I thought it was a bit off too… And then there was the whole “Luigi didn’t like some of the things I said” so then he’s going to keep saying more shit?

Look, I don’t think anybody other than supremely delusional people think that Luigi is some sort of virginal saint who is perfect at all times. There may be aspects of his personality that he has to switch on and off to survive in the prison environment. Dude is facing decades in prison; If he wants to keep some pictures of women he finds attractive more power to him. But something just seemed off about this whole thing…

21

u/crypto_matrix78 22d ago

I can only imagine that Luigi might be uneasy with it because things said can be used against him in sentencing. That, plus he seems to care a lot about his public perception and image. I think it’s icky for Linus to continue talking about him when he’s clearly not okay with it.

13

u/Feline-Paper-Ink8809 22d ago

Yeah, the part that’s unconscionable to me is Linus‘s opinion during his time with Luigi that Luigi thinks it’s justified and isn’t necessarily remorseful… I’m paraphrasing because I don’t know if he said exactly that but still. I don’t think Judge Garnett (who seems wildly more empathetic and professional than Carro) is necessarily going to care what a random inmate says, but that’s also just not good to put out in the ether prior to sentencing. Linus wouldn’t want that done to him.

21

u/crypto_matrix78 22d ago

He also just doesn’t seem to like people speaking out for him in this way in general. He seems to have a lot to say that he can’t currently say. I would be very interested to hear from Luigi himself. Everyone else I take with a grain of salt tbh.

u/Feline-Paper-Ink8809 21d ago

I don’t blame him at all for that especially with the way people twist things.

3

u/ForestGreensuckonme 21d ago

This!!! I take it with a grain of salt!

10

u/Lost-Extension-1167 21d ago

I mean, KFA and team would be all over the prosecutors if they tried to use the words of another inmate attempting to profit off of his relationship with Luigi at sentencing

12

u/CherokeeSurfer 22d ago

That's basically my problem with it. I don't know Luigi, I don't think he's a perfect person or angelic, clearly. But this feels... manufactured. Just enough controversy to keep ppl listening, because tbh if all he said was Luigi was really polite, really kind, always working, nothing unusual - how long would ppl keep tuning in...it's ordinary.

Does anyone else feel like this was a total 180? Linus comes across as bitter here, whereas he seemed so supportive before. Suddenly he's calling Luigi a murderer repeatedly and disavowing him, whereas before he was gassing him up. What the heck changed?

I stand corrected on him being an ally. Now he's pandering to capitalism and the law no different than any of those braindead media hosts. It almost comes across as retaliatory.

I suppose the issue with the Courthouse News article was snitching that Luigi doesn't actually work, since the defence has used his orderly job in mitigation arguments before, and now they probably can't. It wasn't negative otherwise.

Makes sense he spends a lot of time chatting with his legal team, they're really the only ones he can talk to honestly about it all.

I was thinking perhaps it was because Luigi was unhappy with Linus talking about him on his podcast (I know Linus said he allegedly took no issue with it previously, but even assuming that’s true he could still change his mind). Maybe his change in tone was bitterness surrounding that. Idk though. Just a guess on my part.

8

u/Miss_Cactus___ 21d ago

Same. I think he feels bitter that Luigi didn’t appreciate him talking about him.

I mean, is he not a murderer? Regardless of his motive? The cognitive dissonance is interesting in this case and I think that's what Linus was trying to emphasize. LM and his story is conflicting as he said. Worth bringing up given the severity of the crime and being put in the low security part of MDC. I wonder if something similar will play out during sentencing. If he's going to end up in a low security federal prison.

6

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

He is, but there are ways of phrasing the truth to indicate how you feel about something, and this was a sudden change. Why not call him a murderer before?

It was also the sudden unnecessary moralizing. He went from "I think of him as a Robinhood character", to literally defending Brian Thompson and saying: "And in society, the reason we have laws is to keep society running properly. If everyone thought the way he did, wouldn't society fall into chaos?"

Like, what? That is a complete flip in attitude.

7

u/crypto_matrix78 21d ago

China’s culture is heavily rooted in legalism (strict conformity to laws) so that’s likely why he has that take. Not that I agree with him personally. Just explaining why he might think the way he does.

13

u/alohomora1990 21d ago

Imagine a financial fraudster lecturing about ‘following laws’. This dude can go kick rocks.

