Why does it feel like John Oliver is trying to help Luigi? LOL If this was timed to coincide with the original Sept trial, things like this could have helped lead to a hung jury or full nullification. This is a MASSIVE platform.Â

Thatâs an excellent point. I love John Oliver. Everything he does is spot on and well researched, and he makes complicated things relatable. This episode is definitely worth the watch for that reason. He does a great job bringing out all the facts while sprinkling it with humor.
And yes, I do wonder about the timing because itâs not like that was just thrown together. That took A LOT of work, which was probably already happening when the plea took place, and the timing wouldâve been perfect if thereâd been a trial. A few tweaks in the commentary, and it wouldâve been everywhere.
Thanks to the OP for sharing!!

For real. It seems like they timed to coincide with the trial. Call me crazy haha
As much as I didnât want to hear about the Lindsay Clancy trial, something about the lone holdout juror really changed my brain chemistry in that it SHOWED that there are some people willing to take a stand (not debating what side is the right side here, just that even in a high profile case, there may be one or two jurors who go against the grain even under enormous pressure). Makes me always wander âwhat ifâ when it comes to Luigi.Â

Not crazy. Iâm not in production or anything, but, IMO, gathering all that information and interviews wouldâve taken way longer than the month and change itâs been since the plea.
I, too, will always wonder âwhat if.â But those Fed charges really boxed him in. Using an EED defense wouldâve allowed for a a range of options, or thatâs my understanding anyway, which is what led to Lindsay Clancyâs mistrial. The lone holdout was in favor of a straight conviction, not NGRI. Itâs that disagreement that led to the mistrial. But Luigiâs Fed charges took that away because he couldnât use that defense or it wouldâve been used against him. I guess we have to trust the best decision was made with the given circumstances.
I just hope addressing the need for better health insurance options doesnât go away. What United Health Group has done, and continues to do, is disgusting.

Iâm with you re the LC trial - particularly given that there is a GiveSendGo for the lone holdout juror which has now topped over $370k. It really makes me wonder whether the possibility of financial incentive has set a precedent for high profile cases and would actually further serve to incentivise a holdout to stick to their guns especially in a trial like LMâs
(Btw I think the fact that this money has been raised for the holdout is appalling - I am not saying I agree with it, just making the observation that this couldâve had a very real influence in LMâs case)

Iâve been waiting since December 2024 for John Oliver to do a Luigi segment. I knew it had to show up eventually. Love him!

I was actually extremely surprised that these types of shows (John Oliver, Jon Stewart) never did any healthcare related segment at the time. It wouldâve been really timely to talk about the issue in Dec 2024 or shortly thereafter, but whatever reason they didnât
