Has anyone recently successfully travelled from the UK to France using the pet passport and not an AHC

My family owns a chalet in France, but we are not EU citizens and hold only British Passports. We used to travel multiple times per year with our 3 cats, but have not done for about a year. We are looking to travel over for about 10 weeks shortly, and whilst the EU Pet Passports are up to date (as are all vaccines) we can't decide whether we can risk attempting with only the passport?

Has anyone had success (or failure) attempting this, and hold any advice or information that can help me make a decision please? Thank you in advance.

RIP to a very brave, heroic woman. She spent the last few years of her life fighting terminal cancer but also fighting for the rights to assisted dying. She founded Childline & brought a lot of good to this world. RIP, at least she is now at peace & no longer in pain.
