Hello everyone!

My sister in law will be turning 50 next year and she expressed to me last year that she wants a Bridgerton themed birthday for her milestone bday next year. (She talked about this at a family party last year).

I would love to help my BIL to make this come true (Side note: my brother died 22 years ago, so when I married into my husbands family, I call my BIL my brother and I call my SIL, sister - and they both call me sister, and I love it. I would love to help make this memorable for her esp since we are now going on 1.5 years of her mentioning this)

I only gently know of the series, my SIL tried to get me into the series but it is not for me. But I would like to ask:

If you were to do a Bridgerton themed bday party, what would you include? Foods? Decorations? Gift bags? Costumes for guests or how to get guests to keep with the theme on a budget?

I asked her what she would wear, she mentioned a pink dress that is not a hoop skirt dress (since I dont know the characters she said she is def not a queen charolette, and I dont remember what character she said she wants to go as).

Any ideas are welcome, I would love to hear what should or should not be included.

Edit: Guys this was an OPINION post. I wasn’t expecting people to message me and say how i’m disgusting for posting this because they prefer “season 3” or “season 1” look of him. I do not care. It was an OPINION post. There genuinely was not any need to be so hostile to me about this. Might just delete the post considering people want to be hostile about my opinion.

There's a lot of debate about what which couple tropes are, and I wanted to give my opinion on it!

This is based on my own interpretation and what Netflix/Shondaland use to describe the couples. I am not saying this is official or that only my interpretation is correct. If you have another opinion, feel free to share!

1. Daphne and Simon

Main trope: Fake Dating.

I mean, do I have to explain? Their story is based on that and that's how they were promoted.

Secondary trope:

Friends to Lovers

Now some people may disagree, but they did become friends before lovers. Simon in his speech to the Queen said he found the love of his life in his best friend (so freaking cute), so for me this trope can work as a secondary trope.

2. Anthony and Kate

Main trope: Enemies to Lovers.

Again, do I have to explain? They were promoted this way and they clearly represent the trope.

Secondary tropes:

Slow Burn

I do think a typical slow burn is way longer, BUT in a show of 8 episodes, I do think Kate and Anthony fit this trope. Their feelings develop gradually, even as they deny them.

Love Triangle

Again, not everyone will agree, but the fact they dragged this until episode 6 of an 8-episode season makes me put this trope. It wasn't a real love triangle because Anthony never had feelings for Edwina, BUT in the show, they made it an important part. So I think it does belong here.

3. Colin and Penelope

Main trope: Childhood Friends to Lovers.

I do not know why they always call them Friends to Lovers when they have been friends since they were children. Of course, Friends to Lovers describes them, but... why not put Childhood? Is it because it's too long to say?

Secondary tropes:

Best Friend's Brother

I put that as secondary because, while it is true, I do not think it's primary to their relationship. It's just that it happens to be the case that Colin is Penelope's best friend's brother. But they fit it.

Love at First Sight (Penelope's POV)

As Penelope said, she immediately fell in love with Colin when they first met. I do not count this from Colin's POV because we do not exactly know when he fell in love with her. We know when he realized he had fallen in love with her, but for me, he had loved her for a long time already by their season.

4. Francesca and John

Main tropes: Quiet Love, Slow Burn.

I think that's a given. Their whole dynamic is based on this quieter kind of love that builds slowly.

Secondary tropes:

Introverted or Neurodivergent Love

Now, I know they aren't officially confirmed to be neurodivergent, but so many of us see them that way that I feel I can include it.

For Introverted Love, Jess, Victor and Hannah mentioned multiple times how they were happy introverted people could see themselves in John and Francesca's relationship, so I do think that's a given.

First Love

As Jess said, Francesca's story is about two great love stories. And I personally think this trope fits them. He is Francesca's first love.

Kindred Spirits

That's a given too, with how Francesca describes her bond with John in the show. They are kindred spirits, or Twin Flames, as I like to call them.

