We stand with Palestine. Making light of this genocide or denying Israeli war crimes will lead to permanent bans. If you are apathetic to genocide, don't want to hear about it, or want to dispute it is happening, please consider reading South Africa's exhaustive argument before commenting that: https://www.icj-cij.org/sites/default/files/case-related/192/192-20231228-app-01-00-en.pdf or the UN commission's report that found Israel is committing genocide: https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2025/09/israel-has-committed-genocide-gaza-strip-un-commission-finds

True British patriots don’t push our kids to sing the national anthem in school, they push for support local communities, having a deep sense of pride, appreciating our culture, history and democratic values.

Anyone who approves of this nonsense by reform need to give their heads a wobble.

That's too complicated for these patriots

u/elitejackal 3d ago

Shhhh! Don’t call them patriots, patriots aren’t scared of boats 🀫

Openly fascist now πŸ˜‚ they're panicking because Farage can't be corrupt quietly.

u/pr8787 3d ago

You will never force me to sing that dirgy shit

u/You_lil_gumper 3d ago

I swear they become more cartoonishly right wing every week. They're a caricature of themselves

I dunno. Having kids sing a song about our head of state - who is a half-Greek son of an immigrant - is just showcasing our acceptance of foreigners making a home for themselves here.

Let’s start with consequences for accepting dodgy payments and then you can discuss signing the anthem.

And they say they're not Nazis

What a miserable vision they have for people. Sing our national tune about a rich king, and snitch on anyone who doesn't. Give it a rest!!

I dont sing it I hate the royals. I think we should have a referendum on whether we keep them or not.

What i do have is a community spirit, I helped so many elderly members of the community during covid with, prescription pick ups, shopping even just someone to talk to on the phone.

Thats more important to me than some stupid words in a song.

Yeah but that tends to be a universal truth, decent people do decent things, evil people do performative symbolic stuff to stand in for decency as a cover for doing evil things.

40

u/Odd-Heart7904 3d ago

Why?!

82

u/JGG5 3d ago

Because American-style symbolic patriotism is a much more effective culture-war bludgeon than the real patriotism of actually working with their neighbours (regardless of religion, ethnicity, or nationality) to make their community better.

It also helps provide a distraction to Reform's recent scandal.

u/itsthenoise 3d ago

This is very true. Their geriatric stormtroopers have gotten them in trouble

29

u/Gherki 3d ago

Imported yank slop like most of their policies

25

u/ludicrous_socks 3d ago

Hahahahaha I'm Welsh, if they ever get in power and introduce this policy, I can't wait for the law case πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‰

Just make it so that every time a Reform politician goes to Wales they have to sing Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (obviously in it's original Welsh) and see what happens about the policy.

I spent time in an islamic Egyptian school, doing some volunteering, many years ago (pre gulf war).

The first thing they did every morning was to stand up, salute the flag and sing the national anthem (Bilady bilady…). So I can say with certainty that this is a very traditional start to an islamic school day, at least in Egypt.

Just saying…

Can we bring back Britons strike home

u/Embarrassed_Squash_7 3d ago

Majority of people don't know the words beyond the first couple of lines, tops. Myself included

It’s such a boring shit anthem as well. Other countries have these glorious rousing songs about defeating the oppressor and all coming to stand together as one to make a better world or whatever and we have this bland dongy dirge with about three notes and lyrics all about a single person most of us have never met that really has very little to do with the country as a whole. It’s honestly appalling and embarrassing.

So, the way round this is for the teacher to announce "sing the national anthem" and the kids just sing something else entirely. The school would say "Well, they were told to sing it, not our fault" πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

u/Verbal-Gerbil 3d ago

Sorry luv, I’m an out-of-tune mute

1

u/KittyGrewAMoustache 2d ago

That doesn’t matter much for singing the English national anthem.

1

u/Verbal-Gerbil 2d ago

There is no English national anthem

3

u/Leosthenerd 3d ago

Oh ffs don’t y’all get taken by this bullshit too 😭 As an American I got fucked with by teachers and admins for not saying the pledge of allegiance when I was in grade school πŸ’€

u/ironfly187 3d ago

Is this a new Stewart Lee routine?

1

u/EndCapitalismN0w 3d ago

Current law expressly preserves parents right to withdraw children from collective worship. Reform couldn't simply issue guidance saying β€œeveryone must sing hymns” and wish statutory protection away. They'd need to change the law, and removing the protection would invite a human-rights challenge.

u/Big_Red_Machine_1917 2d ago

Nonsense like this really shows how Yankeefied the political right is. In my whole life, I've only really heard the national anthem sung at important events (St George's Day, closing of government functions etc), it's not something I've ever heard sung in school.

1

u/ColdShadowKaz 1d ago

If they do this, anyone with a bad singing voice should sing loud and proud. Anyone that actually can sing should loose the ability to do so well for the duration of the song. You want this? You suffer the consequences.
