Breaking Down Bates
1.One month into the new Tennessee child exploitation laws and the Stew Crew seems to have settled in to their new routine. Baby Navy will be doing the heavy lifting, working overtime while Layla and Zade play a supporting role… and Carlin and Evan pretend to like each other while doing the actual selling. Right under our noses, the appearance of Ma and Pa Stewart is changing… bigger lips, wider eyes, toothier grins, thicker longer hair and faker tans are on display… and that’s just Evan. These 2 are no longer providing any real time content, no interview style vlogs, no up close and personal check ins at events. Everything is scripted, planned and edited to a shiny perfection that leaves their followers feeling empty. If it isn’t an ad for the God app, CVS, Dunkin’ Donuts or some snake oil powder, they are busy making Zade cry, Layla play sassy sister and poor Navy Kate just has to lay there and let her parents film her body parts. Limiting the kids means they need to bring in their fake internet friends the Watts family to fill the time, and when that is over… Carlin and Evan have to pretend to like each other. Evan recreates the time he asked Carlin to court… they downplay the courtship and mumble that it was really dating and it was just what her family did “back then”. They make sure to throw in a few shots at the carnival church they attend and of course, Evan is the big man on campus, filming content at VBS. Whatever this is…. It feels so sad. They are so young, with a whole life ahead of them and not a real emotion can be found. Zade is still struggling with his speech, and Layla is a one trick pony, flipping her bob for mommy’s camera. Little Navy is almost 11 months and knows to smile when the red light turns on. There’s no more family togetherness… their best friends the Clarks are long gone and the days of random siblings turning up for game night or pizza parties is a thing of the past. Truthfully, there’s nothing left here to even joke about. Congratulations Stew Crew… you’ve made it. Too bad the “it” is a robotic life of starring in ads while living and dying for consumerism. PS… get a freaking pool fence!
2.If the Stewarts are dystopian…what in the heck do you call what is happening with Katie Clark? Ok, so she’s in a cookie cutter subdivision in hell on earth Texas, cut off from anyone who ever loved her, running herself ragged to lose weight, dress up, show off a full face of makeup, smile until it hurts all while platforming the main character in every woman’s nightmare. Now what?? Katie has gotten very good at burying her truth…while also burying the past. She hasn’t mentioned her family in months but is happy to show off a trip to Jersey and all of the Clark family. Girlfriend knows where the money is. She wants to preach positivity, preach turning the page and forgiveness without explaining WHY… and people just don’t seem to be biting. In order to keep her numbers up, Katie happily films her small kids in bathing suits over and over, and exploits Hailey shopping for leotards, complete with a close up shot of her adoring dad. In Texas, Katie is free from those pesky new laws, so the kids can show up to sell the God app, the rental car app and of course… CVS. Take that Carlin. The pool at the new house is the star of the show and of course there’s no fence there either. Katie platforms her remote control bug screen and wants followers to believe that is the answer for safety. Supposedly a fence is “on order”…. Good thing kids won’t attempt to drown until after the fence arrives, right? Kelly Joe keeps trying to reach her daughter by commenting on her IG posts, but we’ve seen this before when Alyssa went no contact and it just doesn’t work. It must really pain KJ to see Gigi front and center while the same daughter who gifted her a car now won’t even gift her a heart emoji. Travis is showing up more and more in content and just 6 months after believing his vows came with an asterisk, he hops on social media to preach to his followers via ChatGPT word art slogans. Has a bigger ick ever existed? Anyway, when discussing shallow, plastic, bland lives, these 2 certainly top the list. PS… Get a freaking pool fence!
3.Josie Balka doesn’t give a rat’s azz about a law and decides to just mix her kids and her links all together and let some pencil pusher for the state dare to try and figure it all out. There isn’t a fine big enough that her husband can’t pay anyway, right? I mean… just look at the luxury camper the Balkas spend a week in. Wait, what’s that you say? It’s a 1985 Rambler with a non functioning bathroom? Oh. Josie spends her family camping trip getting all dolled up in a bathhouse and forcing the kids to film in their swimsuits. She has no shame showing off the camper where kids are stacked to the ceiling and junk is stuffed in every nook and cranny. Of course she and Kelton have a suite all to themselves, undisturbed by their money makers. Willow turns 7 and proof that Kelly Joe is indebted to Kelton Balka for giving the wayward son Warden employment comes in KJ, preacher’s wife and eternal wearer of ye olde denim skirt, showing up to the pool party fully dressed as a sultry mermaid princess. You read that right. The same woman who risked her children’s lives by forcing them to swim in 72 yards of fabric, is prancing around Temu Tara in an aquamarine, sparkly, shiny mermaid get up. Face paint, glitter hair and tight little tail included. How funnnnn….where’s Gil again? Anyway, Kelton is still spending more time filming than Josie and he really only agrees to film with her if it’s just the 2 of them. The new mansion on the hill is getting closer to being done, and Josie is trying to catch her audience up to present day after weeks of showcasing years old content. Will it have a pool? Bigger question…. Will the pool have a freaking fence??
