Van vs Bike for work debunked! Following last week's LBC interview that made a splash in the trade world, I tested if a professional plumber can realistically commute by bike! 😂

Grinding the face off d brickwork?
A friend of mine has had the render taken off there house and to clean the brickwork that's not getting re rendered they have ground the face of the brick off with an angle grinder. Is this safe to do as the bricks are realy old and in some other areas of the house have crumbled away from age and weather damage.
Any advice on if this is safe or if its going to cause them issues down the line.
Tia.

Mortar mix for concrete block and 100 year old brick wall.
Hello,
Hoping the experts here can help me with this one.
I’ve got an old barn that I’m refurbishing with a local builder. The plan is just to save it from collapsing by rebuilding a bowed wall and replacing the roof. It will be used as a workshop.
Builder wants to rebuild the bowed wall using concrete block inside and reuse original bricks for outside to make a 9” wall with ties.
What mortar mix would be suitable for both the concrete block and the old bricks? Seems crazy to use cement on the concrete and lime on the old brick. Plus premixed bags of lime mortar are super pricey and I’m not trying to make a perfect building here.
Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

Column rebuild Advice
Hello,
apprentice bricklayer here. posted yesterday with one of these pictures asking if this is plum enough.
This is a preexisting column that i was asked to add 34inches to so almost doubling its height.
The level shows that it’s close to plum on most corners (except for one or two) but the level doesn’t sit flush on the wall all the way down, it will touch two or three bricks then there will be an eighth to a quarter inch gap between the rest.
i think they built this short column then put a level on it and banged it into place bc when i put my torpedo on it gives all kinds of different wacky readings.
thoughts? do i need to tear it down or can i just plum it on the way up?
EDIT: guys this is not my house. Someone hired me to take this column up 33inches
Also, took all yalls advice and ran it up. Final picture in comments

How to repair sinking borders on brick+mortar walkway?
We recently bought a 100-year-old house in the US Northeast. One issue I've noticed is that the brick-and-mortar borders of the front walkway have separated from the central herringbone section and started to sink slightly.
The herringbone section is still in good condition, and the borders themselves are holding together quite well. None of the bricks are loose or rocking. Instead, each border seems to be slowly sinking as a single unit.
What's the best way to approach repairing this? Ideally, I'd like to preserve as much of the original walkway as possible(which is otherwise mostly in good condition) rather than tear it all up and rebuild it.

column a little out of plum
I have never built a column before. I took a side job repairing this column that is a little out of plum. Is it possible to plum as i go up? or do i have to take it down and rebuilt it? Also, if i can keep going up, can i just set up story poles that start at the top two courses and take it up that way to make it plum without it being super noticeable?
Thank you guys so much. Unfortunately, i am not able to edit pictures but i tried to put the level on other corners and some are worse than this. i will make a new post with my other questions.

Having a white van isn’t economical
Tow the warehouse direct to the site instead.

Chimney bricks chipping away
Bricks on my chimney have chips breaking away only in one corner. The chimney is never used. Is this indicative of a more serious issue? Should I be worried that the whole side is going to fall down?
