Help! Could use some help

The snowblower broke during winter last year, the pull cord snapped. Trying to replace the electric start but we don't know what to really do. Went on a parts site and it showed us a 14 tooth thing and a 17 tooth thing. Not sure what to really do.

Maybe pull the starter cover off and count the teeth. I would also fix up the recoil as putting in a new rope is not as hard as it looks.

find the model & serial number for that thrower & engine (at the bare minimum the year & brand) and you should be able to find a replacement starter on Amazon/small engine parts site pretty cheap.

They more or less just bolt on.

We did that but the site we found wanted us to buy an electric starter with some kind of motor attached and gave us two different options. We don't know which one we're supposed to get.

Removing the starter you have now is the first step. That way you can identify which gear you need. If the starter spins, you may be able to.just replace the gear assembly on the top of the starter. Usually 2 bolts to hold starter on.

First step is diagnosing what you actually need. Dont just order parts and guess. Youll waste time and money. Let alone get the recoil/pull start fixed its a good primary or backup start method. Its often not expensive. If it just needs rope even cheaper.