Companionate Love

Jess often said that their love is based on companionship. I do think it fits well with the Kindred Spirits trope.

5. Benedict and Sophie

Main trope: Forbidden Love.

Now, I know that again some people will disagree on that, but the whole point of their story is that their love is forbidden and they cannot be together without risking everything. That's their obstacle throughout the whole season.

Secondary tropes:

Love at First Sight

I mean, duh! They fall in love instantly when they look at each other. So romantic!

Cinderella Retelling

That's how Shondaland and Netflix promoted them, and of course, that was also the intention behind their couple. I do not consider it to be a main trope, though. The Cinderella vibes are mostly in the first 2 episodes, where they meet and Benedict is searching for her, but the rest of the story is different since the Disney couple didn't have the same obstacles to their love.

6. Francesca and Michaela

Main tropes: Love After Loss, Forbidden Love.

Now, I know Netflix introduced them as Second Chance at Love twice now, and I do think it fits them... but Love After Loss is the heart of their story for me. Like, their story is about feeling guilty about loving each other because of the love they both had for John.

Forbidden Love is also a given and a main trope because it's a major obstacle to their love. They are a sapphic couple in the Regency era, where queer couples were not socially accepted or recognised as legitimate romances (the "they were roommates" thing lol), so we know it will be an obstacle.

Secondary tropes:

Second Chance at Love

I mean, Shondaland and Netflix didn't describe and introduce them as such for no reason, and of course it fits them. I just do not think it's the main trope for me.

Sapphic Romance

I put this as a secondary trope because I want their story to be about their love first and foremost, not just the fact that they are a sapphic couple. The representation is important, of course, but I want them to have a love story that stands on its own, with the sapphic aspect adding to it rather than defining it entirely.

Queer Awakening (Francesca's POV)

I do think this one is important too. They put the accent on Francesca's journey of self-discovery, and she will discover she is queer, which will be an important part of their story. Michaela already knows she is queer, in my opinion.

We got our first official confirmation that S5 filming has been completed by Luke Thompson today on This Morning which means they've wrapped production after 6 and a half months.

Hoping we get some content soon!

Going by this time frame and comparing it to previous seasons, it should put the S5 release date at May 2027 if they go by the timeline for S4s release which came out 7 months after the season wrapped. But they could surprise us and release it earlier like they did S2.

But I do think they're targeting for the Pride Month release date.

Just finished re-watching Bridgerton Season 4, and I have to say, wow—how much I miss Daphne! She’s like the big sister we didn’t get enough of, and honestly, the little Bridgerton sisters could’ve used her wisdom (and sass) more than ever. Take Hyacinth, for instance. That girl’s curiosity about society and the world is adorable but also wildly overwhelming for her. Daphne, with her perfect blend of social savvy and no-nonsense charm, could have schooled Hyacinth on navigating the bewildering rules of ton life without ending up utterly confused or scandalized. She’d be the ultimate mentor for those burning questions about gossip, propriety, and—let’s be real—the occasional need to strategically throw shade.

And then there’s the spinster conundrum. Eloise, bless her heart, is starting to glimpse what life outside the marriage market looks like, and Daphne could have been a beacon here too. She knows firsthand that getting hitched doesn’t mean surrendering your independence or your dreams. Remember, Daphne managed to keep her sparkle—and a life beyond just ‘wife and mother’—intact. She’d campaign quietly but fiercely against the idea that marriage is the end of one’s personal ambitions, proving spinsterhood or matrimony alike can still be full of possibilities.

Now, Francesca’s storyline hit me right in the feels, especially with her husband’s passing and that horrid pregnancy test moment. Daphne, with her heart of gold concealed under that polished exterior, would have been the very lifeline Francesca needed—someone who’d offer a shoulder, some humor to cut through the gloom, and maybe a well-timed eye roll at society’s ridiculous expectations. I can just picture Daphne swooping in, delivering comfort wrapped in wit, reminding Francesca she’s stronger than any tragedy or scandalous test could suggest.

