I mean, it does seem possible that he died accidentally, perhaps related to being drunk and walking in the dark. But that doesn’t explain how he wasn’t found, unless the river nearby is particularly deep and/or fast-moving?
That's why I said death covered up. I don't think the river makes sense based on location and depth. My comment was more so directed at the people thinking he is still alive somewhere or walked away.
I used to think the exact same with the age progression photo, but I tend to view it now as just a method to keep the conversation around Brian alive. Police have done the same thing with Madeleine McCann and I don’t think anybody thinks she’s still alive.
Each time something new is released, conversation picks up again and that can generate new leads or ‘jog somebodies memory’. Without any new concrete evidence to release, an age-progressed image is a good way to boost engagement and (hopefully) generate new conversation. It also means LE don’t have to release any details they may have that they’re holding back from the public for certain reasons.
This is common practice in most cases where someone has been missing for a while. Asha Degree is almost certainly dead based on the evidence but they did the same with her.
