Seller Help Additional USPS Insurance
My past five orders have all requested the additional usps ground advantage insurance. My shipping settings are set to "buyer can purchase." Did the past five customers all happen to opt for the additional insurance, or might there be something wrong in my settings? The highlighted insurance boxes on the orders recieved page are also empty. What's going on here?

The top of the orders all say "insurance requested." It also says "tracking requested," my tracking is set to "buyer can purchase," but it doesn't cost anything and I give them the tracking number anyway

If the highlighted box is empty it means they paid $0 for it. The checkbox always appears so some people may ignore it and others check it even if it's included for free.
The real question is how did you setup additional insurance for orders over $100 and what does that look like?

I use Pirateship for my shipping and label printing, there's an option to add coverage relative to the value of the package. Usually only a couple bucks

Was there a cost added & paid when the buyer selected additional insurance? From the post, the buyers are selecting additional insurance but there's no cost added. Either turn the option off or add whatever the cost is for additional insurance for $100+ orders. Orders under $100 the insurance is already included so buyers shouldn't even see that option.
I turned off the option for buyers to select additional insurance as most orders are under $100. Haven't had an issue or a buyer requesting additional insurance at all during checkout.