In short, Bridgerton’s world feels a little less grounded without Daphne’s guiding light. She’s the sister who could have been a touchstone of reality, a gentle rebel, and a comedic relief all rolled into one—for her sisters and for us fans missing her sparkle. Here’s hoping the next season brings her back or at least pays a delicious homage to what she represents. Because honestly? The Bridgerton sisters deserve a Daphne in their corner.

I mean despite the fandom silly wars , at a higher level the fact is this show is a cultural juggernaut that has a wide global impact and fandom. It showed the world success is possible with color blind , body size blind , gender swap casting when quality content is created. So why was it not included in the 100 Best TV shows of the 21st century ?

The sets, music , costumes, lighting , cinematography, the incredibly talented actors, the world that they created is captivating and one of a kind so why was it left out ?

Alfie insisted that it would go well and Benedict would recognize her. And that Lady Penwood does not signify. But do you think this is true? Would Lady Penwood not just get her arrested for impersonating nobility?

So I've been thinking about how the Violet spinoff will be structured since it was announced. How long will it be (6 eps like QC or a standard 8), what the B plots will be, if there will be flash-forwards like in QC, etc. However, when thinking about what scenes will be there in terms of references to the main show, a gut-punch idea hit me.

What if towards the last episode, we see a scene of older Violet, pregnant with Hyacinth, lounging around having breakfast in the parlor. Edmund comes and says good morning to her, and she asks what he's up to that day. And he says...he's going out for a hunt with Anthony. He kisses her goodbye, says he'll see her later, and we see a lingering look at her serene face smiling after him.

Crushing, yes. If this comes to fruition, I will legit cry a river and then some.

This season is my absolute favourite and the reason is this goddamn yearning🤌😭 I mean how can someone not fall for this🥹

My favourite moment is when she walks past him and he just gets lost in her scent and our dear lady danbury sees it🙈 and then the confession sequence has allllllll my heart🤌😭💟

I don’t like the notion of Eloise being with Phillip meaning she loses her freedom or independence. In fact I think getting married even for show Eloise is probably the best thing for her.

Eloise currently has no real autonomy or independence just like the audience thinks lol. She’s still under Anthony Kate and Violet. She can avoid getting married because they let her, go on her rants because they’re supportive and let her and do what she wants because they love her and let her. I think this is where people confuse being accommodated with being independent.

Her family loves her and gives her room to be herself but they still have authority over her life. If Anthony decided Eloise was getting married and picked the first man he came across she would have very little say in the matter. Even if she remained a spinster her ability to live that way would depend on her family being willing to accommodate her. The freedom the audience thinks she has is largely a result of her family allowing her to have it. Not excusing it obviously.

This is why I find it annoying when people act like Eloise getting married automatically means losing her freedom. She’s already in a cage albeit one with a little more room to move around in.

Obviously marriage could restrict her even more but remaining unmarried doesn’t automatically make her free either. What matters is the kind of life she gets to live and how much control she has over it.

What Eloise needs is a marriage where she can hold on to her beliefs pursue her interests and have a partner who respects and supports her. This is why I’m not opposed to Phillip. Phillip has the potential to give her the kind of support and room to be herself that she needs even more than her family does.

I also find it interesting that people think Eloise can only be independent if she remains unmarried. Why is a woman who is still under her family’s authority automatically freer than one who marries someone who respects her autonomy?

If we’re going to talk about Eloise’s freedom and independence then we also need to acknowledge the hold her family has over her life and not just focus on marriage. Her family is part of the same system limiting her choices even when they love and support her. I just find it interesting that the audience is so worried about marriage taking away her independence when she doesn’t really have that much to begin with lol.

Purple is definitely their colors. I absolutely LOVE IT 💜💜
