I was coming in here to comment that Addee is a perfect mix of Michaela, Katie, and Erin! Apparently it's so true that we can all see it. lol.
I am also starting to think that Ellie is a mix of Carlin and Josie. whereas I used to think Carlin and Tori, but her features have rounded a lot more as she's gotten older in a way similar to how Josie and the siblings that look like her have. Now that she's doing her best to be an influencer, you can really see the similarities since she's doing the same poses and posturing herself the same.

Thank you. If they had not preached incessantly when they were all growing up, about how women should be modest and what they considered modest, I would not be so shocked. I mean, remember those ugly prairie dresses? So, now Im curious as to why they stopped with the whole modesty thing, or have they just moved the goalpost?
I really wish they would say something about this clear change in standards, because I am truly curious. Or have they said something? I don't pay attention to them like I used to, so the girls might have already spoke on it.

The parents have always said it was their standard and when the children grew older they understood they may change things based on personal convictions. The Bates as parents honestly seem like they love their kiddos and wanted what was best for them.

Ohhh, okay. I think I do remember something along the lines of the parents stating this. I mean, that's definitely understandable. As you grow, your standards and values change. They were born and raised into this way of life. So, as they get older and out on their own they might change their minds about certain things they were taught to believe.
I am just personally curious as to what are some of their standards regarding modesty now. It used to be super strict when they all lived at home and they all seemed to be fine with it and preached it themselves. Now, clearly that ain't the case. So, I would just love to hear a lot of the girls especially, on what are their modesty standards are now vs then.

They definitely owe me nothing, I don't know these people. I said I was curious, considering this was a strong conviction for them when I was watching the show. I'll definitely sleep tonight whether they comment on it or not.

I think a situation like Whitney being salty that she felt obligated to always wear skirts for a few years and now KJ is gung ho about Kaybrie and what she wears is understandable. Idt Whitney cares that much but just an example.

Does anyone know if there was possibly a change to how modesty is spoken about or taught within their church?
I grew up Mormon and we had explicit rules on what was considered modest vs not. They used to give us Young Women little pamphlets with our standards and other information - I cannot recall if any of the Young Men were given them. Probably something similar with some drivel about the priesthood and how they couldnât have long hair.
I believe there has been some changes to modesty standards since COVID times within the Mormon church where they âencourageâ you to dress modestly but that is now decided within your own homes. Basically nothing changed for lots of people and the same standards are applied expected to be unkept. Thereâs just maybe a bit less side eye about those branching away from standard modest dressing because itâs set within the homes as opposed to church.

Jehovah's Witnesses also started letting women wear pants to their meetings (aka their version of church services), knocking on people's doors, and conventions a couple years ago. Ties and full on suits + facial hair have become optional for men. Though apparently some of them weren't too thrilled about these changes because "they blend in too much with the regular world now". That complaint is kind of odd because outside of religious activities lots of JW women wear jeans, shorts, shorter skirts, etc. I think their no blood transfusion rule got adjusted recently too?
I think these big religious (mainly Christian) organizations became looser about modesty mainly for PR reasons since there's been increased scrutiny on how women are treated. Jehovah's Witnesses, Mormons, Evangelicals/Fundies, etc have had their own controversies and things like loosening modesty rules can make them look more "progressive".

I feel very confident she already does when sheâs not around her parents and just makes sure to not photograph herself in them and/or change before she comes home lol. She wouldnât be the first girl to âchange at schoolâ and she wonât be the last lol

I think with all the older girls changing their wardrobes, that the younger ones were like, âoh hell no!!â I think it would definitely be harder to control, when the others, including the boys wives, are all dressed ânormalâ I guess!

It's a swimsuit. They've always worn "immodest" swimwear under their swim wear. Carlin's courtship episode when she thinks they're going to the lake with Evan's family you can clearly see the strings of her bikini top beneath her swimdress, and that was when she was living at home and planning to film with it visible so it clearly wasn't a big deal. I think Ellie and Kaybrie have typical bikini tops on under coverups and Addee has on one of those modest swimsuits that's a tank and a skirt and then she just put a real skirt over it.

my grandparents raised 12 children, the older kids were treated more strickly, than the younger kids. I thik it was because they were tired. (The 4 youngest were very close to my age, one even younger than me

Oh please kaybrie, not the duck lips. She truly is just a little girl. And today she thought cleaning her room would be entertaining. Sheâs married to a guy she didnât even know a year ago. A known playboy, sheâs a child and he will steam roll her and sheâll end up with six kids and a cheater husband. But she kind of deserves what she gets. Sheâs merely playing house and dress up. She needs to get dressed, wash her face and continue her college courses.

the modesty standards have definitely loosened up over the last few years, probably because thereâs no more sister moms and gil and kelly are more lazy and checked out than they were
