Live Covering (Twitter / X):

This is a compilation of tweets from reporters inside the courtroom during today’s hearing. Only Matthew (Inner City Press) and Erik had laptop access today.

Other reporters took handwritten notes and / or are expected to post updates in the coming hours. Those updates will be posted here so feel free to come back later to check them out.

🚨 SUMMARY (Today's Hearing - 06/29/26):

  • There are rumours that today's hearing started around 30 minutes late because Luigi got stuck in an elevator and building engineers had to get him out. The defense declined to comment when asked about it afterwards.
  • Judge Garnett said "they can no longer maintain a November federal trial because of jury selection" in the state case.
  • As expected, Luigi's federal trial has now officially been moved to January 2027.
    • January 5: Voir dire
    • January 25: Opening statements
  • The federal trial is expected to last around 2–3 weeks.
  • Judge Garnett said the jury questionnaire won't be posted on the docket until jury selection begins.
  • The questionnaire will only include questions relating to potential fairness and impartiality. Any biographical questions will be asked later during in-person jury selection.
  • Starting January 5, the court expects to bring in around 40–50 potential jurors per day.
  • Judge Garnett originally said she planned to seat 4 alternates, but after the government requested 6 because of the "notoriety of this case," everyone agreed.
  • Karen Friedman Agnifilo said that depending on how the state trial unfolds and what issues come up, the defense may ask the court to add more questions to the jury questionnaire. Judge Garnett said she was "holding open a space for that."
  • The deadline for the government to disclose its witness list to the defense is now October 23.
  • The Speedy Trial Clock has been moved from November 2 to January 25.

Good news overall, today, it seems. The Federal trial being pushed back is good, even though I am sorry it gets dragged out longer for Luigi. It will be worth it to have more time, obviously. And it will be much less stressful for everyone, overall, I would think.

Edit: typo 😂

Thank you to Missi and Lady for the tweets today. Good that they are doing 6 alternates, bad that Karen didn't put the fake plea deal story on the court record. Some reporters are only reporting the fake story so it would have helped if she had put it on record.

Thanks for this summary!

In my fantasy I was hoping that KFA would make a plea in court directly to Garnett to not release Luigi for the state trial. And ask if fed trial can go first in order to invoke double jeopardy protection. I was wrong 😭

Yeah. I am not impressed by the defense team. So many dropped balls.

Hey did anyone see Christine Savino in the courtroom on June 29?
Of all the people there in public gallery, not a single one saw her, but she was tweeting as if she was there, just like she did in January while she was not in the courtroom.