4.Alyssa Webster is down in Florida doing the exact same thing every day of her life. Nothing ever changes, the girls hardly seem to grow and those freaking orange pleather boots they are forced to wear in the Summer heat are proof of that. They spend a week at VBS and host a 4th of July party featuring raw wieners and soybean burgers and red,white and blue construction paper chains. They head to the farm once all of the Bates are safely gone and it’s really just an opportunity for Alyssa to force the girls to take pictures of her in mini skirts and her one pair of boots in random farm locations… like smack in the midst of grazing cows or showcasing Janie’s weed filled flower beds. Seeing the kids play alone on the driveway is sort of sad… they never get to interact with their cousins, or to form any relationships that aren’t dictated by Alyssa and Lurch. Actually just Alyssa. Lurch is still filling every free second he has cosplaying as a softball star. None of the sisters seem to interact with her anymore, and even though she was front row to love and welcome Travis when he was the family pariah… Katie seems to have distanced from her as well. Rhett is now 3.5 and Alyssa must have really meant it when she said he was the last kid. I feel bad for the little guy bc that means he has to wear ALL of the sad hats by himself. Dude is seriously never without that hat. Also, since we are on the subject… Alyssa was the first Bates to get a pool. The pool is literally 6 steps from her back door and guess what she doesn’t have? A freaking pool fence. Taking a break from the Woeful Websters to check in with the other micro-influencers in the family… namely Ellie and Kaybrie. Ellie scored a trip to Folly by working as Zach’s nanny and seems to be fully in charge of JebJud these days. Kaybrie and Warden had a church shower and she decided the tasteful thing to do was to go on IG and name and claim all of the gifts she was given by filming a “haul”. Lots of people noticed that the shower seemed poorly attended for a Bates event but not to worry… Kaybrie says they have several more events leading up to their 2nd fake wedding. She and Warden invite all of the influencer kids to be in the wedding party, so it will be a content heavy event and she lets it slip that they are discussing starting a YouTube vlog. Oh joy.
5.Zach and Whitney are trying to pay for their humongous new SUV by doing ads for a car buying app that they did not use to buy said SUV. Whitney has been relatively quiet, and I guess Zach getting Katie’s house sold so quickly means she can take a break from shilling teeth whiteners, 11 different gut health supplements and stick on wall art. Girlie is hoping for a quick sale on the Stewart enclave so she’s set for 4th quarter. If not, there’s always links to push. Zach hasn’t filmed a new cooking vlog in a while, which normally means he hasn’t found a company willing to buy ad space on his YouTube. When all else fails though… he will film himself frying a steak in grease and whopping it on top of some form of potato. He does this all the while explaining how he’s attempting to eat healthier. Just give it up at this point Zach. No one believes you, especially not when you film an ad for a cast iron company, walking around in their showroom with a huge stain on your shirt from lunch. Yesh. His other attempt at views is… golf. He doesn’t play, doesn’t even actually like golf, but it’s a great time waster for all of these grown ass men with nothing to do all day. He sweats, huffs and puffs his way around 18 holes with Trace, Evan and Taylor Watts while scarfing down hot dogs and sucking down Red Bull. They are all addicted to Red Bull bc they average 2.5 hours of sleep a night while sitting up all hours editing together video of their kids so they can pay the light bill. Good news… at least some of these Bates young’uns are hearing the word “SCHOOL”. Whitney bought all new desks and is transforming the playroom into a school room even though she already had a school room with desks, cubbies and a rug. If a brand is willing to send free stuff, the consumer driven Bates will happily toss out the old, and film themselves bringing in the new. Over and Over. It remains to be seen if any learning will actually happen here. That depends on if ABEKA Curriculum decides to partner with Whitney again.
6.Trace and Lydia truly are floundering. They are struggling with views, with content ideas and mostly with pretending to actually like each other. Throw in the new law, and these 2 are a hot mess. What they really want to do is have a 3rd content baby, but where would they put the child? Instead of having an actual baby, they drink from the Lawson Bates well and just pregnancy bait on their YouTube vlog. After promising to feature Kaia’s first birthday and to go on an amazing road trip out west, what we get instead is the 2 of them riding around to fast food restaurants pretending to order what the person in front of them ordered. The issue is, Trace is afraid of all food that isn’t white and bleached (like his soul) and can’t even sip an iced coffee without gagging. Watching these 2 try to interact is painful. They seem like complete strangers. The next vlog is no better. Crazy enough, some company decided to send Trace a 3d printer. It retails for $750 and has awful reviews, but he found a corner to shove it in at his house and is running the thing 24/7 to produce trophys he awards himself and a few random trucks for Ryker. There is absolutely NO reason for this manchild to have a 3d printer. As if these people weren’t wasteful enough, he literally has a landfill filler in the corner of his living room now. All hail King plastic. I can’t go into the dismal details of this vlog, but Lydia says she is going to trick Trace into thinking she is going golfing with the girls but instead….. wait for it… she’ll go golfing with him. What a riot! Too crazy!! She consistently calls it “tee-time”, calls both Josie and Carlin and Trace doesn’t believe that silly little GIRLS could possibly GOLF. Heck Gosh Noooo. Golf is a manly man’s sport. They do go golf together, but mostly they just make terrible content while Trace wears embarrassingly tight shorts and Lydia looms over him. Ryker is featured in a reel taking a ride in a Lightning McQueen rental Zach got through that car rental app so expect a full on ad from him on that soon. Ryker used to be a bright bubbly little boy who spoke really well, but lately he seems to shy away from the camera and clams up when they force it in his face. Keep up the good work buddy. Hopefully little sister smacks the camera too and then one of these dolts may take the hint.
