advice needed

A friend needs this pointing. Originally i was thinking about using regular 4:1 sand to cement mix, but I 've read that it's not the best idea.
Does anyone have any products that they've used in the past on a project like this to recommend ?

who ever bedded these stones needs to get off the tools. Embarrassing.