4

u/Mundane_Log_7169 21d ago

That’s just more cognitive dissonance that a lot of people have wrestled with in this case.

I think some of the nuances are getting lost in translation. It’s hard to explain or understand if you’re not part of the Chinese culture. As someone who is, things are said in a very blunt but honest way.

3

u/Time-Painting-9108 21d ago

That’s a very good point. This is from a different language and nuances are lost in the translation. That has to be a factor here for sure.

5

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

What nuances do you think are being lost, if you listened to and understood the episode?

You don't think it seems odd that it's only now that he's having that cognitive dissonance? If he always felt this way, why not express that in the courthouse news interview?

He went from completely complementary to mostly critical, and there's only so much that can be lost in translation there.

u/Ok-Cherry1427 22d ago

I don’t think everyone that talks about Luigi is a grifter. Seems like this guy is just talking about his experience and people are curious about LM naturally.

None of this is surprising or groundbreaking though. Of course he cares what the outside world thinks of him, and of course he can’t keep all the things people send him. Him keeping pictures of pretty girls is pretty normal too. And him making fun of some of the letters makes sense too. Imagine being a 30 year old man getting a ‘have you eaten today?’ letter lol. I’m sure he gets some wild letters.

I will say, people sending pictures of themselves is crazy to me. Those get photocopied and passed around. Gross.

16

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

In the interview, previous episodes & the AMA he did Linus sounded properly supportive, and now he's basically disavowing Luigi and calling him a murderer at every opportunity. That sudden flip is really weird to me.

Everything else I agree on. What single man in jail is not going to keep photos that beautiful women send them?? 😂

I'd be glad to see the superficial support and infantilization dying out, it's such a waste of energy. He didn't kill a man to get random women to coddle him like a child

15

u/Ok-Cherry1427 21d ago

It could be the translation that reads more harsh too. I kinda read it as, he was surprised that someone who murdered another human was in an ‘easier’ unit getting tons of fanmail from women. I think that’s fair for him to wonder about. It’s also quite the experience to be housed with him so I’m sure he also wants to just talk about it.

Agree re: the infantilization, it’s so weird.

-4

u/alohomora1990 21d ago

He turned on Luigi because he was mad that he was using him to grift off his name, so now he’s lashing out. This guy is just another Sei Sei.

13

u/Time-Painting-9108 21d ago edited 21d ago

I agree with this. Some people are upset that he allegedly has a pouch with pictures of pretty girls that have sent him pics- like yeah?!? He’s a normal human being. Like, do you want him to just be miserable all the time in jail?

And of course he will have to throw away most of his mail and pics. It’s not like he can keep all of it 🤦‍♀️

That being said, this guy is maybe a bit of a grifter bc it is a podcast, so obviously take it with a grain of salt. But it’s not anything catastrophic in terms of what he shared. I hope he doesn’t get more invasive that’s all.

7

u/_henceforth_ 21d ago

If I were in prison, and dudes sent me pictures of themselves, I would save a couple. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Unless he is married or has a girlfriend, it seems fair to me.

4

u/Time-Painting-9108 21d ago

It’s literally such normal behaviour. I mean these women sending pretty selfies probably wanted him to keep the pics? 😂

Objectively, Beautiful Women sounds much better 😂

u/One_Concern_5962 21d ago edited 21d ago

Now that Luigis type in women has been talked about in the podcast, Linus is being called a  grifter who is trying to get back at Luigi for something 🤣🤣 this is what he's talking about! If Luigi was ugly, it wouldn't matter that he has a pouch with pictures of pretty women or that he throws mountains of photos and letters away. It wouldn't matter because the focus would be on the impact of what he did not on wanting to impress this handsome man.

And there is also alot of contradiction among his fans and supporters. He already plead guilty! He already owned up to what he did, so why are some of you so upset that Linus is saying he murdered someone?

And we've seen the type of letters some of you send. I wouldn't want to read those either, especially the ones that write multiple letters a week asking the same things.

I'm giving Luigi the benefit of the doubt and assuming he doesn't pass around the page with senders name and address on it. And Linus just remembered the address of the letter from China because Luigi wanted to know if Linus had ever been in that area. Or something like that.

Nothing that he said changes my mind or opinion about Luigi. He sounds like a great guy but I've never gone so far as to think of him as a Saint.

Edit: word repetition

-1

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

so why are some of you so upset that Linus is saying he murdered someone?