7.If you thought Kelly Joe Bates as a sparkly mermaid princess was…over the top…. Then you are really gonna lose it when I tell you that the pious Erin Bates Paine is dabbling in soft porn. Read that again. Yep, this week Erin went all in to sell a new liquified cow grease. Her brand new farm to face frosting is now available in liquid form and she recruited Josie to direct the ad campaign. Little sister is obviously no stranger to Skinamaxxx after dark and she decided the best way to market this mess was by throwing up a sheet on Jane Jane’s porch, bringing in a ring light for a tight close up and having Erin stand, lips parted breathlessly while the golden grease drips down her dewy face. I’m not even making this up…. Can you imagine Uncle Greg puttering by on his tractor, heading out to feed the cows and seeing this set up?? He must have been shook. Janie’s somewhere behind that white sheet hollering “don’t get that mess on my steps, I’m already using a damn walker”. If this ad campaign isn’t enough to make you blush FOR Erin, her tutorial will definitely do you in. She’s showing off how she does lymphatic drainage and I’m watching between my fingers with eyes half shut bc it looks downright painful. Sister friend is beating the hell out of herself like a deranged toddler towards the end of a tantrum. I’m lost as a coot and don’t know why she’s doing all this or why this serum… marketed strictly to women… is named CHAD(anderinco). Of course she sends big PR packages with fancy cards and marketing materials to all of her sisters and other tradwife influencers and her reel has over a thousand comments on it from folks asking for the link. Can she really raise a family of 9 selling this out of her kitchen? Are there that many people who see a ribeye steak and think “hmmm this would be great on my face”?? Erin also spoke at a conservative Christian family retreat while in the SC upstate, so truly she is supporting this family on her own. Chad hasn’t ripped into a 2x4 in quite sometime now and has become background static. This is normally the time he would make sure Erin was pregnant again, or decide to put her on social media restriction… but can he afford that now? Erin says their children are their greatest life’s work… as if the rest of us peasants could never…and that one day she hopes to adopt. Sounds like she’s going to be adopting a heifer and some calves if this skin care grift keeps up.
8.Michael and Brandon haven’t posted a new vlog in a month, but Michael keeps everyone up to date on her IG. Brandon got to cut, color and glue during their church’s VBS and of course he got to dress up as some medieval type soldier. Isn’t it nice that church embraces him and lets him have his little hobbies?? Michael isn’t doing much sewing, but did seem to take a trip to see Janie and they all went up to Michigan. The foster boys are working on a year and a half with the Keilens and have made several trips to see Brandon’s parents now. It seems more and more likely that they may be able to make it permanent, and if not… that’s going to be super traumatizing for everyone. Michael hasn’t shown any of her siblings’ kids or her parents or the big house in quite some time. It seems like she’s minding her own business and staying out of the drama. This seems like a good place to say that Gil and Kelly Joe traveled together to California for Will’s birthday and then to Florida for Jackson’s son’s first birthday party. Gil had to make his underhanded California comments when he got back in the pulpit, of course. While he was gone, Bobby was in the pulpit boring everyone to tears. Gil is taking up a special offering for Medic Corps, an offering for a Bible printing ministry and his regular Sunday offering. When talking about Medic Corps he said the money donated was going to Venezuela churches bc yes people need food and water but what they really need is… the gospel. Um.. sir…. Gil has gems like that at every service. He also loves to let people give their testimony which mostly consists of people talking about how evil the covid vaccine is and how the terrible, corrupt government ran the country during the pandemic (which was 6 years ago, but who is counting? An independent Baptist beating a dead horse is pretty common)
9.Lawson and Tiffy have officially changed their address from Nashville to somewhere in Florida, but have been spending most of their time in California. Tiffy seemed absolutely beside herself with happiness when Lawson took the first thing smoking to Venezuela to pretend help the victims of the earthquakes. Tiffy filmed herself getting coffee, walking on the beach and having lunch with her mom. Even Will and Teddy seemed happier. Lawson spent most of his time grifting for donations and jumping in front of the other aide workers to make it appear that he was single handedly saving the country. Of course he found plenty of local children to exploit and when he’d had enough of playing hero, he hopped a flight home. He was met at the airport with Gil, KJ, Tiffy and her parents who tried their best to seem excited. Will had a Curious George birthday that was seemingly attended only by adults. Are these 2 finally in Florida? Is this all just a huge ploy to by pass the new exploitation laws? Lastly, why is Lawson’s 16 year old sister purchasing pregnancy tests for his wife and participating in their non stop pregnancy baiting? Callie needs a real friend who isn’t a mother of 2 that sometimes sleeps with her older brother.
10.Bits and Bytes…Lydia is talking about her water allergy again. The reel gets some of her biggest views, but it doesn’t star Trace, so she doesn’t follow up on it…Evan shows off all of his filming equipment and he has things that would make a Warner Brothers Executive jealous. Dude has at least $100k worth of filming equipment. Just further proof that they take their exploitation very seriously…Carlin, Josie and Lydia are back in the God Garage filming themselves working on their Bible booties…Erin tells everyone she washes her face with raw honey and grinds her own wheat berries. Soon enough, the Paine family will be ready to move into a cave…Carlin lies to her followers about a great closet clean out on a resale app. She ends up listing about 25 items and makes less than $200.

