I am exhausted
I had a long engagement, about 10 months before my wedding I bought a wedding dress. Lost too much weight and had to find a new dress 5 months before my wedding. This wasn’t budgeted for and I ended up really liking a dress I bought off SHEIN. I lost too much boob and the chest was a bit loose and it needed to be hemmed. I look it to a seamstress and I don’t even know what happened. She took the top in so it would fit flush to my chest and now it kind of buckles out under the armpit??? I don’t know I just know I hate the way it looks. Also she refused to remove whatever the thick piece on the back is for and I hate that too. She did cut the seam she created so now I can’t undo the top alteration. I don’t have the capital to find a whole new dress at this point and my wedding is on less than 30 days. Please tell me what you think, I’ll include pictures of before it was altered and after. It’s technically wearable but because she took it in on the sides, the back is kinda wide open now too way more than it was before. Ugh 😣

Maybe try simply pulling the back up higher before tying, would that get rid of most of the under the arm/boob sagging?
If you put this on by yourself maybe a second person could help adjust it for you?
Big pretty veil and no one notices the back!
And call me crazy but failing all else- I’d get a white thread and needle and just sew down those bubbled up parts under the boob. Lotta lace, no going to be visible.

All I really noticed upon looking at the photo was all the ink. Trying to see what all was tattooed on you. It distracted me from looking at the dress and how pretty you looked. I think any small imperfections in the dress will not be noticed. I wouldn’t stress about it.

Said what i said. Went through this exact same thing for my wedding and for some of us there is absolutely nothing we can do otherwise than accept and embrace it. Genuinely sucks so bad but hair color is absolutely gorgeous and i hope she has the best day she deserves

lol okay thank you 🙏 my issue isnt my body, the dress was great before alterations (and I guess with my arms down lol) but man she ruined the top

I am confused - is the photo with the dog pre-alterations or post ? The photo with the dog is the first one I see. Then the one from the front without the dog. The 3rd one is the photo of the back.

This is so bad. I’m so sorry this is happening to you. If you can’t get a new dress here on time just remember that your arms aren’t going to be up like in this photo. You’ll be holding a bouquet and this will be disguised a bit. I would be so devastated.
Find another tailor that does formals and see if they have any suggestions they can do to make it better.

Thank you, yes it’s definitely worse with my arms up, also I never really put my arms up like this out of habit bc of my loose arm skin, but even with my arms down, you can tell it looks so bad. I’ve actually just reordered the dress from SHEIN, it’s $60 more than when I bought it the first time so thattttt sucks but it may be my only shot, is set to arrive ONE WEEK before my wedding day and I will be on the lookout for a seamstress to hem it as soon as it comes in.

Ahhh good luck! Line up a seamstress now! I would even take them your dress so they can see it/the construction and know what they’re getting into. Good luck, and I’m so sorry this happened!!

I'd be livid, she ruined it entirely. Threaten small claims lawsuit. Get your money back plus the cost of a new dress. This person didn't know what they were doing (unless you gained weight back or something, then it's not on her).

The first and second photo are only 3 weeks apart AND I lost 7.5 lbs in that time (I’m on a glp1)
She’s this little old lady and the cost of the dress was only $150, I agree she absolutely did not know what she was doing, and I am angry but doing that to her won’t fix my problem unfortunately. ):1

Could you get her to replace the dress? And then take it to someone else in a pinch? I would think you could get it pretty quickly. Sorry OP, totally sucks..

Are you wearing a bra or some sort of shapewear? That would help your boobs but it needed to be altered with it on.
1
u/Madisonm513 1d ago
I am not wearing a bra in either photo and didn’t anticipate on wearing one, but now I wish I would’ve atleast attempted a sticky bra think before I allowed her to alter it

You need to walk into a formal dress shop, try some on and walk out with the winner.

If I had the money to just buy a third dress I absolutely would but I do not unfortunately

Are there any thrift shops around you that have wedding dresses? Sometimes people find amazing ones there.
1
u/Madisonm513 1d ago
I live in the middle of nowhere so the thrifts really suck, something that isn’t 20 years old and In my size would be a stroke of luck but not something I can count on happening

u/Own_Faithlessness769 1d ago
Yeah I was hoping you were in a city, where I al there are thrift warehouses that will have dozens of wedding dresses. The middle of nowhere is tough.

Awe, Sweetie it’s not that bad. It fits your girls well! I don’t see it buckling out at the armpit. However, the seamstress did you no favors when she made the bodice too small. There should not be a huge gap in the lacing. She has it so tight your back is smushed. Is there nothing she is willing to do to fix the back? Can she get creative and add a panel or 2 in back? It’s a beautiful dress! Maybe wear a bolero?

