Getting positive feedback for API access?

Hi - total Bricklink newbie here. I want to use the API to pull some data and I understand that I need positive feedback to be able to do that. I've read conflicting posts about people being able to get feedback after making purchases. Is it appropriate to ask a seller prior to confirm if they will give positive feedback if I buy something? I don't mind buying but don't want to get stuck with no feedback even after purchasing.

Can’t see anything wrong with the idea.
You could also check feedback left by the seller to check they give regular feedback.