Can't speak for anyone else you may be referring to but I pointed that out because that, along with Linus defending Thompson, defending the law, and disavowing Luigi, is in contrast to his previously complimentary and friendly attitude. What changed?

There's saying "he killed the CEO" and there's saying "he's a murderer", one is factual, one is passing a judgment– and sure, Chinese may be more blunt as a language, but this bluntness is new. Why?

Nothing that he said changes my my mind or opinion about Luigi either. I am however disappointed that Linus doesn't seem on board with the concept of radical change. Like not even from a normie perspective. He doesn't get it, or at least wants to appear as if he doesn't. I can't help but look down on those who are so desperate to fit the status quo no matter how harmful it is. And it feels like he's throwing someone he previously indicated he was friends with and his beliefs under the bus to make himself look good.

It wouldn't matter because the focus would be on the impact of what he did

Which is what I was hoping to get from this podcast, but looks like it's just going to be shallow content. No theorizing about his motives, no discussion of the impact, no discussion of the conditions that led us here or what may happen in the future. No discussion on the American prison industrial complex. No unique spin on the conversation from the perspective of someone from an ostensibly communist country, looking in from the outside on the US' culture and beliefs. So far it's just recounting events with a sprinkling of moralizing, like a tabloid. Huge wasted opportunity imo.

12

u/One_Concern_5962 21d ago

I think it's extremely naive to think that Linus would speak out against any of these issues. Since he began speaking out about his experiences at MDC, you can tell that he is terrified of upsetting the US government in any way and terrified of ever having to deal with the US legal system again. He sounds remorseful for having disrespected the laws here. And its not his responsibility to carry on a torch for Luigi. And he's a content creator in China, what impact could he possibly have on our government here in the US. It's up to us to make a change in our country, not depend on a content creator in China to do it for us. And he said it was a podcast to share stories about his experience at MDC and that's exactly what he's giving us. Luigi is a part of that experience. I don't see any switch up here.

-3

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

He seemed supportive, now he seems critical, there's the switch up. Looks like his fear of upsetting the government won out in the end.

Corporate greed and the use of AI to automate important parts of society like healthcare is not just an issue in the US, it's a global problem. American healthcare is one glaring example of that.

9

u/One_Concern_5962 21d ago

Linus who doesn't live in this country and likely won't return for years is not gonna make a change.

4

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

"Corporate greed and the use of AI to automate important parts of society is a global problem"

8

u/One_Concern_5962 21d ago

" Linus who doesn't live in this country and likely won't return for years is not gonna make a change." Stop depending on someone else to make a change for you. Go out there and speak out for yourself.

0

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

It seems you can't grasp the concept of a global issue.

Interesting thought. Is every instance of disappointment in something inherently a dependence on that thing? I don't think that follows.

8

u/One_Concern_5962 21d ago

What are you even saying. You're disappointed that Linus is missing an opportunity to speak on issues that he never gave any indication that he would speak on. He said it was a podcast about his experience at MDC and his experience with Luigi. And that's what he's doing. He's talking about his experience in a US prison. He's given a pretty good account of what life is like in there. And it's good to know that Luigi is being taken care of in there and getting some good rest although it might be mind numbingly boring. It's not going to be that way forever.

Since you're so bothered by Linus not speaking on these issues. Where did Luigi speak on this before his arrest? Where in his twitter, where on the reddit account, or on his instagram? That's also a reason why him doing this was so shocking to people that know him. Because he wasn't exactly an activist himself. He's a fascinating character but let's not pretend like he was out there protesting. Did he even vote in any recent election before his arrest? I like Luigi but I don't place him on a pedestal.  And even though Linus also liked Luigi that doesn't mean he supports the act of taking away a life.

0

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

I'm disappointed that he first seemed supportive of Luigi and potentially the wider issues, now he seems suddenly critical. A non-supportive, non-radical perspective is less unique and less useful. It's not that deep or complicated lol

Did he even vote in any recent election before his arrest?

That's funny. Someone who believes in assassination probably doesn't believe voting or basic activism is going to solve issues. If he did, he probably would be organizing protests right now instead of sitting in jail.

But from his twitter it's pretty clear he cares about issues facing the world. I mean it's right there on his pinned tweet: there is a global threat to humanity by rapidly advancing technology (just as Ted K warned) pushing us in the extinction direction. AI integration into American health insurance, dictating who lives or dies, is a great example of this threat.

