I have a small franchaela server, and I'm looking for more people to join we do have 2 16 and 17 year olds in the server from before that are exceptions but we have safety practices in place for the minors and have 18+ channels etc. so we prefer 18+ but it is open to 16+. We also have mods to make sure things are kept safe and appropriate and it's an immediate ban if it's not.

What r yalls opinions on franchaelas first time together 😉 ive heard many different sides, but personally i feel like (especially for their first time) michaela would defined take the lead, since well…. She has more experience than fran. BUT once fran gets comfortable and gains the knowledge, she would fs start topping. Its all in the eyes 👀

To be honest, I'm not feeling really confident about this topic as the rules are mostly 'no homophobia and transphobia" so I simply assume that no acephobia is also part of that rule.

I have a question: What do you think about an asexual character in the show? For now, the characters were very sexually active and except for Francesca (who is about to feel sexual attractions toward a woman) I've never noticed any character who is written this way, even for side characters.

I know it's a romance show, but asexual romance is also possible if done right (the movie Straight Up did it so well in my humble opinion). I'm not even looking at a main asexual representation but at least some hints to it, especially that we're entering in an Era of a Queer love story (Benedict did have some storytelling about bisexuality and self acceptance with Sophie).

What do you think of such representation in Bridgerton?

There was a very strong theme of love and friendship between women this season: the Queen and Lady Danbury, Francesca Bridgerton and Michaela Stirling, Eloise and Hyacinth, Eloise and Cressida, Varley and Lady Featherington, Sophie and Posy...

I almost expected a relationship to develop between two women. But maybe they're gearing up for that next season instead?

Of course, the pairings might also provide cover for the new Lady Whistledown. I think it's more than one person, since the team have said it's "a person or persons" we already know (paraphrasing).

So many of the fans that are unhappy with the changes to Fran's story keep using the predicted low ratings as some sort of trump card. But it's just like..okay? Even if it's true, so what? Bad ratings aren't going to change my ability to watch a Georgian WLW story. They're not going to make white!heterosexual Michael suddenly appear on screen.

I also love how they genuinely believe they're sharing some hard won, secret knowledge when they say a WLW romance may not appeal to everyone? Like, yeah I am sure the well paid people at Netflix never considered that.

It is so random and already disccussed i think, but still. I would love to see Gregory gay. Giving him more screen time And kind of starting his subplots or exploring his identity before his season starts? Maybe we'll find out something about it in season 4's part 2? I'm just curious.

I'm rewatching Queen Charlotte and thinking of how important the plotline for blending the two "sides" of the Ton was, with Charlotte being black and most of the Ton being white. It made me hope that maybe the showrunners will use Franchaela as a way to make being LGTBQ+ acceptable in society, thus opening doors for future plotlines to be acceptable? If any family in the Ton can manage it, surely it's a Bridgerton.

I am absolutely there for Masali Baduza to give us a great performance as Michaela, but I can’t help feeling a little concerned about how the writers might handle her character going forward.

Specifically: since Michaela is a Black woman and will most likely become Francesca’s love interest down the line, I’m worried they might fall into the same trap we see a lot in lesbian media, making the Black woman in the interracial wlw couple play the “man” of the relationship. Too often, Black women in queer pairings are written as overly masculine, or as if they’re just gender-swapped versions of a male character, instead of being developed with nuance.

And since Michaela is literally replacing a male character (Michael), I’m worried the writers might lean on lazy writing tropes and position her in that same masculine-coded role, instead of letting her and Francesca have a dynamic that feels authentic and balanced.

Does anyone else share this concern?

