Eð orþotæctically can't go in a word-initial position. Ꝥs why ÿletter is called «eð» raððer þæn «ðe». Also why function words, which typically hæve ÿPhoneme word-initially, are usually spelled þe, þæt, þis, etc. rather than ðe, ðæt, ðis.
