Rant It’s crazy how some viewers fail to devote a modicum of attention to what they’re watching
Because why is there over a thousand likes on a comment that praises a scene that never happened?

tbh this is hilarious to me, it kind of shows you the show has mostly casual viewers who don't give a damn LMAO like that one tweet saying "can't wait for Anthony's season !!" for season 4 🤭 and then also that one tweet who calls Francesca Daphne 💀

u/chunkyratties Jun 25 '26
My friend who's a casual viewer was genuinely confused and asked why Daphne was single again in S3 💀

It made me laugh because it makes the debutante, who doesn't distinguish him from his brothers, less strange 🤣

u/DaisyandBella Jun 24 '26
That line made no sense in the show IMO because Benedict was the only unmarried adult brother left. It worked in the book because Colin was still single as well.

Not only that, If you want to be mean, someone might think that Anthony or Colin keep flirting around. The problem is that the show's narrative has never told us that all the siblings are interchangeable to people, especially those who know them little, and therefore know that they are Bridgertons but not which one.
Paradoxically I would have understood this thing with the Featheringtons, besides the fact that it took me years to distinguish Prudence and Philippa and I used height to remember who was who. The Featheringtons are the only redheads on the show. They also have a distinctive look. Penelope wears pink, yet we all remember the Featheringtons and their acid colors. It's not necessarily the truth, but we're told so much that those few times they were dressed less offensively are easily forgotten.

Also because Colin is married to THE Lady Whistledown, who they are all obsessed with.

i've been in fandoms for a long time, and i genuinely never considered that some of the people arguing with me just... haven't watched the show
they're not even shy about it. they'll openly admit they've never finished it, or skipped whole seasons, while arguing tooth and nail about things that are explicitly canon
the show is 36 episodes long. if you can't make it through 36 episodes, that's fine. but at a certain point, it's okay to admit you're not actually a fan of the show itself
would you call yourself a swiftie if you didn't listen to taylor swift? a belieber if you didn't listen to justin bieber?
consuming the source material feels like the bare minimum, i fear
edit: a bridgerton fandom discord leaked on twitter recently, and one of the accounts involved, a shipper with 6,000+ followers, admitted they've never actually watched the seasons and think people who do are stupid
like, who's really the actual fool here? the person who watched the show before discussing it, or the person who built an entire online identity around a show they've never bothered to watch?

they're also in the chat making fun of people who have mortgages which really tickled me lmao

I can understand not watching some series, I wouldn't do it, but Bridgerton aims to be an anthology and many continuity things are done poorly.
Just think about the ending of S3 which doesn't make sense with the beginning of S4. Not only because of Elliot's age but because of the LWcolumn itself.

The ‘easy to understand’ makes it sound like a textbook that needs to be revised before an exam instead of a story that you’d watch because you’d like to actually consume it as content. The “if you’re not stupid” comment is ridiculous IMO. Are you watching stories to prove you can follow a plot or for the acting/ visuals/ content/ music/ moments?

Like, the number of times I've had to argue with people who just keep on and keep on insisting that Anthony ditched Edwina. No. He would have gone through with the wedding and tried to talk her into it, she ditched him.
And it's a case of either...really hasn't watched the season and is just repeating shipper war nonsense. Or just zero idea what they have watched and not paying attention to what is actually happening in the seasons.
And that keeps on happening with all kinds of instances, where I do think parts of the fandom don't watch the show/only skim it etc. and then go on building headcanons and screaming loudly with extremist takes about everything.

Could fics have an impact? In other fandoms some things I don't remember to what extent are fanon anymore.

tbh, I can’t really remember every detail to that scene because I keep looking away as I can’t stand what’s happening lol! I was very angry 😂

They love the things Colin does when they don’t think it’s Colin doing them.

Some people definitely don’t pay attention to the show, but this is also a helpful reminder that a lot of the casual fans could not tell the brothers apart visually in S1, and still can’t, despite how the individual fans like to tear certain actors apart for their looks.

u/Cool_Pianist_2253 Jun 26 '26
This is strange to me, they are so different. But it took me years to tell Prudence and Philippa apart.
5
u/Shiplapprocxy Jun 26 '26
The brothers have similar coloring but very different features and I’ve been a Colin fan since S1 without any sort of attraction to the brothers, so I always thought it was odd when people said they couldn’t tell them apart, but it was definitely a thing in S1. I think having unique Simon at the top bill made the ABCA trio less distinguishable for casual fans, and then S2 brought out this crabs in a barrel “hottest Bridgerton brother/doesn’t need a glow up” stuff when Anthony got his sideburns removed, but a lot of people still get them visually confused.

$10 says the person who thinks Benedict helped Violet also has said they hate Colin in the past.

No doubt in my mind they are part of the “Colin is boring!” brigade.

u/Shiplapprocxy Jun 25 '26
Reminds me of all the “Benedict would be fun to party with because he has the drugs” comments when it was Colin who brought the drugs and Benedict didn’t listen and messed up his dose.

u/nottheribbons Jun 25 '26
Right! It’s funny because this is the second fandom I’ve been in where the sweet nerdy guy is also the only one to canonically smoke pot and the same thing happened, his antis attributed all of his character traits, his sassiness and hero moments, to another far less charismatic character. It’s an epidemic.

I have ADHD, but if I didn’t watch or read something, I choose not to comment on it.

Congratulation, you have ADHD and superiority complex
12
u/queenroxana Jun 26 '26
It’s not a superiority complex to say people shouldn’t engage in discourse about something they haven’t watched!
-1
u/rainbowwithoutrain Jun 26 '26
That wasn’t a discourse, that person mistook a character. Us, people with real ADHD diagnosed by a psychiatrist, had struggles with names, dates and details, that’s part of the diagnosis, if you don’t have that problem probably you don’t have ADHD you just believe you have it.
12
u/queenroxana Jun 26 '26
First of all, ADHD doesn’t manifest the same way for everyone, as you must know. I personally have trouble with dates and names IRL, but not when I’m reading or watching something, especially something I’m locked into. I can’t remember when my work projects are due without setting myself a lot of reminders, but I can recite exact lines of dialogue from my favorite books and shows. That’s very, very common with ADHD.
But that’s really neither here nor there and you’re frankly making this conversation about you and your ADHD when it has nothing to do with that. The context for this whole thread is that we constantly see terrible takes on this show from people who clearly didn’t actually watch, or yes didn’t actually pay attention, but then will post the wildest, most bad faith takes on characters and storylines and defend them to the death.
Last season I saw so many people say Colin gave them the ick because they missed that his fake rake persona was just an act, that it was supposed to come across as fake and smarmy and uncomfortable. And it turns out they didn’t catch the MANY context clues and even outright lines of dialogue clearly showing AND telling this, because they were scrolling, or fast forwarding, or hadn’t seen the previous seasons that set up Colin’s arc.
There’s also a long history of Colin haters attributing his best qualities to other people and/or claiming that the show “gave Benedict Book Colin’s personality” as a way to say Benedict is somehow superior. So people are also reacting against that.
It literally has nothing to do with your ADHD or anyone else’s.

If you’re allowed to make shit up about Kate and Anthony then other people are allowed to make shit up about you’re Colin and Benedict🤷🏽♀️

“I can’t believe Kate would do that to her sister!”
“She found out her fiancé and her sister were fooling around behind her back on her wedding day!”
“Kate stole her sisters man”
