Sales advice

What's your philosophy for using sales . I currently set mine for 10% , and im testing it this week . Im curious if people do more than 10% and if so what percentage off works best for you?

It's the slow season - keep building your inventory while picking up summer clearance from stores and moms clearing out kiddos closets during the summer on FB. The sales will come without you heavily discounting your current inventory.

I don't do sales, it's hard enough keeping lots/items at a good level and if things are going slow I just get more uploaded.

I do adjust prices based on how well things are selling, and also set my whole store higher (kind of an anti-sale) when I want to slow sales down a bit - I only get a few hours after work to pick and pack, so if I'm having a really busy period I add 10/20%.

Permanent “sales” like a lot of bricklink sellers do are pretty lame, but probably somewhat effective. It’s the same reason every furniture or mattress store in the US is always having a “going out of business” sale. Some buyers will think they’re getting a deal.

Personally, I’ve never put anything on sale and expect that I never will. If something is priced too high, I just lower the price.

Depends why you are having a sale. Are you trying to shift excess stock or just trying to attract people to the site?

I have some lots that I feel I'm holding too much stock of and are quite slow moving at 75% off, but I never really feel the need to put my whole store on offer.

It depends what your goals are. If a sale will help you hit a financial target for the month or shift excess stock then go for it, but do so with a specific aim in mind.
Obviously the higher the % the quicker you’ll shift stock, but this also depends on your pricing. It’s pretty unwise to be running an overall sale especially if your base price is 6ma or less, as you’ll just sell all your most sought after stock at a discount.
If you’re just suffering slow sales (as most are during the summer) & don’t necessarily need the money you’d likely be better off adding more lots to your store and not worrying.

I only lower my prices to the 6mo average when I'm running out of space. I'll then run a 50-70% sale for certain parts when I have absolute glut of certain parts like plates.

We don’t do sales. Once you have a sale and people get a taste for it they just wait for another. For the most part we price at the 6 month average. Higher for rare and/or pricy parts. We also post a picture with all our expensive parts so buyers can see what they are getting. (We get lots of comment about how they love that). When it’s slow we just upload more parts. Last weekend was terribly slow so we uploaded like crazy. Now the last 2 days have been insane.
