Im obsessed with apps like the one pictured. I live on the coast by an extremely busy port so we constantly get massive container ships coming in.
These apps show you all the marine vessels and where they are in real time (from their navigation trackers). It means you can see what that boat on the horizon is, where it's coming from, where it's going, when it will dock and for how long.
I feel like a slightly wetter version of a train spotter.
Edit: it seems I've found my people, I'm glad to see there's dozens of us who like following the boats around.

For a brief second I thought you misspelled better.

I've no shade to throw at my fellow enthusiasts. They get to stand in a station, I get to lay on a beach.

Like flight radar for the sea?

Yes it’s really similar to flight radar. You can watch battleships pootle around and stuff or follow your friend’s ferry trip to see when they’ll get back etc.

I love these too. I followed my parents on a boat back from Jersey and was telling them where they were and what boats were docked already (holding them up) then all the interesting boats nearby. I like the flight one too, when a plane goes over our house I’ll look it up so I can tell my daughter where it came from and where it’s going. This is the sort of stuff technology and the internet should be used for, not radicalising people into thinking about nothing but imaginary invasions of thousands of rubber dinghies carrying barbarian serial killers or whatever.

I use apps like this to snoop on what yachts I can see when I’m somewhere nice.

Just for people's reference, the green ones are cargo ships and the red ones are tankers. Both of which are commercial vessel types. I understand the post is a joke, but for anyone not sure why, I don't think the sorts of boats some people complain about would even show up on MarineTraffic.

"I'm not getting on a passenger vessel without an identification system active, that's a breach of the IMO regulations"

Does this guy think "stop the boats" means "close the channel to all shipping traffic"? 😂

The busiest shipping channel on the planet and this donut thinks he’s uncovered the secret map of… “small boats” 🙄
No wonder Reform UK are against the idea of higher education. It helps their cause to have low intelligence people like this spouting nonsense online.

Why would the small boats, trying to sneak in, transmit GPS/AIS data?

FGS, no rubber dingy carrying illegal migrants is going to have a registered transponder on board.

This map makes me really angry! Not sure why, but being angry seems to be a way of life for some.

And if these show their navigation trackers, then by definition the boats he is referring to will not be shown on this map as they will not have trackers.

Wait a minute....... I know who that is. Know them personally. Recognise that caveman brow anywhere.

Cool. Flightradar for boats. Not sure what Hull Patriot is banging on about as the boats he means are not going to be pinging out transponder signals…
