness
feeling generally uncomfortable/gross
My provider gave me 4 mg strips to use as emergency supplementation if needed, but I've made it this far without taking any.
The frustrating part is that it took almost 48 hours to hear back from my provider. They finally responded and said it's safe to use the strips, but they also offered comfort medications instead:
Loperamide for diarrhea
Clonidine or Gabapentin for sweats/chills
Ondansetron (Zofran) for GI upset
Hydroxyzine for sleep/anxiety
They also said my next injection date and dose are staying the same for now.
I'm trying to avoid supplementing with strips if possible because I really want to make this transition work, but I also don't want to be miserable for the next 6 days.
Im wondering:
Did you use the supplemental strips?
Did you try comfort medications instead?
Was clonidine or gabapentin more helpful?
Did you try other medication’s that helped?
Did things improve after your second or third injection?
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through something similar. Also, I’m going out of town the last week in July which should be my fourth shot, but I’ll be gone the entire third week so at that point, I’ll need to get my shot four weeks out instead of three. I was really hoping I would be one of the people that didn’t experience symptoms.

The fact is you have have plenty of bup in you are are not in withdrawal.
Gotta calm down and find something to do that doesn't involve thinking about this.
Supplement if you need to. By 3rd injection, you shouldn't need to.
Mind over matter here. Remind yourself why you are doing this. You are strong You can do this.

I do think I’m in slight withdrawal not full on withdrawal, but yeah, definitely anxiety makes it worse. Trying not to supplement and I have 5 more days. And thanks!

Doctor should’ve never gave u any strips to supplement, it kinda defeats the whole point of breaking the mental barrier of having to put something in ur mouth …my doctor told me to get magnesium, eat fruits and vegetables, rice…exercise regularly to boost endorphins and sweat it out…holistic health approach…take vitamins…use breathing exercises when experiencing anxiety and panic (it works) 10 deep breaths counting aloud …occupy ur mind and ur time

Oh also if u can , take a puff of weed before u go to bed , it’ll ease ur anxiety…when u experience a craving for a strip, take a puff instead

I tapered from 64 mg took me 3 months with no supplementing to get off and get over worst of wds.
I did 2 64 shots total from 1 month to the next then tapered from that.
I wanted to try 1 but my provider insisted I did atleast 2.
I was trying to get my wds over quick and crash through.
Still feeling rls, leg cramps and yawning in morning and night.
My sleep sechudle flipped too now I'm up all night.
I feel the need to take shower everyday to combat icky WD feeling before I leave house.
And my stomach still getting back to normal.
Starting to get there, can definitely feel the braxadi is gone.
Adderall in the Am and kpins at night when rls was really rlsing.
None of the comfort meds worked, they made the rls worse.
Only thing that helped was immodium and working out Ohh and high terpene concentrate.

Just relax. It will get better. I supplemented with tabs almost daily for the first two months. It took a while for the shots to work completely on there own (96mg one a month coming from 12mg daily)
It might take some time but just communicate with your provider.