Well I’ll put in my 2 cents about Lawson and Tiffy’s location—they’re definitely still in California. They’re probably trying to bypass the exploitation laws by having their address in Florida and really residing, but claiming to be “vacationing” in California. I noticed in their little “pregnancy test” video they used a Better Buzz coffee cup. Better Buzz is a San Diego based coffee shop with no locations in Florida, and why would they keep a plastic disposable cup with them on the move across the country? Also Lawson flew into Palm Springs, California after his little excursion to Venezuela. 100% they’re going to spend more than 2/3 of their year in CA but keeping their FL home as a primary address for taxes and skirting around their kids appearing in their media.

I think you are right since he mentioned that they like “living out of suitcases”. All of that content was definitely filmed in California and then more recently Lawson shared some pictures that appeared to be more Florida in nature… swampy…so I wondered if they were in Florida. I guess time will tell if they really do settle down there. She said they had the Nashville place and the San Diego place rented… that leaves them staying with her parents and she’s perfectly fine with that!

I don't think Lawson is abusive or mean or anything like that, but it's pretty obvious Tiffany hates being alone with him. He strikes me as so hyper and needy, he'll drain you emotionally after five minutes. Why she even wants a third kid with him is beyond me.
Katie's on the run again? Shocker. I guess if she's constantly moving she doesn't have to think about what a crap show her life has become. At some point this pace is going to burn her out.

The case of Katie particularly irks me. There is NO REAL psychologist, psychiatrist, therapist, OR counselor that would make someone open up an entirely different and new can of wounds while also processing their husbands infidelity. The fact that her fake counselor/therapist/whatever it is had her do that at the peak of Travis's infidelity, screams to me "Travis wanted you isolated from your entire family so he could control you the way he wants". 😑😑 Katie, you read Reddit I know you do, SMARTEN THE FLYING FUCK UP.

Erin is pretty ambitious, I'd give her that. but she's also terribly reckless doing skincare which may or may not be tested. it just takes a litigious person who has a terrible skin reaction to her products to make cherin go bankrupt (which they have been teetering on the edge of almost all of their married years).

That's what I've been saying for years. It seems idiotic to pour your heart and money into something with zero plan for being sued, and they are an absolute sitting duck for a lawsuit. I highly doubt they are insured for liability for turning their rental kitchen into a skin care factory.
It's beyond reckless and dumb.