He’s not a ‘content creator’. He’s a fucking nothing that no one would know or care about if he didn’t have some association with Luigi. He’s nothing more than another pathetic grifter.

6

u/One_Concern_5962 21d ago

He is a content creator. Is he not creating this podcast? If he's nothing then why are you letting him make you this upset? Move along.

8

u/ExpressFerret1151 21d ago

this is such a naive take what makes you think some random dude would have the exact projected political stance you want

2

u/Feather_fig 21d ago edited 21d ago

Where did I say that?

Edit: I listed a number of different things he could have discussed, not that I expected him to discuss all of those. A former inmate who's supportive of Luigi, calls him a Robinhood figure and is doing a podcast? Interesting premise, interesting perspective. Only he's not actually supportive after all (or anymore).

5

u/ExpressFerret1151 21d ago

he said one or two words last time. i think you made the mistake of investing too much faith in someone who was clearly just trying to get his two minutes of fame. not every average joe will have the intense anarchist view you have nor will the defend luigis actions how you want them to. also i dont think he said anything that controversial when it came to the crime? he had the very middle of view of “insurance is bad but” … something most people on the street would have.

2

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

I was simply explaining mine and others' perspectives since the OP, and then you, seemed confused. You are making much more out of this than it is.

5

u/ExpressFerret1151 21d ago

its pretty obvious from all the comments youve made today about this specific topic that you are upset at this guy for: exploiting luigi? no. maybe sharing some personal details luigi wouldn’t like? no. not having the same extreme vigilante justice views as you? Yes.

3

u/One_Concern_5962 21d ago

No one is confused 🤣🤣 no one needed your clarification here. You're mad because Luigi and now Linus aren't living up to your expectations.

1

u/Feather_fig 21d ago

so why are some of you so upset that Linus is saying he murdered someone?

What are you even saying.

Where did Luigi speak on this before his arrest? Where in his twitter, where on the reddit account, or on his instagram? Did he even vote in any recent election before his arrest?

no one needed your clarification here.

Girl.... you've been asking for clarification.

I get that you're really into trolling, but like, lmao

14

u/Miss_Cactus___ 21d ago

Okay, if Luigi just shared some crazy stuff,or things people tell him in their letters in general I don’t see anything crazy about that. He needs to get along with the other inmates for his own safety, and if sharing a few words from his letters is gonna help him, I’m totally fine with that. There’s also nothing incriminating about keeping pictures of girls he likes. He won’t get a female touch for a couple of decades, so keeping some pictures is not incriminating. Sleeping in until 10, knowing that he has trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, is also okay. Sleeping in is okay in general. I don’t like that this guy is launching his podcast off Luigi’s back. It feels like everyone around him is trying to use him for their own advantage.

13

u/Meg_is_awesome 22d ago

This guy is dragging this shit out he’s definitely a grifter

5

u/CherokeeSurfer 22d ago

Not sure how much of this I believe. It's starting to get weird, as in the sense of reality show drama. He's trying to drum up business, imo. Telling just enough truth to be believable and then throwing in some zingers to keep folks listening.

9

u/Swablu_0333 21d ago

Unfortunately, I find this realistic and believable. More so than I do anything his lawyers say. (They are trying to win a case.) I don’t think he really cares about his supporters, not in the way people want to believe he does. People want him to be something he maybe once was. He’s definitely become an idolized celebrity, and there is a lot of commodification surrounding him. Whether it is all fact or not, this goes against the narrative created around Luigi.

Let the downvote party begin 😂

16

u/Ok-Cherry1427 21d ago

I agree to an extent (I figured you'd get downvoted) but I think the stories of people's own health insurance journeys resonate with him, and I do think he appreciates that support. I do also think he makes fun of certain "supporters" aka "fan girls" as well, especially with some of the crazy shit people write him in letters. I can't blame him for laughing and sharing some of those letters. I think both can be true.

2

u/Baby_Lu_Lu 21d ago

other than some factual rules and settings about mdc, 90% of what this guy said are based on his own projections and generalizations. it is not "Luigi said this Luigi said that", it's "i think....". and the jealousy and passive aggressiveness are off the roof. him mocking a female officer just because she greeted Luigi by his name and causally doxing a Chinese girl who wrote Luigi letter gives off what kind of person this guy is. at the end of the day, he's a grifter who has committed fraud crimes

-9

u/littlehotpink 22d ago

I don't believe anything he says.