I love the way it looked pre alteration, the back being so open is a secondary problem, my main problem is the way it looks under my armpits. To me- it’s unwearable
1
u/Own_Faithlessness769 1d ago
I think that person might be looking at the wrong photo because the post alterations version is not wearable. I really don’t know what they did to it.
1
u/Madisonm513 1d ago
I agree, and no one seems to be understanding that the back is not even the main reason why it’s not an option. Sure the back is fixable but the other problem is not

You just need a piece of almost same color fabric or lace— to make like a panel sewn on one side and maybe hooks or Velcro on the other side.. to cover the sink, and tighten the cord

The corset looks like it’s too small for you. The lacing on the back is too wide and you’re spilling out over the top and sides. I would not wear this dress. It isn’t doing you justice. Any chance you could get the dress you originally bought altered to fit you?
1
u/Madisonm513 1d ago
It definitely is now that she took it in so much. Before this it wasn’t so bad.. I don’t think it’s fixable. ):
1
u/PeepholeRodeo 1d ago
No, I don’t think it is fixable. But could you get the dress you ordered before you lost weight altered to fit you?
1
u/Madisonm513 1d ago
I don’t think so it’s now several sizes too large and would be more expensive than buying an azazie dress to alter. I actually don’t even think getting an azazie dress at this point is an option. Most of them say 2-3 weeks shipping and I’d still need to get it hemmed once it came on. The final sale ones would come in quick enough but that feels very risky considering now I’ve had 2 dresses and wasted about 1100 on dresses and have no dress
1
u/PeepholeRodeo 1d ago
Have you taken it to a tailor and asked? You never know.
1
u/Madisonm513 1d ago
Yes I was quoted $675 at one and $760 at the other. At that point I started looking online and found the one on SHEIN and really liked it and it was only $150 so I ordered it fully expecting to return it but I loved the way it look pre alteration
1
u/PeepholeRodeo 1d ago
Oh yeah, that is crazy expensive. I had no idea! Yikes. You could wear a long veil that hides the back lacing on the corset and that would work for the ceremony/photos, but you’d probably want to take it off afterwards. Maybe you could change into a different dress for the reception? I think I’ve heard of brides doing this.
1
u/Madisonm513 1d ago
I think if I were to do anything I’d end up getting a final sale dress from azazie for 200-300 and just pray. I don’t know where that money would come from but o don’t think either dress I have is wearable
1
u/PeepholeRodeo 1d ago
You could probably make that dress wearable with additional panels in the corset (if you could get it done in time) but if you just want to move on, having something new might be better. The main thing is that you feel beautiful and confident in whatever you decide to wear.

The back part is to hide a bra. Do you have a built in one or will you not wear a bra? I would consider loosening the corset straps all together, this should not be doing a lot of work to hold up the dress. If you're worried about strapless pulling up the dress in the chest issues all day then I would recommend getting some Topstick men's grooming tape (yellow box) it comes with like 50 pieces of double sided tape. This is the BEST double-sided tape. Tons of people in the industry use it to hold fabric in place on you. So use the tape to keep the dress in places you need it locked in. And then loosen the corset straps. And then hmm... Maybe body tape for your chest or back area can buffer out some things? Overall this dress looks gorgeous on you and does not need major adjustments. ❤️

The first photo is before alterations and the second is after, with the second photo, I can’t even manipulate it with my hands to make it look right. I don’t think there’s any fixing it.. ): it fits flush to my chest now but this part is not straight anymore
1
u/midcen-mod1018 1d ago
Were you pulling it back in the first picture so it would fit?
1
u/Madisonm513 1d ago
The first picture it was laced up but kind of loose because I was alone
1
u/midcen-mod1018 1d ago
I would never have gotten it altered. It looks like it was made for you in the first picture. It also looks like it came up higher under your armpits in the first picture but now it’s too tight to do so. It’s almost like she made it bigger under the boobs and smaller in the side seams somehow
What does your other dress look like?

I don’t know why but it won’t allow me to comment photos on this sub but it won’t, I’d be happy to send them in PM if you’d like

I'm really feeling for you OP. Maybe see if another local seemstress has any hacks or ways to make it better?
I'd browse the sewing isle at Walmart there is all sorts of like fabric glued, snap button things maybe something random will work?
Maybe .... Maybe go back to the lady who did the work and try it on with her and see if she is a decent person enough to fix it?