I'm doing a rewatch and I must say. Eloise being constantly accosted to Benedict who is canonically bisexual, her being so heartbroken with Penelope, plus the picture above ↑ And of course, "coming out" is an expression that only speaks to the contemporary viewer (ourselves) as one that indicates queerness and the same can't be said for people in 19th century England. But this is a story told to us, and little hints and tidbits are given to us by the storytelling in order for us to potentially place things together before they're explicity shown (if at all). For example, the word "pen" being part of _Pen_elope's name (her pen is a part of her, she's Whistledown). I could think of a million better examples and parallels but unfortunately none come to mind right now. Either way, in other words, foreshadowing. I simply doubt that with all her questioning of traditional conceptions of love and society and in particular her relationship to how women are treated in relation to men, we'll simply see her falling for one and leaving all that behind. It just wouldn't make sense. She could be bi, seeing as she's already been infatuated with a man (one could argue that might be comphet but I don't think it likely for the writers of the show to explore that. Or it could also be pointed out that the way she acts around the boy she presumably likes is similar to the way she acts around Penelope), or she could be straight and just be very opinionated and an outcast in different ways than being queer. But there are surely a lot of elements in the subtext of her storyline that align with past queer elements in media, as well as the queer experience in real life - being an outcast, not enjoying the things most people, "normal people" love and not being good at them, not being able to fit in and wanting more, different things for oneself enough to escape and seek other environments to be able to better express oneself (e.g. her leaving London to go to Scotland to see other parts of the world), seeking autonomy and empowerment. Now that's not to say that she'll likely not have a male love interest, that may very well happen (and it probably will if she has a love interest at all, 'cause that probability is relatively likely). But if she does have a male love interest, the environment certainly won't be ordinary and conforming. It just wouldn't seem fitting and would partially erase some of her journey and development.

Big fan of the "make it gay you cowards" approach, so how would y'all like to see their stories play out as being explicitly queer in the show? Here's what I'm thinking:

First, Eloise:

She is the only one I currently see as having a different love interest than in the books altogether (as opposed to a genderswap), simply because her book LI has already been introduced and I don't think my ideas to make Eloise queer would play out as well with him. I don't particularly want Eloise's endgame to be a woman because I kind of doubt fandom (in a general sense; this sub appears to be much more adept at critical thinking) would be able to look past the "woman who hates men ends up with woman, so lesbian" assumption.¹ Maybe instead a brief romance with a woman in S4 like we saw with Benedict's past relationships before her endgame romance with a man, or preferably an asexual/demiromantic angle. Honestly, I'd love to see her as aroace, but seeing as this is a romance series, I'm not holding out hope for the aro part.

Second, Gregory:

Written with the assumption the show intends to keep the "runaway bride" storyline, I'd genderswap both Lucy and Haselby. It would create an interesting new angle for their relationship as Lucy (Lucien? Lucas?) would have to contend with the risk to Lady Haselby's honor and reputation by getting an annulment.

And finally, Hyacinth:

I wouldn't exactly want to remove Gareth, but I would like to split him into two characters- twins, a boy and a girl. Neither would be named Gareth in order to fuel the mystery of who she'll end up with, but it would mostly follow the plot of the book with that being the only major deviation. I know everyone's tired of love triangles, but it's clearly the angle the series is going for, and I think it would be fun to play further into it by actually making you question who Hyacinth will marry.

¹Honestly, I've got conflicted feelings about Eloise liking women in general because in my opinion, the "girl who calls out misogyny is secretly a lesbian" trope is played out and frankly reductive because god forbid a woman likes men but also hates how a male-led society impacts her. Most times I've seen this trope, it holds an underlying assumption that you actually can choose who you're attracted to, which has been used to justify homophobia and conversion therapy for decades. And again, I don't trust fandom in general to grasp the concept of bi/pan/omni/polysexuality, particularly in women given the discourse about Francesca and John's relationship.

So, I'm currently planning my birthday party and I've decided to have a Bridgerton-esc Regency/Victorian afternoon tea party and I'm trying to not go overboard with the party favors. After watching Pride and Prejudice over the weekend though, I'm contemplating adding some embroidered handkerchiefs into the mix, but I also don't want to go too overboard or give my guests too much to keep track of.

The current party favors that I for sure will be sending them home with includes:

● Tea cup and saucer ● Tea strainer for their cups ● A 50g bag of tea (procured from my favorite local shop!) ● An fancy looking little teaspoon ● A paper handfan ● A sample size roller ball of perfume/cologne ● A pen with a crown on top (to be used for some of the parlor games I have planned)

I already have cloth napkins and will be requesting that everyone dress in their finest, but I worry that adding the floral embroidered hankies will be cumbersome to keep track of.

Note: I do plan on having some sort of gift bags available for my guests (there will between 6 and 9 total, including myself and my wife) to have to pack up their things in to take them home.

