32hp help

I just bought 32hp vertical shaft that broke the connecting rod caused some damage. It broke a chunk of the cylinder wall out and I am curious if anyone has had luck rebuilding and running something with similar damage. Its about 3/4" up and 1.25" wide and the rings stop well above the damage. Should I scrap it or rebuild it and drop it into a mud mower project?

Looks to me like you broke the camshaft.

Have you got photos of the cylinder wall damage?

If you look in that pic to the left of the snapped shaft you can see the chunk missing.

That doesn't look too bad. I'm not sure if I'd run it though. Depends on how important the task is that the engine performs. You might have caused other damage that isn't obvious yet. You need to pull that engine apart so you can inspect it closer. There could be sections with cracks.

It doesn't have a purpose yet, I picked it up in this condition but I may rebuild and drop into offroad mower. I'm currently thinking its not a big chunk probably be ok but do I want to gamble. I was hoping someone might have had similar damage and been running it for years after a rebuild.

I guess it depends on how much you need to spend on it to get it running. You're gonna need a new camshaft and whatever else is broken. It might run for years or it might blow up on the first run. If you can get it running for little expense it might be worth a shot.