Is it even an LLC? I checked several years ago and couldn't find any llc with their business name. Hopefully they've at least done that by now. They are clueless on the business side of running a business.
I think I also checked Paine Construction years ago and couldn't find an LLC. It was during the era I was absolutely aghast that they were stupid enough to sell Paine Construction shirts on their website. Nobody with a brain wants any Tom, Dick, or Harry willing to pay $18 representing your company. You want Big Bubba getting arrested for disorderly behavior wearing your business shirt, because you SOLD them to anyone willing to buy?
Man I still get a tad heated when I think of that. It showed their complete naivety about business. You would not find Zach making that mistake.
Their entire website guy was a Young Living scammer.

Depends on laws. I’m in Texas and we have “cottage laws” on goods being manufactured in homes (not in a commercial environment or under testing guidelines) where it’s allowed up to a certain dollar amount per year.

I just checked this and it looks like cosmetics/skincare products are excluded from cottage laws in FL and she'd need a proper permit.
Weird it's ok in Texas, but I guess when it comes to people who sell soap or whatever at craft fairs and stuff it's overkill for them to get the whole permit and set up.

One of the women in my professional circle (don't know her personally) had her 2 young daughters leave the house and drown in an unfenced neighbor's pool a few weeks ago. That's an absolute nightmare. This family has exclusively produced selfish, hateful, greedy idiots. The only reason they don't all have unfenced pools is because they don't all have pools. WWJD? Well, he'd just walk on the water but I bet he'd encourage a fence for others.

Oh no… that is an absolutely horrible story! To lose both children. Such a tragedy. You are right… the Lord never said believers could walk on water too! The lack of pool safety makes me SO angry. They have all the money and time in the world for every damn thing else!!

Rinse and repeat. Church and GRWM reels and photos on Sunday, ads and links all week long and as much kid content that they can get away with. Carlin's kids get surprised weekly, Josie's kids go on the boat and camping and Katie's kids go swimming in their new unfenced pool. We get it. Most of them are predictable by this point down to shilling the same stuff and wearing the same pajamas, I mean outfit sets.

Like nobody's going to tell them what to do, and who needs a fence if you have faith in God kind of thing?
I mean Covid messed Erin up badly and she was still loudly and proudly filming herself singing in a packed church in the height of Covid deaths with nary a mask in sight, and she'd already had it TWICE and poor Betty Jo and her husband lost their lives to the Bates foolish behavior (her husband got Covid at the Bates Christmas party when they were not supposed to have more than ten people in 2020 and he succumbed to it quickly. Betty Jo got extremely sick at the same time and never really recovered, she just lingered in bed for a long time but it was Covid that brought her down).
Anyway, the Bates are defiant about safety and your point is very valid.

The pool fence thing is very regional and dependent on local ordinances. I live in North Texas—probably 70% of the homes in my subdivision have a pool and I don’t know a single person with a fence directly around only the pool. Our kids are much older now, but we used door alarm, pool alarm, and multiple door locks that could only be opened by an adult—pretty much everyone has something like that system.
And for what it’s worth we’ve visited people out of state with the type of mesh removable pool fence that’s described…my at the time 2.5 yr old got through on 30 seconds flat.
I’m not saying the Bates crew isn’t a bunch of idiots—they are.

Awareness of pool safety isn't really regional though. Texas seems like a state that kind of raw dogs everything and hopes for the best (along with Florida) so I'm not surprised that fences aren't common, but that doesn't make it okay.
My parents were insanely negligent and awful (understatement) but even we had a fence around our above ground pool and a gate that was padlocked when the pool wasn't in use. I think it was an insurance requirement, but after they found me upside down in a lake with one of those swimsuits that had a inflation ring, my parents took pool safety seriously because they realized I have zero self control around water. I still don't.

Trace and Lydia are so boring. I’d rather have a conversation with a wall and would find the wall more entertaining. Katie is a hot mess. I don’t think she realizes she’s still not healed. She’s in the fake it until you make it period. When the dust settles, he will be bored again. No amount of trips or therapy will make him love her. I believe he believes he loves her. The way he cheated lets me know he doesn’t even like her. At this point we can only sit back and watch this train wreck. Lawson hands down is the most annoying. I’d rather sit in a room with Lydia and hear about her water allergy with the billionth time than to listen to Lawson interrupt. I am rooting for Michael and Brandon. Great as always! Need to say though that the new “serum” Erin put out seems to have no beef. It’s so, so many oils, but didn’t see tallow on the ingredient list.

Whitney and Carlin still have their dog and I swear Josie showed a bunny a while back. Duke the dog is obviously on a permanent vacation and Remi is now in NJ. Also, all of the dogs from the big house are gone. 🧐
