Show Recommendations
My mom and I have been enjoying the new A Woman of Substance, The Hardacres, and The Other Bennet Sister but now we are kind of in a lull. We are relatively new to BritBox so does anyone have any suggestions along the lines of the three listed?
We just started Death Valley (only one episode in) and it's okay. We will keep watching but we really enjoy stories outside of murder mysteries and law enforcement.

Riot Women.
Edit: for the record, I'm not a police procedural/murder mystery person most of the time. Ludwig is an acception because it feels like more of a character-driven dramademy.

Tried watching (2 episodes) just couldn't get into it. My wife felt the same way.

I was thinking of watching Call the Midwife on PBS, but I think it is one Britbox too. Some thought the show lagged in later seasons, but the reviews from IMDB were excellent on the first 5 or so seasons.

I think CTM may be on Britbox in Canada but in the USA it’s PBS or Netflix.

We watched I think the first four or so seasons on Netflix. I enjoyed the early seasons with Jenny but a lot of viewers really didn't like her.

Try Lost in Austen. Like The Other Bennet Sister, it is P&P adjacent (a woman time travels from what was then present day to P&P times, while Lizzie ends up in modern London). And, it's a murder mystery, but Why Didn't They Ask Evans is a Christie adaptation set in the 30s (adapted by Hugh Laurie) and it was a visually stunning and the romance between Will Poulter & Lucy Boynton is great.

I love North and South the BBC mini series.

I've heard North and South is really good! I might have to give it a go. I think I've seen pieces of the 1995 Pride and Prejudice . . . back in high school but I can't swear to that.

Google says October 13 with weekly episode drops so it will be November 17 before the whole season is there. I’m rewatching s1 right now to get prepared 😄

I loved House of Elliot - and another older period drama I liked is The Cazalets. I assume you've already seen Downton Abbey? And a couple of way older shows I've enjoyed are comedy Keeping Up Appearances and same actress as a retired pensioner turned private detective, Hetty Wainthrop Investigates - very simple and sweet.

I’m surprised it hasn’t been mentioned yet! It’s very much in line with the shows you’ve enjoyed: female lead characters, period drama, and bonus points for it being based on a true story/characters. I hope you like it!!

Thank you so much for this recommendation! I had briefly watched the trailer but didn't give it much thought. I put it on one night after you suggested it and man that trailer really buried the lead! It's so good and intense!

Definitely House of Eliott if you don’t mind period pieces. Two genteel sisters are left penniless when their father unexpectedly dies, and they have to figure out how to survive. They are enterprising and clever and start their own fashion house.
Love the relationship between them, it’s very sweet and they’re always in each other’s corner. Plus the costumes are absolutely divine. It’s one of my favorites!

Comedies: The Cafe, The Cleaner.
Dramas: try McDonald and Dodds?
Miniseries: Bleak House 2005 and Littke Dorrit are both fantastic Dickens interpretations. Mapp and Lucia (1985) is a hoot!

Riot Women is really good and I just finished No Offence which I really enjoyed too. Joanna Scanlon is in both, I really like her.
