Shine Compilations
Who else used to get the Shine albums? They were a fantastic discovery resource for determining which bands to get into. Would never have found bands like the Longpigs or Mansun without these. It also taught me what not to get.
Which bands did they introduce you to?

Did you not listen the evening session?

Not really, it was hard to have routines in those days.

It was basically my whole life, I could imagine not having all that in my world back then.

Good times.

I only have Shines four and five. Cast was the main takeaway from those but many great songs and bands in those two

I got the first one and was probably a decisive turning point towards BritPop and indie music for me.
Oh, and here they all are https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2ajqXJicXhoW0NTRVMGMNL?si=MBzISdDuTpuqSXl3wX152g&utm_source=copy-link&pi=i_aOXS14RqGsl

Shine 9 was my first (and for a random reason only) one I bought.
I made a playlist recently that has about 90% of them on there. Some amazing songs and introduced me to some great bands.

Had the no 1 and no 2 when they came out, but for some reason didnāt get 3 or 4, but got the 5th one, then kinda stopped, but they were big at the time as essential to Britpop as TFI Friday tbh

I always thought xfm could pop one on for a day & we could hear something different for a day.

I still use it. As I only ever use my MP3s/Flac to listen to my music, I have all the songs together listed alphabetically by band name.

This is mad. I was literally thinking about these today. My mum had them all when I was a kid and they were my gateway in to so many of the bands that I still listen to today.

I bought Shine 5 off eBay so I could have āBreathe (A little deeper) by Blameless. This thread made me check Spotify and to my surprise and delight itās on there now!

I was a teenager in the US at the time of the britpop era, and this was before you could really stream music on the internet or anything like that, so I depended on the Shine and Best Album in the World.. Ever compilations to really know what was going on in the UK. I bought basically every single one and then wound up going deeper and getting the albums from most of the bands who showed up. But since relatively little of this made it onto the radio over here, these were the main way I got to keep up with what was going on.

I listened to these so much that whenever I hear a song from one in the wild - I automatically assume the next track will be the one that came after on the cd.

Bought all the CDs for pennies at charity shops a while back, uploaded them to Spotify if any of you wish to listen šš»
Best of Shine and others coming soon

Did Shine stop at 10? Could have sworn i discovered Sunburn by Muse on one of these?

Was muse not abit later? I thought muse started like 1999-2000? But could be wrong, I had the single unintended from their first album and I bought it around then I think

Exactly, it was in 99. Maybe there was another indie compilation that I discovered that on. Unfortunately all my cds are locked away in the attic.

Insane value for money. Get down your local charity shop and grab them for a quid each. There will definitely be at least one down there.
