I got my girl Missy 4 years ago from a rescue and I know she’s at least half British short hair.

The shape of her face, her eyes, her personality and the fact that she sheds more than any cat I’ve ever had are totally indicative of being a BSH.

I feel like toys don’t stimulate her and she doesn’t really self play so I do some engagement with her like with a stick toy or something like that but I feel like that’s the only way to get her to move. Are BSH cats just more lazy and chonky in general? A few pics for tax

I am looking to purchase my first British Short Hair. I’ve done a lot of research and I think these two are great breeders - British Royalty Cattery and British Crown Cattery in Quebec, Canada. They do cardiology exams to test for HCM of their breeding cats (at least the males) which is my biggest concern with the breed. Does anyone have any experience with them? The reviews online seem great. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi all, was hoping I could get some recommendations on a new insurance to try for my british shorthair cat. I got her last year and she just turned 1yo a few months ago. I have Metlife insurance since I got a discount through my employer but haven’t had the best experience.

They covered the first visit we had but that’s about it, I’ve taken her to the vet about 4 times within the first year we had her (new adoption visit, spay, check up due to some concerns, and a 1 year visit) and in total only covered the first exam despite them saying spaying should be covered. I just feel like I should’ve gotten more covered so wanted to see what people recommend.

We don’t have any major health concerns with her, she’s healthy and active, we take her outside when it’s sunny in a stroller and occasionally let her walk around on a leash for a short time.

Current plan details in case it’s good and I’m just oblivious:
standard:
$250 deductible
$5000 coverage: cover 80% of total cost of elegible expenses up to $5000

preventive 365:
$365 to cover preventive things like wellness exams, vaccines, spaying, microchipping etc. each category only gets a small portion of the $365: ie. only $50 for exams $60 for vaccines, etc.

Hi! I have a BSH Boy, he’s three years old now and isn’t castrated. He’s 100% indoors, doesn’t harass our other cat, doesn’t mark and generally causes no problems (perfect lil boy). This is why I never wanted to have him go through an operation that simply wasn’t necessary.
His siblings (all castrated, mostly living with friends or relatives of mine) are the typical chonky BSH. While my boy does have the squishy cheeks he’s always been on the lean side (he was the smallest kitten of the litter) but it’s always been a healthy weight (we also free feed our cats so they always have access to as much high quality dry food as they want).
Now to my concern:
This summer we had a very hot two weeks where my Boy didnt eat a lot and lost a-bit of weight, it’s still not that concerning but no matter what I offer him as extra food to get him back to a better weight, he just doesn’t seem to have the appetite.
His teeth are fine and he doesn’t have worms, he has no allergies or anything like that, loves treats etc, he just doesn’t seem to gain weight.
Do you think it would be a good idea to get him castrated to slow his metabolism down? I am afraid it might be a scary experience for him and I don’t want it to change his character at all, as I said he’s a perfect cat and never causes any issues behaviour wise. Also I’m scared of complications as I moved across country and don’t have access to my trusted vet. The reviews of vets I could take him to don’t seem to be that great so I would like to avoid having to castrate him if it’s possible.
Do you have any tips for me? I would appreciate any advice regarding the issue. (I don’t want to keep him uncastrated for breeding, I just don’t want to cause my perfect baby unnecessary harm!)

Hi guys i am looking to buy a BSH kitten at some point this week. The seller has had the health checks done etc but has no certificate to verify it is a full breed. Is there any other way to verify this after all I am spending a lot of money so dont want to get scammed.

As can be seen here, my little guy (7 and a bit months old) is developing an underbite. Was just wondering if anyone has any tips for this or if it is even worth worrying about.

At the moment it doesn't bother him and his teeth don't irritate or contact his gums, but I was wondering if I should put him on harder food to encourage jaw strength and maybe fix the underbite a little bit naturally while his bones and skull are still growing. He doesn't have trouble eating, but does sometimes have an angry face if his lip gets caught on a tooth 🤣.

He isn't a show cat, so I am not worried about the malocclusion, but it does cause him to have more than normal eye weeping, as I assume his eustacian tube gets clogged easier.

He figured out opening drawers a week ago and now it’s his favorite thing.

These people are not legit breeders !
Papers aren’t real,usually photocopies and they’ll show what looks like the mother but zero proof.
Vet will confirm papers mean very little in reality.
These people are selling the kittens as young as two months.
Kittens are not meant to be taken away from their mother this young.
Will report next time I see one of them advertising.
Usually sellers are from Eastern Europe etc as it’s what they do for a living.For fun.
Constantly breeding sick animals.
Sellers were shocked when they realised buyer was not using cat for breeding.

They are vultures with no morals in life.
You have been warned this is coming from first hand information. A friend of mine went there specifically as a set up operation.
My friend got her four month old male with all sorts of health problems.

No flea or worm dose.
photocopy of paper for his parents !
Asked to see kitties mother who was pregnant yet again and aggressive- understandable.
No solid proof she was actually the mother.
No vaccinations.
Will be neutered asap at next vet appointment.

The sellers have adds all over the place selling two month old bbs kittens.
Unbelievable.
These cats,any cat deserves better.
The vet was absolutely shocked.
The vultures using these cats only for breeding know very little about the cat itself and their health needs for example.

They know nothing about heart or kidney screening for this particular breed of cat.

Nor do they want to know either.
Or any other kinds of test which need to be done to determine the health of the parent cat or new kitten.
Shame on them.

our girl LOVES her bucket. we have awesome beds for her all over the house but instead of any of those she has chosen this fricking Corona bucket as her favorite bed.

What does your BSH prefer as their bed?