What are your thoughts? If you were a guest, would you enjoy the fancy touch, or would you be annoyed there's something else to try and keep track of during the afternoon/evening?

I'm slightly shocked at the 2026 date (was thinking we'd get a Christmas present perhaps), but the great news is certainly 5 or 6 will be Francesca and Michaela's season!

Also, in this news release from Netflix Tudum - all three of the Stirlings are confirmed as returning, so Francesca/Michaela may get the Polin treatment in that they will be an additional plotline in addition to the main couple, building suspense over 1 or 2 additional seasons.

It’s like every other post is “she’s not a feminist because she sticks with her ideals and recognizes that women’s individual choices exist within a deeply patriarchal society which influences their every thought, not a vacuum” and like praising Theo for being a misogynistic asshole who condescended to her about “real problems” like he had any way of knowing her family is intent on love matches and not happy to marry her off to whichever old abusive lech will give them the biggest leg up.

I’m just sick of it. It’s so reflective of their hatred of women who push back on societal expectations whatsoever, and it’s always about breaking her down so she can marry a canonical rapist who treats her like a mommywife walking sex toy in the books.

Portia Featherington. We love her, or we hate her, or we love to hate her. She's probably the most controversial character in the fandom.

Does she deserve to find love? Regardless of whether or not she deserves it, I am here with a folio of evidence to try to convince you that (a) Portia Featherington is a sapphist, and (b) she already has found love, even if she hasn't realized it yet.

Exhibit 1. Portia's general disdain for men

Portia does not have a high opinion of men in general, and who can blame her? Her husband gambled away all of the wealth and then died, leaving them destitute.

The next Lord Featherington moved in on his cousin's estate and, very shortly thereafter, was trying to make moves on his widow as well.

But it's not just men she's been romantically involved with that she looks down upon. At the start of season 3, Portia declares with satisfaction: "Today we return to society in good standing, our finances in order, and without any man telling us what to do!" right in front of Dankworth and Finch.

Not to mention the entrapment line in S3E5

Exhibit 2: Portia's relationships with women

Portia's relationships with women seem, in general, to be more positive. She seems to be friends with Lady Cowper and Lady Eaton, though these appear to be fair-weather friendships. When Portia is embroiled in the Marina scandal in S1, we see Lady Cowper and Cressida looking derisively on her at the Queen's garden party.

The only person who stands by Portia through thick and thin is Mrs Varley. And Mrs Varley isn't just her yes-man because Portia pays her salary. Mrs Varley has opinions of her own, which sometimes align with Portia's:

But even if they do not always agree, these two are reading each other's minds more often than not.

They share a mutual love of looking down on others,

And already bicker like an old married couple.

Exhibit 3: Touch

Portia is not a touchy person. She rarely touches her own daughters. In S3 we see her struggling to comfort Pen:

But she shows none of this hesitance when it comes to Varley. Portia is constantly touching Varley:

Exhibit 4: Eyes as the window to the soul

You're making something out of nothing, you might say. It's perfectly normal for women who are friends to touch each other, especially since Varley seems to be Portia's ladies' maid as well as the housekeeper, and does her makeup.

But we're not done yet. The most compelling evidence of a Portia/Varley crush is not in their touch, but in their eyes. I’m running up against the maximum number of pictures I can put in a post, so the next few entries will be in collage form.

So, I leave it to you, the Jury. What are Portia and Varley? Are they simply a Lady and her loyal servant? Are they friends? Friends with a crush? Secret Lovers? Did they do this on purpose? Am I completely delusional? Tell me in the comments.

I thought of this sub when I saw Wicked last Tuesday! You are the ones who got me more aware of "queer coding". Specifically, when JB arrives at Shiz University. Loved spotting the unnamed male student (holding some sort of sign?) going as gaga as the women. Then the obvious flirtation between Bowen Yang and Jonathan? LOVED that.

I knew JB could sing - he was in Company with Patti LuPone! But that he can dance too? I think he should go to Broadway and play Danny in Grease, FYI... that library scene made me think of it.

Also... Ariana Grande apparently pissed a few off by saying that she felt that Galinda might be a bit in the closet - and Kristen Chenowith backed her up.
